When I was young, I always hear about retribution and karma. I went to work and found many axxes doing bs but they seem to be doing well and happy by harming others. I personally was victim of several of such, I wondered if retribution is real. I observe most of these people who do BS are mostly non religious or Christians.

As I grow older, I always look for evidence of karma and retribution samples to verify if there is this universal law. I did come across a number of samples that karma is real, you reap what you sow. Yes a lot of them may enjoy power and riches till late but in the end, they did not come to a great end. And family breaking up etc is just one sample.

They may think they can rule forever, those in power keep doing bs and bully everyone else. Judgement and karma will be served, no one can live forever.

Not sure how the judges are selected and/or appointed in SG. But in Israel right now, the people are protesting in the streets of Tel Aviv to preserve the independence of the country’s judiciary. This is the new normal in Singapore and will likely stay as we have seen rise in property taxes. This is a new normal not just in Singapore but in all major so-called first world cities in the world. It has to be felt more acutely in Singapore because it is not an atypical city. It is very very small; in fact, invisible on the world map, so limited land space invariably leads to sharp increases as there is a sharper competition of land since Singapore does not have a hinterland like other cities such as New York or Tokyo.

In the past, HDB flat was $30 000-$60 000. That was the old normal. Today, $500 000 for a HDB is the new normal; in fact, it has been in the 6 digit figures since the 2000s. We are now in 2023 moving to 2024. So rental HDB flats are no longer below $2500 as the new normal baseline. In the case of rental units of entire condos, the new normal is no longer less than $5000. These are the lowest common denominator minimum rental price. GST goes up, property tax goes up, and if item is near a train station, even more so. With limited land, it is the case. Singapore has zero natural disaster, so changes are felt swiftly. Firms and foreigners continue to rent and come because the Sing dollar is strong and corporate taxes are very low. And many expats are happy relocating to HDBs to rent because SG is unique unlike other cities. It is small. Moving from Woodlands to the city centre is what most foreigners and expats take to travel from their own countries back home to work. Travelling 1 hour to 80 minutes to work by train or driving for 50 minutes to work is normal in these larger countries and cities outside Singapore. What is not normal is doing so using cheap Grab, Gojek or MRT train fares for lesser the journey than back home is a plus. Taxis in other cities are crazy expensive and frankly unaffordable than in Singapore city although it has to be said that taxi fares are becoming too expensive for local Singaporeans these days.
