Deplorable behaviour from the PAP IBs

There has been a WhatsApp message circulating:

“My fellow Singaporean and PAP supporters:-

GE is coming soon and after 65 years of PAP as the ruling party we can all agree that we are very lucky to have such wonderful leaders so far. Lee kuan yew is always going to be a part of us and without him we would not have made it this far.
Alot of our surrounding neighbours and other Western countries even envy us on our progress and success from 3rd world to first but our future still remains uncertain. With PAP i am confident that we can move on and with good quality leaders.

Majority of singaporeans won’t forget where we started and how far we have come. All thks to our pioneer generation.

Let me point out how far we have been recognised around the world and how hard PAP has worked to achieve all this:

No 1 most competitive economy in the world (even beating the united states)
3 Highest per capita gdp in the world
Top 5 least corrupted countries in the world.
Top 5 luckiest places to be born in
Top 2 safest country in the world.
No 1 in the rule of law
No 1 airport in the world(with jewel that has opened everyone’s mouth wide open all around the world)
No 1 passport
No 1 airlines
No 1 busiest and best sea port ( with tuas megaport coming up)
No 1 education system in the world with still leading no 1 in maths and science.
Best infrastructure in the world(roads hdb schools which alot of countries ask sg for help in blueprint to do the same)
Best healthcare in South east asia.
Best savings system both cpf and medisave
A formidable military force in South east asia.
Most free trade agreement we have around the world.
Going to be no 1 in global innovation hub and AI soon
Cities underground and floating cities on water.
Greater southern waterfront project
Ban pmd on the footpath.
And many many more………
This will put our country on the top of the world.

How can you not be more proud to say you are a singaporean looking at all this achievements.
Singapore a tiny city state with just 700 sq km can punch above it’s weight not easy
Really really not easy and PAP has done it
All thks to LKY/GCT and LHL and of course the entire 1G 2G 3G leaders with them.
They have so many long term plans for the prosperity of Singapore and we are going to go beyond imagination on what the future will be like.
So i request all singaporeans vote wisely and support PAP as we cannot ask for a more better govt than this.
Can you find this sort of achievement in the history of mankind ???
We are blessed to have such a wonderful govt that takes care of it’s citizens well and also builds up the reputation for singapore that is well known and confident around the world.

For the ungrateful opposition supporters:-

While all these have been achieved there are certain people in sg especially in aljunied and hougang who are selfish/vile/cruel and only know how to kao pei kao bu for everything instead of improving themselves.
They lack the intellectual ability to understand what cpf and medisave is for and only have short term thinking. Complain about ministers having high pay or cost of living etc etc and they just keep complain complain forever without working hard or studying hard and improving their own lives.
Does the oppo voters know what is happening around their town. Voted for oppo can you see any developments in aljunied and hougang ??
The recent town council scandal somemore by the oppo with your tax money
What will happen to sg ???
The reputation ???
Stop pause and think wisely
Don’t just be selfish and feeble minded.
Think about the future for singapore. Go live in africa india north korea mexico then come and see how blessed you are to be born in sg. You will kiss changi airport floor ah.”

There are loads of pro-establishment internet trolls online who would libel and paint negative light on ordinary Singaporeans whose opinions are not in favour of the ruling party, or even if they do not cast the ruling party in good light.

These people shoot down genuine concerns of the voiceless who simply mention their day to day struggles, mainly arising from financial issues as their salaries and wages are stagnant compared to the ever rising costs of living.

The labels used against Singapore citizens range from “racist”, “loonies”, “deplorable”, “ignorant”. It’s like this, when you stop supporting the ruling party, you instantly become a bad human being and your rights to an opinion and your existence needs to be taken away.

Is this how the ruling party should their non-supporters who are also Singapore citizens?

PAP falls? So what? If the country cannot stand without the PAP, that is the party’s fault. It made the people meek and timid, not proud and mighty. Where are those men and women of old who could stir up a good debate and discussion in Parliament? Few remain. Soon, none will.

  • opposition dude:

I always have a good laugh when I read these pro pau lam pars on Hardwarezone or some other forum extolling how good PAP are. They never ever defend themselves when someone says something negative about their beloved party.

They forget this is the internet age and that people are more well informed about matters compared to way back then. Sure the PAP loves to talk big about busy port, Jewel, safe city and all that but we all know they aren’t perfect. How about the negatives like unaccountability, sky high HDB prices, overcrowding in trains and the continued inflow of aliens?

You can tell these silly IBs don’t really have a leg to stand on the moment they say silly stuff about ministers’ high pay being justified or that there is nothing wrong with the PM’s wife being the boss of the country’s SWF. To these idiotic idiot parrots they don’t know accountability means just like the party they support.

