Delta coronavirus subvariant AY.4.2 has landed in Singapore

The Delta coronavirus subvariant AY.4.2 has finally ‘landed’ in Singapore, on 8th September to be exact.

Singapore has recorded at least one case of a Delta coronavirus subvariant AY.4.2, believed to be 10% more contagious than the dominant Delta strain currently rampaging through the island city.

In response to media queries by Yahoo News Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed on Thursday (28 October) that one imported case was infected with the subvariant, also known as AY.4.2, but added that there is no evidence of spread to the community.

“While its effects are still being studied, AY.4.2 is currently expected to be similar to other Delta subvariants in terms of transmissibility and severity of illness,” said the MOH in its reply.

The ministry did not elaborate on the case’s current status or when it was detected, but according to data aggregator site outbreak.info, one case with the AY.4.2 subvariant was detected in the island city on 8 September.

The site extrapolates information from the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID), the world’s largest database of novel coronavirus genome sequences.

The AY.4.2  currently makes up 6 per cent of all analysed Covid-19 cases in the United Kingdom (UK) for the week beginning 27 September and is “on an increasing trajectory”.

About 22,000 cases of AY.4.2 have been detected in the UK and some 40 other countries. A number of isolated cases of the subvariant have been detected in Russia, Israel, and the United States.

UK and Russian experts have opined that the AY.4.2 may be some 10 percent more infectious than the original Delta variant, the main driver behind Covid-19 surges across the world, and could ultimately replace it. The subvariant has two mutations in its spike protein, which helps the coronavirus to invade the body’s cells.

Since Singapore has a policy of “living with the virus”, maybe the AY.4.2 variant will be welcome into the community soon, in time to celebrate Chirstmas with the Delta variant – one big happy coronavirus family reunion?

  • Chey, the AY.4.2 is actually also known as the Delta Plus, which is believed to be faster and much more deadlier than the Delta.

But not to worry, those clowns at MTF have it all under control. At the most expect 10,000 infections per day and more death nia, they would say.

Really bo bian cannot beat them, then run lor, do like what Ong Ye Kong said. lol

I expected this would happen. Was this “imported” case quarantined on arrival? Read that VTL arrivals no need for quarantine. If so, I think the variant has, most likely, spread to others in non-mask setting. What if the delegates at the upcoming conference bring in this new variant with them and spread it around the dining table? If they sit in groups of five with different delegates each day, they will spread the variant around the world! LOL!

Correct – and you can bring your family too (if they are vaxxed).

From the GISAID info, SINKaPOOR had its 1st case of the AY4.2 Delta variant on 8 September 2021.

YET MOH did not report this until a couple of days ago. So much for being economical with the truth/fact.

The question is WHY MOH did NOT report this much earlier?

I'd just clarify that MOH did not report this in the LOCAL media and or on MOH's website (as far as I know) until lately. WHY?

So since Delta Plus is already here then it won’t be too long before it starts spreading in tandem with Delta. Those who have had their booster shots better pray that this version of the virus isn’t as lethal as Delta hor.

Lambda and Mu are VOCs if I remember correctly but this current wave we are experiencing would easily stretch into next year at the current pace it’s going.

And since it’s the weekend today I assume the cases will be between 3500 and 4500 to be reported on Saturday and Sunday.

The variants (Lambda and Mu) you mentioned are present in Malaysia. So when Sinkieland opens its legs big big to Malaysia, rest assured they will join the Delta and Delta+ for Christmas, munching on daft Sinkies instead of Turkey. lol

I’m waiting for it to be on the island bro. You know who let in Delta so it’s expected they let in L and M too, it’s just a matter of time.

One after another the variants will be brought in from other countries until the island becomes a pot of Covid Alphabet Soup. LOL! The VTL may not be such a good idea for a small densely populated island, especially when the vaccine has shown not to protect against new variants. The question is how many of the recent cases are Delta Plus variant? So far only one case has been reported.

Too late for Spore to avoid a possible disaster..

    - Spike proteins are now in 4.5 million people here and will not be removed by the body

    - SALK Institute, a renown US institute, says spike proteins itself can generate Covid without the rest of the virus body. So, are Singaporeans now creating their own Covid?

    - Microscopic blood clots and bleeding are now in millions of bodies (as per Prof Sucharit Bhakdi)

    - Dr. Sherri Tenpenny supports the prediction by Dr Judy Mikovits that 50 million Americans will die from vaccine effects. That means 25% of vaccinated Americans. Translate to Spore, that means at least 1 million here may die. Who will man the SAF, Police, MOH, Schools, Services, etc.?

    - The unvaxxed will be the survivors as our innate immune system (in our nasal passages) recognizes all variants as we recognize the entire virus and not just the mutating spike protein which is just one part of the virus.

    - The vaxxed will be spreading the disease among themselves now that they are dining together and entering the aircon malls without good ventilation.

    - Impossible to achieve herd immunity via breakthrough infections. Even at an average of 5,000 cases a day, it will take 3 years…too late by then
