Weakness of democratic systems
Democratic systems often produce bad outcomes. It is difficult to get the majority of people to agree on the rules that govern their society.
If we examine the governance of America, which promotes that their system of democracy to other countries, we can see that they could not agree on the following issues:
- gun control
- abortion
- drugs
What is the alternative approach?
We can look at the major religions of the world – Islam and Christianity. Their derive their authority from the word of Allah or God. Their authority is not derived through a “democratic process”.
All the believers of the religion accept the word of the divine authority. They do not debate or argue over the matter.
In the course of history, certain groups have broken away from the main body to form their own church or sects. Even so, these new groups accept the authority of their leaders. They do not continue to argue over the issues.
Maybe, the governance of a country should be authoritarian.

Prior to being convicted for his well-know CROSS-UNDER THE TABLE SAGA, Religious LEEder Con Hee of CHC(Con Hee Church), together with his Wifey Some Hole, had about 30,000 STAUNCH WORSHEEPERS under their belts! Most if not all of them would LISTEN to their Holee SERMON especially by Con Hee without any QUESTION being ASKED!
However, during and towards the verdict of his saga, about 13,000 WORSHEEPERS did the NEEDFUL: show him the Middle Finger and PROCEED TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE AGAIN! Some may have finally WOKEN UP while some may have TROOPED over to another church by the Holee Name of NCC(New Con Church)! HEAVEN HAS EYES. MAN PROPOSES GOD DISPOSES!

TKL is PAPPY supporter, he was ruling NTUC income with iron fist until he was stopped, he was forced to step down. Unhappy with that decision, he decided to jump into EP in which he lost his deposit. Then he started to write critical pieces of PAPPY policies.
But as you can see, now he no longer criticises PAP, he has reverted to his old self, embracing authoritarism. Perhaps his kids are working for PAPPY or PAPPY has direct influence on their future. For many ex Ministers or civil servants who opposed PAPPY in the past, their children were all grouped and allocated key posts to neutralise their stand. Remember JBJ son was leading the Aljunied TC COP against his dad’s own party.
TKL is a double headed snake, a CCP lover, he speaks so much about autocracy and love of China but he is still in Singapore?
He is still a PAPPY lover afterall.

//In the course of history, certain groups have broken away from the main body to form their own church or sects.//
aiyoh ?? broken away to be “free from the control” of the main body right ?? these breakaway groups would like to have their “own” game plans & rules and own “leaders” right ??? orelse why break away in the first place ??
it does not matter whether it is a democracy or authoritarian as long as the leaders are benevolent and above board (not wayang wayang ??) – though democracy by design is supposedly better than authoritarian ??
there is “better” value in authoritarian rule (or psuedo democracy and hopefully a benevolent one ??) when the country is chaotic with many diverse interests & unstable conflicts among different groups of people AND a strongman is needed to unite the whole nation ???
BUT once a country gets developed, civilized and stable, than it must slowly move to democracy as the next stage of development requires a more consensus and equitable consideration of ideas from different interests and strata of society ???

And so, Plato said the “philosopher king” should rule, so also, traditional China says “Wang” rule, as distinguished from “Ba”. But, how to ensure “Wang” rule, that “Heaven’s mandate to rule” prevails? For we are told “the mandate of Heaven is not unchanging”, and that “when Heaven withdraws its mandate to rule from the powers-that-be, the people should revolt”. How does Heaven’s mandate to rule go by? “Heaven wills by the will of the people”. How to translate that into practice? Political education points to Democracy as the best so far.

It is sad in 2022 humans still believe they can be GOOD.
Over 3,000 years ago, it is already said, אין עשה־טוב
All humans, more or less, are the same, when it comes to S$m per annum. Some are corrupt, some are more corrupt, the pap types are the most corrupt.
To expect any human to do Good other than to oneself is to expect pap folks to give up their thieving S$m per annum ways.
It ain’t going to happen.
Therefore,
Whether it is the China system or the American system, as long as they are NOT the pap system, they are better off.
In other words,
The pap system is the worst, because it pretends to be what it is NOT, which is honesty. pap folks are all hypocrites and the pap system is the most hypocritic system in the world.
As we have been told 2,000 years ago, such is a den of thieves, whitewashed sepulchers, whose mouths are stained with viper poison and whose tongues speak guile.
For sure there is no perfect system in the world.
But we say the China system or the American system is far better than the pap system. Because the China system and the American system do not pretend to be anything but as they are whereas the pap system pretends to be what it is NOT.

