Beta testing of auto-moderation script (in progress)

Please be informed that effective 12th Aug, we will be beta-testing an auto-moderation script (AMS) customized by our in-house techie on TR Emeritus (TRE).

The purpose of this script is to assist the moderators (Mods) in their tedious daily moderation chores by taking some load off, by approving comments (almost instantly) which the script ‘can and is empowered to approve’ without manual intervention from the Mods.

Currently, all comments on TRE have to be approved by an Anti-Spam plugin (Akismet), then manually approved by the Mods, causing unnecessary delays and frustration with comments appearing hours later.

With the implementation of the AMS, all comments cleared by Akismet will instantly be moderated by the AMS, leaving only comments from “special watch” commentators and those it cannot auto-moderate (approve) to the Mods for manual moderation. This should, hopefully clear up the moderation queue and save precious time for our Mods.

However, any comments containing one or more of the following will bypass the AMS and continue to be moderated manually by the Mods.

1. More than one external links.

2. Any words or phrases that are in contravention of our AUP and TOS, namely:

…language that is libelous, defamatory, obscene, abusive, and/or discriminates on the basis of race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual preference, age, region, disability, etc.

3. From commentators that are on our internal “special watch” list.

Since the AMS script is in its infancy stage and undergoing testing, inadvertently some nasty and un-warranted comments may slip thorough moderation.

As such, we urge our learned readers to please report such a comment if necessary.

Thank you for your continued support.

  • More Suggestion for TRE:

Give instant posting for those commenters with good TRACK RECORDS based on 2 criteria: e Mail + Moniker together. So no imitators.

  • @More Suggestion for TRE

Yes, one of the suggestions provided by a lady mod is to bypass moderation for registered readers, who are “safer” because they are verified (having signup using their PayPal) and therefore not likely to try to be funny. Even if they do try to be funny, they are “traceable” by TRE and the authorities.

Another suggestion is as you suggested, create a whitelist of readers who have shown themselves over the years to be reliable and responsible. Like those “vaccinated” versus “unvaccinated”. lol

Good suggestions, have to work out the technicalities though.

DONT UNDERSTAND WHY those comments with more than 1 external links needs to be moderated when the topic is economic/finance which are often complex and tightly interlinked.

The writer may need to use multiple external links to illuminate concepts or or support his/her argued position/point of view.

TRE tech might want to explain this, thanks.

Tech: Although Akismet catches spam, some still do pass through and it has been proven that most Spam normally contains multiple links. So the AMS is set to catch these. At most, comments with multiple links are manually moderated, no harm. We may adjust the threshold when the situation changes. Thank you.

You are lucky people still contribute to TRE. still want to aya papaya, like FB and ST, this cannot that cannot. Actually, the Papigs are now more relax than Tre in moderation. You want to create more problems for yourself, that’s your business.

Tech: The purpose of the implementation is to speed up moderation, nothing to do with this cannot that cannot. If PAP now so open as you claimed, you may also go HWZ or Reach post comments that scold the LEEders, dio bo?

It is okay to contribute in a meaningful way where everyone can discuss maturely with civility. Everyone gain. But to vent anger day in day out AND like TKL talking down to ppl and NO exchanges of views. That’s not contributions. But I doubt TRE will moderate on those TKL’s nonsense contributions.

Regarding the auto approval of posts by regular TRE posters I’m sure that the mods can easily rattle a few names off. it’s a good idea too since these regular posters don’t post nonsense too. Always see a whole load of new usernames on new topics so it seems like some people have got a bit too much time on their hands ha ha.

I seriously hope that the mods of TRE will seriously consider the auto approval thing as well.

Confirm if your ASM will also block
Chinese characters ? Or chinese articles ?

Tech: It blocks any words any language we want it to block, and if it cannot, it will be held for manual moderation.

My comment takes looong time to appear. Must pay one, is it?

Tech: Not every “safe” comments will appear immediately. Currently, only comments from those who are white-listed are eligible to be moderated by the AMS. We do not want to open TRE up too fast, it is a learning process whereby more criteria for AMS moderation will be added as and when we go along.

Then, even if a comment is approved immediately, there is still an issue of the website’s cache that rebuilts the pages every 30 minutes. So it is safe to say from posting to approving, there is a 30-minute delay (maximum). Only registered users will see the changes on the website instantly.

    @ No Use leh

Tre Police, don’t talk to your self – engage your readers. When kena Pofma, means kena. Your Alpha, Beta, Charlie. Delta moderation won’t mean a shit to Ah Loong and his ministers and those PAP cockers down the rank.

Sure you can write factually, responsibly, carefully, respectfully when you kena means you will kena. Tio Bo?

Most readers here by now know how to navigate the invisible red-lines draw by the G.

Better spend resources on lightning up the red blubs in TRE like those fcukshops all over Singapore.

Hahaha. Your cbs star-writers like Simon Lim and Tan Kian Lian are driving away more and more interesting contributers from here. Does nothing but drown in their own vomit, these two ccbs.hahaha

There is no such thing as will kenna means kenna POFMA. PAPies are not stupid and they won’t anyhow fix people one, as long as you don’t give them a damned bloody good reason to fix, dio bo?

Like TOC like dat everyday also cheong head on, its just a matter of time and frankly they kenna is a matter not of if, but when.

As for the script, please be patient, it is still in beta stage and there are plenty of parameters I have yet to set. Give it time to ‘learn’. Thank you.

Nathan Chen refers to contributor/writers. As usual TRE is side-tracking the issues. Please read below by Prof Wei Shin YU in one of your thread.

    Prof Wei Shin YU:

    Dear (Fellow) Singaporeans

As a concerned (ex-) Singaporean, I have been watching/reading on the sideline, the sometimes very destructive fireworks both pro and (mostly) anti Gov and PAP, by patriotic Singaporeans. I see there are many excellent minds writing very well-informed, insightful, scholarly articles. Since we are all concerned about SG, why can’t we unite like the Japanese and harvest these collective energy to participate in nation building, and turn TRE into a serious platform!

Tech: I am confused, what exactly is it that Nathan want TRE to do, kick all the contributors out and keep only those who HE likes?