And saying that voters are ungrateful in Hougang and Aljunied is just plain insulting. It’s as if this stupid IB really thinks the opposition cannot make it ha ha ha. If anything, both Potang Pasir under Mr Chiam and Hougang under Mr Low alone prove that the opposition can make it. Otherwise why did PAP lose so many times in Potang Pasir before winning it back? Why has PAP never been able to win Hougang back?

So just laugh at these silly little posts by the IBs, they have already shown they have no integrity, are brainless and can’t even argue their point across. I used to get annoyed when I read stuff like this but these days I just skip right past them.

I’m repeatedly shocked at the lack of understanding of secular stagnation in the economics community. Why is it so hard for you to get this? A lot of the issue is a total lack of creativity and initiative in the private sector here…

In a globalized world, trade and capital imbalances have no reason to seek balance. Economic systems don’t exist outside of politics, so if a nation is controlling most of its corporations and workers, it will do what is necessary to re-balance inequality. However, in a global world, inequality is almost meaningless. How can any citizen make sense of the low wages in many undeveloped countries? There is no balancing force of politics in global affairs, and no trade agreement is going to change that any time soon, and certainly the CECA is not going to change that. It is going to make things worse!

Why do economies work in the first place? Why do they often balance? Political force balances economies in all cases.

The lack of global political systems prevents this. The idea of functional global political systems in the near future is pure fantasy. It is 50 years ahead of its time. It won’t happen any time soon. Right now we have a bunch balloon-head billionaires and the economists that follow them that believe in such madness.

We need to get back down to earth and talk about real things rather than balloon-headed goals of global political systems.

S’pore had been lucky the last 50 years.
    * From the Winsemius Economic Doctrine which Dr Goh Keng Swee adopted into the EDB/JTC format for attracting inward investment from MNCs;
    * the Post WW2 Cold War era which S’pore benefitted by adopting an Anti-communist mechanism – S’pore became USA’s Poster Boy for Democracy inspite being an Authoritarian Govt;
    * Globalisation effort from direct manufacturing investments (which ended 1998/2000s) to corporate tax haven (post-2000s Globalisation capital concentration on tax havens in evading tax).

But this streak of luck for S’pore is ending. Geopolitical situation & shifting global alliances are changing!

And S’pore’s future is totally bleak!
    1. S’pore totally missed the Smartphone revolution. Compared to China, they are way ahead of S’pore. Why? STEM education & philosophy! S’pore education system speaks for itself!
    2. China’s BRI – look at the Strategic pathways of the BRI – they don’t bode well for S’pore’s future!
    3. Shift from globalisation to regionalism. This economic shift will disadvantaged S’pore’s role as an intermediary with the focus would be on bilateral trade at China’s behest.

China now has the technology, manufacturing capability & advance knowhow – they only need raw materials & basic resources for their needs.

Why would they need S’pore for?

S’pore can’t compete in world economics with a high cost structure with relatively low competency (need foreign labour on repressed wages *sic* CECA). And S’pore demographics are ominous! S’pore’s education mechanism is out of synch with the present day Knowledge Economy (wrong focus on academic instead of STEM & technology focus).

What is your Alternative then? Or do you really have one? Your narrative lacks real world understanding. FYI, Govts don’t create jobs nor economic opportunities. This show your incredible lack of economic understanding.

The era of a strong & benevolent govt was over long ago! If you are astute, you would notice the decade of monetary easing were creating huge wealth disparity & asset bubbles. Who are the architects of these choices? Govts & their Central Banks. S’pore is caught up with their actions.

    https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/boom-and-bust-cycle.asp
This is nothing new, we have already been through 2 major crises in 1997 & 2008. With a good and very experienced government and the strong support of the citizens, we can sail through such crisis unscathed.

For the last half of a century, this government that we trusted has kept on transforming our economy to bring in jobs and business opportunities for Singaporeans, and it will be the same in future.
We are a very tiny country and we cannot make mistakes. Once we vote for the wrong choice and send investors and foreigners fleeing, we will be in disaster.

That’s the difference between you & me. You only see a repetitive phase whereas I see a radical Paradigm Shift which will change people’s future outlooks & forced a 180° shift in expectations! Only time will show who will be right!

We’re into a demographic spiral towards geriatrical proportions with an inverse pyramid of ageing Baby Boomers entering their final third of their lives. Do you see any possible “Boom” going forward? I don’t think so.

The massive monetary experiment (& negative yields eco-mechanism) by Developed Economies are simply consuming potential future growth today! When it ends, there will be a long period for Austerity & Hardship where a big proportion of people who would be indebted, jobless & without any future.