Democracy allows free flow of ideas! Whereas non-democracy allows ideas only from a few selected ones!
Ideas make a country progresses. Idea makes changes and change is the only constant!
There are good ideas and there are not so good ideas, it is only up to a good leader to decide which is which. His choice will reflect on the type of leader he is!
Example; Some says GST is good, some says GST is bad. It just depends on if you benefit from it and at the right time!
When ideas only from a few selected ones, then these ideas are only meant for the satisfaction to the person who selected them. This is typical from the PAP. Like in SG PAP’s Budget. There is post-budget dialogue why NO pre-budget dialogs? This is like after the foods is prepared then ask for recipe!

Lol. First of all, except for the last 50-60 years after WW2, we have had mostly authoritarian governments or Kings or Emperors and such shitty political shenanigans.
Have the masses of ordinary people , including China, benefited in a Western global system that is “democratic”? If not, please show the facts (not opinions) of when the masses of ordinary people had a better life in an authoritarian era?
Todays fight is not democracy, but that the Western nations are turning more authoritarian. In fact, they are becoming more liked China. Authoritarian nations take ordinary people to conflicts on premises of false national identity, racial prowess etc.
Secondly, TKL in his speech during his embarrassing presidential election, and I quote:
“…..As you know, I have never contested in any general election as a candidate of a political party, I am neutral and non-partisan. I will be able to independently in carrying out the duties of the president, particularly in the exercising of the duties under the constitution to prevent abuse of power and corruption….”
So, TKL believed that being independent of political incumbents gave him “independence” of action; to challenge the authority. So, wtf is he espousing now.
Intellectually defunct, and morally, TKL is nothing but just an opportunist.

In short – it is dysfunctional and therefore dangerous.

Isn’t he half Thai, half British? There is more to being a “local” talent. A “local” should have one or both parents who have a lineage in the country going back two or three generations – the Pioneer Generation or earlier. Many foreigners take up residency in SG and give birth to children who enjoy the privileges of multiple citizenshdips. That does not make them “locals” in the same manner as children born to parents who have roots in the nation’s history and culture. Generally speaking, children born to foreign parents should not be considered “locals” simply because they hold minor citizenships and/or attend local schools. At the end of the day Ben dons the Thai colors on the soccer field, and his country allows him to excel and do what he enjoys most (I think) – play soccer – without any encumbraces. He could have completed his NS and then give up his SG citizenship and not be a fugitive of the law. Now he cannot compete in SG.

Autocracy is a bigger problem than Democracy. Just take China for example, normal Chinese people like me is proud that China is now powerful, rich and modern. But Xi as an authoritarian is not satisfied with being that, he is hungry for power and recognition, that I can still accept.
But when he starts
1. Publishing anti US and West fake news (we can still accept if they are true)
2. Issuing threats to neighbours
3. Trying to colonise and build naval base and trigger alram
We want a peaceful and prosperous China that are a role model for other nations to follow. Not a big bully and going around spreading lies and intimidating others.
Autocracy is a dangerous tool, we can see that in dictators like Kim, Putin, Xi and perhaps Pinky.

Well tats not true right as China has illustrated in recent winter olympics or her soccer team A.
loading...
Difficult to base on lineage of 2-3 generations since we at best only got 2-3 generations of tru-blues back to 1965. Like that, then only probably 25-30% of today’s 5.6m population would qualify. The problem we have such “identity” issue is because the PAP, especially the 3G team, brought in too many foreigners too fast and giving out citizenships like toilet paper. So, a good yardstick for being “local” would be anyone who show COMMITMENT to contribute to our society, besides paying taxes. And IMO doing NS (or some form for national contribution, beside one’s daily occupation) is one way to demonstrate such commitment. Otherwise, all who talk about integration but have shown ZERO commitment are basically CCB pappies’ Free Riders.

