PAP 1st Anniversary Celebration: ‘PAP stands for freedom and democracy’?

My Professor friend from RI joked that my birthday (23 Nov 1953) was very close to the PAP’s birthday (21 Nov 1954).

He sent me this photo of the PAP’s 1st Anniversary Celebration, and laughed at the words in the background which states that “PAP stands for freedom and democracy” and joked “Sure boh?”

Comment:

In this connection, I wonder how some of the PAP’s practices will be accepted in other democratic societies?

For example, all upgrading projects proposed by the Town Council had to go through the Citizens Consultative Committee (CCC), which controls the Community Improvement Projects Committee (CIPC) funds.

Arguably, does this mean that an elected opposition MP may have to seek permission from an unelected ‘grassroots leader’ for upgrading work in his own constituency?

Does this sound “democratic” to you?

Also, there seems to be little transparency as to how the electoral boundaries are drawn before the elections.

For example, isn’t it strange to you that Joo Chiat SMC was dissolved in GE2015 after the govt won by a razor thin margin? Isn’t it strange to you that Moulmein-Kallang GRC was dissolved – why? Was one of the ministerial candidates in the helm, arguably, not very popular?

My friend who stays in Hougang complained that his constituency has changed 3 times even though he has not physically moved!

Also, candidates have complained that it is impossible for them to do their walkabouts given last minute boundary changes. Again, how “democratic” is this?

Other interesting “freedom” areas include media freedom that is ranked 160th in the world (Press Freedom Index) and the newly passed FICA law which has been criticised as possibly allowing the minister to detain anyone based on a mere suspicion of foreign interference.

In this regard, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and nine others organizations have called on the Government of Singapore to withdraw FICA.

Singapore was ranked 173rd in the Electoral Freedom index (Freedom House), and 75th in the 2019 Global Democracy Index (Economist Intelligence Unit).

To what extent can the PAP claim (as it did in 1955) that they stand for “freedom and democracy”?

LKY had revised it to “democracy that works”. Now, defenders of democracy have always conceded that democracy can be cumbersome, but defended that the price is tolerated for freedom’s sake. In other words, it should be “democracy still, even when it doesn’t work”. “Democracy that works” counters this. So is it still a democracy?

PAP stands for all the entitlements and privileges down the line from top to bottom of the Tribe. The Papigs fear words like freedom and democracy. These two big words are a big and real threat to the strangle-hold they have on the people. Making the Constitution ‘live’ is one thing to adapt to the changing world in the local context. Amending, adding and deleting in parts and in whole, articles of the Constitution at will is the act of a rogue government, which all world Constitutions are written to protect the people from. The rule of the law is the biggest joke in this country. This joke gets funnier when the Papigs replace the rule of the law with the rule based law.

Don’t worry about boundary changes lah, WP won 2 GRCs even when PAP tried their darndest to change boundaries. At the end of the day if people want to vote for you they will vote for you one lah, no need any boundary changes unless you are kiasee which PAP most definitely are.

So just keep changing the boundaries lor, more are voting against them anyway. Just look at last year’s result, their vote share fell islandwide simply because they couldn’t convince voters to vote for them. It’s just that simple loh!

Looking forward to fewer PAP turkeys in parliament!

The Dead Despot was always a Communist. He only wanted the appearance of democracy to further and cement his one party CCP-like rule, except for him the CCP was too soft as it cared for the people.

  • PAP worse than CCP:

CCP voting on laws is secret. The records show that there have been dissenting votes, and even cases where new laws get thrown out.

PAP Parliament vote is open, as in UK Parliament. Unlike UK Parliament, the PAP party boss can kick out his party MP any time he likes. This means PAP members are at the mercy of the PAP boss. This is worse than UK and worse than CCP.

  • Neither democracy nor free lah:

    https://blog.seedly.sg/singapore-rich-wealthy-singaporeans/

According to the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report 2021, published in June 2021, Singapore is the tenth richest country in the world, with an AVERAGE WEALTH per adult of S$455,930 (US$333,112) as of end-2020…

According to Credit Suisse, this is relevant as the top 1% of the wealthiest people in Singapore own about 33.9% of the wealth at the end of 2020.

However, the MEDIAN WEALTH per adult of S$118,754 (US$86,764) puts Singapore as the twentieth richest country in the world.

In an absolute sense, people in Singapore are richer than the majority of the other countries in the world, Credit Suisse says.

But Singaporeans are also a people with the lowest purchasing power among developed countries is it not? Why? …. We live under the skewed Papeconomics of a top-heavy crony-capitalist regime which has created the most expensive city in the world to live in… the educated young can’t get started and many of the old can’t stop laboring. You don’t have freedom if you can’t afford public housing. You don’t have freedom if you cant stop working from worrying about medical bills. Last year 2020, 452 Singaporeans committed suicide (2019 was 400). How come there’s no national inquiry into this high mortality figure for an island city?

I must say i used to be proud to have a PAP GOVT that cared for the PEOple.
Then,i was a truly proud Sgporean.
Everytime i travelled, foreigners spoke well and admired Sg and were courteous towards us.
These days, the migrant white-collared FTs scorn at sgs n even flying kicked our police on patrol duties.
This can be mainly accredited to the way the current gahmen treat our own citizens calling us names like xenophobics, ungracious ,NO TALENT,etc.

The current bunch of PAPple does not deserve the support of SG PEOple.
    Still,many among us are forgiving.

THE NATION IS DIVIDED BECOS THE GAHMEN CONSTANTLY PLAY DIVISIVE POLITICS FOR THEIR OWN GAINS.
EVEN CAN SAY THE POOR SGS ARE TOI GREEDY TO BE GIVEN HELP OR HELPING THEM WILL BURDEN OUR YOUNG BUT CAN SIMPLY RAID OUR RESERVES OF $100 BILLION to grant furlough to foreigners n well-paid sgs calling it SOLIDARITY-CUM-RESILIENCE BUDGET when SGS WHO ARE BADLY IN NEED OF MORE RESILIENCE were given $600 out of a claimed $23.6 K grant per capita?
No PAP MPs who claimed linkage with the poor during General Elections came out to speak???

    HOW TO TRUST THEM?
    ALL EMPTY N POMPOUS PROMISES!

BUT WP MPs are just as quiet.
Why bother to pay these MPs such high wages for sloppy work?

Our great PAP government is right to call Singaporeans xenophobics, ungracious ,NO TALENT,etc because it is true that:

    1. Singaporeans are xenophobics – this is true as Singaporeans have no substance and are fearful of competing with FT who general have more substance than them. And most of the people who against FT are lau tik ko old ugly, balded uncle like this guy.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6e0Q-HBqf0

And how many lau tik ko will take train to Laos to screw around ?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6TJGaHZ0Ao

    2. Singaporeans are ungracious – this is true as Singaporeans young and old are spoilt brats and are very rude people, especially old man who always dirty the surrounding gambling and drinking.

    3. Singaporeans have no talent – this is true as Singaporeans at large cheated to pass exam using 10 years series.
