Will the next General Election see the wind of change?

Strong wind of political change in Singapore is clearly visible since a few years ago, but more eminent in 2019 as elections draw nearer. Here are some factors which I believe will lead to  citizens seething anger unleashed during the general election:

1) The announcement of PAP’s new 4G leaders was a gross disappointment for the average voter – their inexperience, image as a bunch of “yes men”, questionable competency, perceived lack of passion for public service.

2) The increasing CPF minimum sum and the inability of needy people to withdraw their own monies has sparked anger in many Singaporeans. The root cause of low interest rates has yet to be addressed, while many intelligent and viable mechanisms to mitigate retirement has been ignored by PAP government.

3) The HDB “asset enhancement policy” has failed as their ministers admitted that the homes have no significant value once the 99-year lease expires – this has backfired PAP’s credibility. Furthermore, paying interest to fund property from your own CPF monies is a ridiculous exploitation of one’s personal capital formation.

4) PAP promised not to increase GST in GE2015 but had now reversed its stance. People are in a state of shock from the rapid fire of increases of the cost of living from utilities, transport, medical care, toll, and an assortment of indirect taxes. The GST increases will see families earning less than $2,500 each month seriously struggle.

5) The explosive influx of foreign job seekers due to the faulty CECA with India to boost GDP showcases the government’s clueless economic policies for productivity gain. In places like Dubai, this is acceptable but just look at the high number of unemployment for locals while many are turning to low level jobs to survive.

6) The less traumatic upheavals to Singaporean was the PAP’s “Monaco policies” of encouraging super rich to reside in Singapore, supposedly help develop Singapore economy. The current doldrums of highly expensive housing showcases PAP government lack of foresight and inability to build a viable Singapore economy.

In summary, the elitist government seemingly doesn’t care for citizenry. The upcoming General Election will witness a massive swing of votes to opposition due to the PAP government’s serial incompetence and aristocratic arrogance.  My assessment is that the opposition is likely to win 58% of the popular votes.

Wow, very bold predictions. So sorry, but I have to prick your bubble:

    1. Any team of cabinet ministers, when they work together, generate synergies that would produce results better than any minister individually evaluated. The track record of our cabinet ministers has not failed the people.

    2. Sensible people have long recognised the CPF Minimum Sum has to be increased to take into account longer life expectancy and higher healthcare costs. Harping on the CPF issue is like flogging a dead horse.

    3. Most citizens see HDB as a roof over their heads, not a speculation tool. At the end of their lives, the remaining tenure can still be handed over to their children. Nothing is lost here.

    4. The government has been very upfront of the need to increase GST and subsidies have been increased to help the poor. While the middle class may be affected by the higher cost of living, wage increases have helped mitigate some of the pain.

    5. With the exception of a few industries, the vast majority of white-collar workers are still Singaporeans. People have recognised the need for the foreign workers to contribute diverse knowledge, expertise, and viewpoints to advance our economy.

    6. Every country in the world is trying to attract the rich. If we don’t, we will lose out. Furthermore, the rich help our economy through their investments in the property market, and their spending in other areas from retail to telecoms to banking which eventually create more jobs.

Once again, sorry to say to the writer that all his points have no basis at all.

  • IMHO, civil servants are the ones that comprises most of the 70% so-called dafts who voted for the PAP.

They have this mentality that the civil service exists because of the PAP and the PAP is their boss, so die die must vote PAP or else they would be jobless.

They don’t realise that Singapore actually have a very healthy civil service which can run the country by itself even if all the ministers were to go on a holiday for a year.

Many Perm Secs are as good as ministers and they can do the job of the ministers, maybe even better.

Unless these civil servants realise that the civil service is not PAP-owned, Singapore will never see any changes for the better.

You can never underestimate the conversion of new citizens which is now becoming significant.

The issue is many Singaporeans although hate PAP but fear of change.

So the key in this election is if Singaporeans want to improve policies, and their lives and stop massive import of FTs (10M), they need to go all the way out to convince and vote oppositions.

58% is still very high, Singaporeans must push it below 55% and win 3-4 GRCs. If possible, vote AMKC, Pasir Ris, Tampines and Tanjong Pagar to shock the regime. Can you imagine if Pinky is voted out, Mdm H will be forced to go out also. So better persuade voters to vote Pinky out!!!

All of us must go out to persuade more voters to VTO!!!

    Lessons from last GE

1). Social media writes as if the opposition has already won. This worries the fence sitters, mostly asset owners, thus a mad swing of votes to PAP. Personally, I don’t believe the vote swing is due to LKY’s demise.

    2) Every seat was being contested, this really spread the oppositions’ resources too thinly. That’s why we see jokers trying their luck, would you vote a chimpanzee?