On being “locals”, I noticed that 2018 HDB flats are starting to show up as resales on HDB own website. In some estates, these can make up to 15-20% of the monthly resales. Question = why with a MOP of 5 years, there can be 2018 HDB flats on sale NOW in 2022? Some say these are hardship cases – but 15-20%??? Or are these foreigner buyers swearing to remain in SG, only to sell fast and jump country when the opportunity present itself to them?
Also, typically newer flats are transacted at higher prices. Is this how the garmen can claim HDB “valuations” have increased? By including flats before MOP which are offloaded by foreign buyers?

Not sure what you mean. Perhaps, you can elaborate. But what has China got to do with how we define “locals” in the SG context? Didn’t follow the Winter Olympics. Not really interested in winter sports with artificial snow, and also after Xi hosted Putin at the Opening Ceremony on the eve of his planned invasion of Ukraine which brought so much atrocities, pain and misery on innocent men, women and children, including Russian parents who lost their sons in a war of agression.
loading...
Where did you get your figures from? Surprised to learn that there are only so few “locals” who can trace their lineage back to the Pioneer Generation. So where did the rest of the younger population come from – imported from Malaysia? They all look very “local” and it’s hard to tell the difference. How many millions of them? I wonder if your definition might be too broad. Doing community services, philantropy and all those other things do not make one a “local” if there is no lineage to the past, at least going back to the Merdeka Generation. Otherwise, any rich foreign import with plenty of money to contribute to charity can be considered a “local” overnight. Does joining the RCs also count? LOL!
loading...
From your perspective, what percentage of the current population do you think can be considered “local”? We already have about 40-42% foreigners, workpass holders, transient workers, FDWs, etc… i.e. NON-local born persons. Then you take all the foreigners converted to New Citizens over past say 15-20 years, factoring in the deaths of the elders (likely pioneer/merdeka gen. hence “locals”) and what do you think you will get? 50%? 60%? 70%? 80%? Or like what I mentioned, about 30%?
Joining RC to be considered “local” is just what the pap wants – to dilute the tru-Singaporeans. These contribute to what? Carrying the MPs’ balls? When war occurs, these will likely be the first to leave. Is that considered Commitment to be Singaporean?
Just look at our previous table-tennis queen. Converted to SG, represented us in many world championships, win some medals for us …. yet still doesn’t talk like local and where is she now? Back in China. Achievements or tons of money doesn’t mean Commitment, hor.

Tan you are right, to a certain extend. Though the governent of the day ought to be feared, by ordaination, authority created and were given from”above” to man, there are certain conditions which are required to take place for the very purpose the seat of power(for the anointed/appointed) was created for.
Romans 13:1-7 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher powers: for there is no power but of God; and the powers that be are ordained of God. Therefore he that resisteth the power, withstandeth the ordinance of God: and they that withstand shall receive to themselves judgment. For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. And wouldest thou have no fear of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from the same: for he is a minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. For for this cause ye pay tribute also; for they are ministers of God’s service, attending continually upon this very thing. Render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
When LKY said he rather be FEARED than loved, he was right, to a certain extend. If you look at the CCP government, it is the same isn’t it?
But what the world, because of ignorance, pride and foolishness, didn’t know, as well as religion or Christianity, is that the process, and qualification by which “the man”(the Head or government) assume the role which expresses higher sovereignty(you call it the sovereignty/will of the nation) is on going and relentless.
If nations bear not the required fruits, the inevitable follows. What you see before your eyes around you in the world, as well as in your nation, are the fruits of…..”unrest”(no peace).
You look towards religion you will be as lost as the rest of the world. In fact, was CCP right to go after them while your government put a “gag order” to “protect or cover up for them”?
Becareful of what you sow because it can grow up to be a….b****!
