Simba made it difficult to cancel a line
1. I made a post in Facebook that Simba had a bad practice in making it difficult for a customer to cancel a mobile line. They do not provide the “Cancel Line” function in their app or in their website, and also did not allow me to stop the monthly payment from my Simba wallet.
2. I had to make a Google search and found a 2 page physical form that I had to complete and submit it by email or visit to their office. As I do not have a scanner, it was difficult for me to submit the form (which I had to print out on paper and complete it).
3. I posted my experience, and state that it is a bad business practice for Simba to give this kind of trouble to a customer who needs to cancel a line.
4. I received several comments from other customers who agreed that the business practice was bad, and they encountered the same problem.
5. I received the following comments that disagreed with my post:
a) One said that they found the Simba line to be good
b) Another said that the price of the Simba line is attractive.
c) Another said that it was not difficult to complete the process to cancel the line and showed how it could be done.
d) Another said that Simba allowed a customer to cancel the line by sending an email to state the phone number and he had done it.
e) Another said that Mr. Tan frequently complained. (This person was banned for making this rude statement and personal smear).
6. I found the comments under para 5 to be irrelevant to my post. While they may like the Simba line, they should also be aware that some customers, like me, do not need the line and wish to cancel it. It is a bad practice, and is unacceptable, for Simba to make it troublesome for the customer to go through the painful process. Simba could have provided a function in their app or website for the customer to make this request.
7. In a reply from Simba, they said that the balance in my Simba wallet will not be refunded. I consider it it to be confiscation of my money and will take Simba to court on this matter (even if they have stated this in their terms and conditions).
8. I have found the price of the Simba line to be quite attractive ($5 for a senior plan) and the service to be acceptable. That is beside the point. It is not acceptable for Simba to make it difficult for a customer to cancel a line.
9. Some people commented that other mobile operators also made it difficult for their customers to cancel a line. That is also irrelevant. This bad business practice should be stopped.
10. I intend to make a complaint with the relevant authority (which I presume is IMDA). They cannot allowed their licensed operators to impose unacceptable business practices.

Err… I assume the form that needed signing and can be downloaded is in PDF format from Simba’s official website?
There are so many freeware on the internet that can edit and digitally sign a PDF form and then ‘seal’ it (no longer editable) and then send via email.
There is absolutely no need for Mr Tan to download it, print and sign and scan and send.
Mr Tan can try Acrobat Reader.

SIMBA is the cheapest of all, it is not a full service but rely on minimum staff, resources and mostly via APP or email. No one can just call and cancel like SingTel M1 StarHub.
For Singtel M1 StarHub, if you try calling, you go through many steps and wait for more than 30 mins or 1 hour to get a staff because they also want to put minimum resource and point you to use blog chat.
I think you cant have best of everything. If you want to complain against Telco, just go IDA and lodge your complaint, as long as u are valid, they will take action and the process will be improved.
For lawyer over few bucks, if u are rich… no issue, end up paying lawyer and courts fee.

If Simba has provided a mean for you to cancel the line, then there is nothing you can complain about it. If you find it too troublesome to submit the form , that is beside the point and of course, irrelevant.
To cancel a line is not going to be a simple click button process. It should be properly documented so that there will not be any conflict if there is a misuse of the line. All of these will be audited by the relevant authorities.
Does TKL even understand such simple thing?

Caveat Emptor.
You went into this not making sure you could cancel the line or understand the problems you would face. That is on you. No one put a gun to your head. Do your homework. You can always make sure your service providers never have a way to take your money if you don’t want their services.
Or are you here again just to complain about things that you can fix?

Most companies will make it very difficult to cancel automatic renewal subscription.
Will charge you first even if you do not want their service and have to ask for refund.
Make the refund procedure very hard but sign on subscription easy….

In this aspect, China has more regulations and has mandated that ALL apks that require subscription MUST ALLOW simple cancellation and made it EXPLICITLY known to the subscribers HOW TO CANCEL and whether it is recurring.
Failure to comply will result in the service being investigated and can be terminated or fined if found ‘guilty’.
Maybe Sinkieland might want to consider implementing such a policy.

The caPIGtalists will make it 100% pro-business and allow them to exploit consumers to the fullest. Once consumers are hooked, as a fish gets hooked, they have to thrash and jump and still cannot get out of the hook. Even if they manage to break free, they will have suffered, as shown by TKL. However, some lucky fish will come along and say, no lah, so easy.

The PAP is pro business entities so there are no infrastructures in place to protect consumers like Mr.Tan. He will have to spend time cancelling his account which should be done within a couple of minutes in a Smart City.

China is more people than Singapore, thats correct but things are changing… My Chinese friends are complaining that PRC govt is revamping their policies to make more money. They have started to do that to national healthcare policies to remove a lot of basic to make citizens pay. They complain perhaps the 3 years of lock down have burnt a big hole and the central govt is trying to recoup losses.
Democracy? They decide for all citizens, citizens have to accept whatever. To criticise is to leave a guessing game where you might be arrested or called for interview.
Recently Uncle Roger cracked a joke on China and Taiwan during his standup, he was immediately removed and banned by China. This is how petty and small minded China can get.
