Is the Nominated MP scheme losing its relevance?

I refer to the ST’s Opinion “Is the Nominated MP scheme losing its relevance“ (ST, Oct 14)

In September 1990, the NMPs scheme was introduced and effected for the core purpose of bringing in constructive, non-partisan and independent voices into Parliament.

Good thing about this scheme is, all Nominated Members of Parliament can think out of the box, voice out their views, opinions, suggestions and vote on all the Government’s motions and proposed bills without any political baggage, except those concerning amendments to the Constitution and public funds as well as motions of no confidence in the government.

Whether this NMP scheme losing its relevance and impact or not, I think, different people hold different views.

It’s greatly hinged on whether the ruling party is willing to listen and accept their earnest, rational suggestions if (they are) found workable and good for the people.

Another aspect which in large extent determining its successfulness is, respective NMP must be bold but cautious to present, address the worries of the people and advance their interests in the parliament. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose and becoming a laughing stock.

Lets just say lets make our Election Process more progressive so as to allow for truer DIVERSITY OF OPINIONS /IDEAS that NMP scheme is ineffectively trying to attain.
Abolish GRC,we will have DIVERSITY than mere GROUP-THINKING that are so *MOLDED* and may impede GOOD/better IDEAS that could be for the betterment of sgs.

Pappy used this scheme to tell voters that even losers can be in parliament, no need to vote them.

But oppositions have used this as stepping stone to show public their prowess. Many ex NMPs from oppositions performed well and got elected in future elections.

Because of Leong Wai Mum constant difficult topics and debates for these inferior ministers to manage, suspect they maybe going to scrap and started to brainwash public so that they can scrap.

The NMP scheme was brainchild of PAPPy to tell the public no need to vote oppositions, still got voice. But most NMP are just dogs of the regime, they either sleep or talk about topics that are not critical to Singapore or Singaporeans.

NCMP scheme is more successfully in promoting good quality candidates who went on to be real MPs.

LMW performance so far is the best, they are attacking him constantly for his difficult topics and questions.

We learn a lot from NMP.
If you have $1 million in your bank account, I can give you $1 in that account, and I can decide how the $1,000,001 is to be used.

Only a few voices in Parliament disagreed with this.

Most of the white MPs either sleep or MIA from parliament debates. If they are in parliament, it is to vote against oppositions or pass their own laws. When they speak, they speak about bubble tea or their son birthday, clowning in parliament. They are paid either millions as ministers or $192,000 as clowns or $600,000 as major clowns.

Conclusion: These white MPs who represent voters did not engage in promoting policies that improve Singapore or Singaporeans life, they only serve to maximise their party policies to milk Singaporean bank accounts and deplete our rights.

Leong wai mum may not speak eloquently like Jamus Lim or Pritnam Singh, he has guts and grit and more courage in fighting for Singapore and Singaporeans. He has fought many critical topics that impact Singapore and our lives. For this, we conclude he is currently most effective in checking and balancing than most WP MPs who tried to skirt around sensitive topics to avoid incurring wrath of a very petty party which would resort to character assassination, insults and name callings through their local mouth piece “MSM”.

We should send him and his team into parliament to whip these white party parasites who often sleep and MIA in parliament.

    Correctly said.
Many PAP MPs absent themselves from parliamentary debates and those present seen dozing or yawning away.
    Thats not right,am i right?
Worst of all,the absent PAP MPs PRESENT THEMSELVES JUST TO RAISE THEIR HANDS TO SAY *AYE* WHEN A BILL IS BEING PASSED NOT KNOWING HEAD OR TAIL OF WHAT HAS EARLIER GONE ON NOR *CARE* ABOUT ITS IMPACT ON THEIR CONSTITUENTS AND sgs at large.

    THIS IS UNETHICAL.

  • NotMyProblem:

Not only NMP is irrelevant but also GRC too!

GRC was meant to ensure minority races enter parliament, but now only Chinese used this to enter parliament whereas an Indian was elected into parliament all by himself.

    So you still believe PAP?
