Data of 2400 MINDEF and SAF personnel affected by data breach

An investigation is being carried out, as two malware incidents on third-party vendors to the MINDEF and SAF could potentially compromise the personal data of thousands of servicemen.

ST Logistics, which provides logistics services to MINDEF and SAF, said that the potential breach was the result phishing emails sent to its employees’ email accounts.

The affected systems at ST Logistics contained full names and NRIC numbers and a combination of contact numbers, email addresses or residential addresses of about 2,400 MINDEF and SAF personnel.

HMI Institute, which provides training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator to MINDEF and SAF, said that they discovered a file server to be encrypted by ransomware on Dec 4.

The HMI Institute server reportedly contained backup information on 120,000 individuals, including their full names, NRIC numbers, dates of birth, home addresses and email addresses, depending on the course they had enrolled or applied for.

Both companies have informed the Personal Data Protection Commission and the Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team of the incidents. They are also informing all affected individuals.

Blogger Andrew Loh said: “All these breaches keep happening but miraculously no higher up is held accountable. For others, one mistake and POFMA is invoked, the media activated, and it is a big hooha.”.

What do you think?

And PAP wants to boast that Singapore is becoming a smart nation indeed ha ha ha!

The phishing emails got through their spam filter and the daft personnel clicked on them since they were so daft. And having an entire server, even if it’s a backup server, enncrypted by ransomware shows just how bad your security software is.

No heads of the top management will roll for this one since it’s never ever their fault. It’s always the vendor’s fault after all.

Look for more hacking incidents to come in the near future.

  • Harder Truths:

Ah, one of the man joys of using IT companies full of FT.

Either it was intentional or the system is so badly designed and / or managed by FT that no one can stop this from happening.

Usually the people looking after these things also don’t give a sh*t.

I am just waiting for news that $G banks have also been f**ked up. It is a sure thing that sooner or later this will happen when FT are involved. I hope the 70% get their reward when the bank says someone in China or South Asia emptied their account and nothing can be done – sorry about that.

  • pap says, never mind:

in a political party that happens to be voted into power, for the moment, by a group of stupid 70% sheep, their duplicity is world renowned.

    INDIAN is malay.

INSIDE 200m is not within 200m.

HDB is asset that can be enhanced.

the best example of pap duplicity is when an obvious mistake is made.

when OPPO folks such as Mr Yaw SL of WP a little too close to an enthusiastic female OPPO supporter, all the force of pap abuse came into play, such as pap states times pap tv mediacorpse and every pap Lj and every pap Cb alive then in pap pliant parleement.

BUT when pap clan member Michael palmer, pap speaker of pap pliant parleement, palmed pap PA director laura ong so well until Michael palmer wife also cannot tahan, not a sound from the same pap Ljs and pap Cbs in pap pliant parleement.

if data breach is by OPPO, sure as sunrise pap states times pap tv mediacorpse and every pap Lj and very pap Cb all sound all fury and pap stroke heng to insist in pap pliant parleement for all such OPPO to recuse themselves from such business.

BUT as heave has eyes, data breach is by pap mindef run by pap faker of pap master liar lky mannerisms, not a whimper once again from the same pap Ljs and pap Cbs.

1 current pap law, always 2 current pap interpretations.

are we worried? yes. a little worried. just a little. you see, we are old and we are worried we may not last long enough to see pap clown and wife indicted as najib and wife now are indicted under esteemed Dr Mahatir PH government.

  • No Awareness Training?:

Singapore GLC and government organisation must already have security awareness and training program put in place. Singaporean workers are well equipped with knowledge not to open/click any unknown or suspicious email/links. Is phishing the truth or ST logistics excuse to cover it’s weak system security. Or it could the work of insider threat such as IT outsourced CECA workers .

  • PAP don't build nationalism:

By now every citizen should realize data hacks, data leaks, data exposures are NORMS in SG when PAP Administration is the govt.

Anyone died of heart attacks upon knowing data leaks so often so regularly in SG? If there’s anyone died-Ed of heart attack bcz of data exposures in SG – he or she must be a cave man.

  • Personal Data Can Sell:

Do you know one person info can be sold USD1 to few USD in the cyber black market.

Do you think FTs are tempted to steal such info when they hold the password to database access or Web access? Or they coordinate with external threats by providing back door.

  • POFMA is a Double-Edge Weapon:

2,400 breaches is grossly unthinkably understated.
The actual figure is 120,000 including 100,000 from SAF and MINDEF.

WHY DID THE MINISTER FOR DEFENCE NOT ISSUE POFMA CORRECTION ORDER TO THE PRO-GOVT MEDIA?

Failure to correct a falsehood published by any pro-govt media is an offence as well as a encouragement for the citizens to publish falsehood or misinformation, following the examples set out.

Therefore, if not applied equally and fairly across the board, for everybody, by every Minister who has the responsibility to do so, POFMA is an unfair and an unjust law that should not even exist in a law-abiding country like Singapore.

    Straight "A"s Marlboro Tan:
The party against people imported so many CECA FT claiming to be talents

CECA India is world-renown for talented rapists too.
From seven years ago, when Singapore helped to try and save the life of the girl who was brutally raped by six talented Indians, today the situation has become worse.
The pool of talented rapists have increase by more than 30%. And among all the cities in India, New Delhi, the capital and seat of the Modi government of India, is the worst. It is now know as The Rapists’ City of the World.

Any girl or woman from Singapore, thinking of going to India for tours or pilgrimage, had better think a hundred times before making that decision.

Some, or most, of the imported CECA Indians in Singapore may also have the rapist tendency. So, actually, even within Singapore, our girls and women are now unnecessarily exposed to the danger of being raped by the Indian rapists from India.

Why is the PAP putting our girls and women in grave danger of being raped by such rapists from India?

CECA must be stopped at all costs!

    1. Ministers will still keep their job from this, contractors will be the scapegoat.

    2. Terrorists don’t need to risk their lives to come attack us physically, just by cyberattack like this is more than enough. In fact, they don’t even need to do anything to us, let us self screw by this incompetence gov can already.

    3. This could be due to outsourcing cybersecurity contracts to the vendors, ended up everything with no standard.

And is sg Sovereign if state actors are not taken to task or confronted? Or there is no solid evidence to prove beyond doubt who farked the system?

I don’t mean they can use rule of law on citizens but not on state actors. I really dun mean that.