    3) Opposition is too fragmented! Everyone wants to be PM, even speaking at rallies as if they are already in power. This worries a lot of people, especially the comfortable ones. Opposition, kindly try to work together and strategies.

    4) Take a leaf from grandmaster Chiam See Tong, let the PAP win some seats on nomination day, and fight the GE like a by-election.

    5) Opposition, please say good about yourselves, by all means. But, please don’t attack PAP for the sake of attacking, it leaves a bad taste to the fence sweaters.

    Thanks

    @ Flabbergasted

IN A WORLD OF ESCALATING NEGATIVE and falling interest rate, how is asset values going to be sustainable of price uptick, even in a bubble?

The asset “owners” are a stupid lot, and if they don’t wake up, they endanger their economic stability their blindness cannot see.

JUST THINK ALONG THIS PLANE, if creditors are going to pay debtors to borrow their money and also risking complete loss of capital (if the debtors go bust), the day will come sooner than later creditors all freeze up. Cheap money all gone, economy went bust as credit market frozen up. Unemployment escalated, no jobs anywhere. The asset owners vote PAPpy mindset trapped themselves in PAPpynomics’ asset enhancement bubbles suddenly find themselves frozen and property values crashed with a blink of an eye. There is no escape as jobs vaporize at the same time.

THE BIGGER THE DEBT, THE HARDER IS FAMILY MEMBERS’ RESCUE.The next decade must be a time for sober frugality – NO MATTER WHO THEY VOTE- except those who vote PAPpy is more likely to be gungho mistaken that PAPpy either got the solution or come to their rescue THAT WONT BE THE CASE.

  • Opposition to Oppose Electroni:

Oppositions should oppose any electronic devices to be implemented for this coming Election. The devices should be implemented for the next election in year 2026 giving amber times for Oppositions to inspect the device. The self inking devices may contain electronics recording circuit beyond its intended purpose. Opposition should totally oppose it.

You do not need a elephant electronic pen when a simple mechanical pen or pencil can do its job. When Singapore Pools ticketing machines can accept and recognize marking of tickets by pencil, why do you need such new and elaborate inking pen at this short notice.? Totally unacceptable.

Pertinent question for the Oppositions to ask:

    1) Does the device contains Electronic Procession Units example cpu/mpu/mcu etc.

    2) Does the device contains storage device example memory, hard disk, recording media etc..

    3) Does the device contain radio frequency receiving and transmitter units

    4) Does the device contains optical recognition unit.

    5) Does the Election Department has the relevant knowledge and ability in Electronics device to avoid that the device/s were rigged? Any of those contravene that the election is confidential.

The device must be sent to neutral parties in US to verify the codes, electronic circuits, verify the ink and then locked and sealed before they are used.

Particularly the counting unit. In any case, counting must be done manually. Additional question: is the ink erasable or permanent to avoid passing thru UV erase and re-mark in counting unit.

    1) Via the Internet using English Language

    2) Via Internet using the Mandarin, Malay and Tamil Language for the older folk who do not understand the English Language.

What about those old folks who do not know how to use the PC and Internet ?

  • PAP Track Record ?:

    @TL Tan

Thank you for your contribution. You made my day cos my feet are laughing. Lets Discuss.

    1) Track Record Of Ministers Good or Bad ?
From what I see, unlike LKY and his Ministers, our current Ministers are not capable of predicting or anticipating oncoming problems. They can only respond when problems crop up. Eg MRT breakdown issues, Introduction of PMDs on footpaths etc..

    2)CPF
LKY promised that we will get back our CPF at 55 years old. WTF his son go against his father promise. Is the PAP trying to be a loan shark ? Even our fathers do not try to control our money.

    3) HDB Price Increase
LKY, GCT assured us that our HDB prices will increase and be asset to us when we retire and downgrade to a smaller house. They have been telling lies all the while to win votes during election.

    4) 9 % GST Increase
Govt has been upfront on GST increase. Wrong, Tharman had been upfront to us when he told us previously that there will not be any increase in GST for the decade. It show that we cannot trust the PAP as they do not keep their words.

    5) Foreign Talents Contribution
Foreign Talents contribute diverse knowledge, expertise and viewpoints advance our economy. Again another stupid nonsense. Singapore has been the number one economy in Asia except for Japan. These FT come from the countries that are behind Singapore such as India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, etc. If they are really that good, their countries would have been the number one.

Please use proper facts if you really want to convince people. KNNBCCB

These are people whose bank balance and status depends on the very system that is defective.

So why should they go and hang themselves by looking and analysing fact objectively? Such analysis would require a proper perspective or framework based on the collective interest of citizens.

They only hang others, never themselves. So they must continue in the direction they have taken because of their “earnings”. Debating with these people is futile and a waste of time.