Apparently, you have not read any history on ancient civilizations. Every civilization ultimately meets it’s eventual end & eventually disintegrates. All great empires have come up & fallen through time. You think that Govts can last forever? What makes your view so exceptional when history says otherwise?

Nothing is ever permanent in life! The Economy makes the Govt! Once the economy falters, pitchforks would come out against Govts which is what you’re seeing happening now eg. in HK, Chile, Paris, et al.

You may laugh right now about “parachutes”. But when it (Economic Tsunami) happens, I hope your descendants would not have to scoop the remains up in a bucket especially when you haven’t had a parachute during a free fall.

Alternative?: Your above diagnosis is just a boom & bust cycle of capitalist economies.

In Singapore, where jobs and opportunities have to be created, the government cannot influence the economy? This is a big joke.

    Who needs parachute? For what?
“Maybe one day I will parachute to see kangaroos.”

and what makes you think one can get out unscarred in the next one or the next or the next just because there is a seemingly past linear trend under ownself-check-ownself one curry party function ?

//We are a very tiny country and we cannot make mistakes.//

aiyoh. where got mistakes ? tiny country never mind, still can squeeze 6.9m or 10m open-leg policy ? who would dare to say small is a problem for the white monkey idiots ? it is only a problem to the rest of the daft sinkies lar ?

  • Art of 'boom & bust cycle':

    Financially Speaking: @ Alternative?:
Discernment between a boom & bust cycle vs a long term economic decline defines how an Intelligent & a Knowledgeable person sees the future.

The nation will probably survive for another two years, but another six? We seem to be on auto pilot with no direction at all. Will stagnation and slow decline be our ultimate destruction? Ignorance of economic principles is the friend of schemers and scammers.

I suggest another and corollary reason. It is because the Sing dollar, rather than some country-neutral international unit of exchange, is used globally/regionally in trade between other countries. As that trade volume grows, other nations (Malaysia & Asean) readily absorb excess Singaporean spending, thereby overpricing the Sing dollar. The hazard there is that we artificially become overly dependent on “bargain” imports. That supply of bargain imports can come to an abrupt end, when that international unit is revised (as I believe it will.) Those surplus trading dollars out there likely then will be dumped, driving down the relative exchange value of the Sing dollar.

At that point retail prices here for everyday items may skyrocket, with no domestic suppliers left to fill the demand. To put it another way, I see this chronic trade imbalance as our becoming dependent on financial amphetamines that can be followed by a painful crash.

Unlike many capitalist democracies, our politics venerates private corporate profits as priority over all other values. As a result of the 28% GST increases, “money is pouring into the Govt. Treasury.” That’s rich. Pick the pockets of consumers (who ultimately pick up the tab as those ‘hikes’ work their way through the food chain of goods and services) – and tell them somebody else is paying. It’s a convenient way to recoup some of the tax revenues lost because of the massive spending on infrastructures for another 10 millions; and the losers are all those 70% shoppers who vote for the pickpockets.

Are we sure there’s only a sucker born every minute? I’d say the sucker birth rate has got to be higher than that.

  • oxygen:

    @ Financially Speaking.

SPARKLING OBSERVATIONS on the dot there. No value is EVER created in endless real estate and infrastructural bubbles fueled by insanity of population influx in land scare Singapore. It is just inflation following on the tail of imaginary wealth of bubbles fiction economic.

Financially Speaking: S’pore’s GDP growth have been dependent on “endless” Infrastructural Spending, Real Estate “bubble” priming & a never ending flood of foreigners into our increasingly service economy reliant on low wages. Yet the S’pore landscape is highly inflationary & the cost of living exceptionally high due to the crony capitalism. Low wage & high cost of everything can’t correlate with a sustainable future! Don’t be fooled!

@ Alternative. Me thinks you are wrong on this

Alternative?: This is nothing new, we have already been through 2 major crises in 1997 & 2008.

If China cannot go back to its urbanisation (ghost cities) and infrastructural bubbles with each catchment of 1.4 billion inhabitants and geographic vastness, we have no chance at making this fake economy in LEE-jiapore work.

    THE SIMPLE REASON

IT IS THE DEVELOPMENT CYCLE – history does not walk backward nor the clock. If it can, every developing economy will just tear down their cities and rebuild it with massive infrastructure. That is why OBOR is outside China.

We have long past the take-off stage of the 80s.The world is much more connected now. Post GFC, the world is awashed with debts, little real economic achievement (mainly slower growth) for 10 years, lesser cushion to setbacks and less ammo to fightback globally.

WE HAVE TO MAKE CHOICES NOT WAIT FOR DISASTER TO OVERWHELM AND THEN ASK – WHAT AH?
