The alleged delay in the release of the EBRC report

Earlier today, we were queried by the media about our thoughts on the alleged delay in the release of the report by the Election Boundaries Review Committee (“EBRC”).

In our perspective, there is little value in speculating the timing of the EBRC’s report or the reasons for the same.

Instead, we have been focusing on our ground work and community building for the past three years now to prepare for the GE, whenever it may be held.

Instead of focusing on things like the time of the elections, which is out of our control, we will continue focus on things well within our control – like working the ground, connecting with residents and advocating for the people.

This way, no matter when the elections are called, we will not be caught off guard.

Further, we cannot allege that there had been a delay as such an assertion presumes that there was a fixed date.

To resolve this issue, we advocate for the introduction of a Fixed Terms of Parliaments Act to be passed in Singapore. Essentially, it will provide for the date of elections to be set in stone and remove the Prime Minister’s discretion in that regard.

Under the proposed legislation, only a 75% majority of Parliament can allow for the date mandated by statute to not be adhered to.

Finally, we would like to put on record our appreciation to The Workers’ Party for raising the question in Parliament.

An interesting question is – Is PA-Pigs secretly already preparing all the election artworks getting ready for printing?

Is there a level playing field in SG? I don’t think so.

Yes, Worker’s Party deserves a pat on their back for raising in Parliament.

Ever since Pritam took over the baton from Low, WP has been seen as a formidable force to counter PAP. WP has been also very warm towards other political parties and is ready to work with them, unlike during Low tenure.

WP has learned alot from their Town Council saga and now realize that they no longer be the single Opposition voice and that they may lose their existing seats if they continue to ignore other Opposition parties.

Pritam, well done and Singaporeans are recognizing your leadership. Please give your party’s best support and not to conflict with your bros in other parties.

We need to be united in every way to break the PAP Junta.

Regime change may not happen soon, but at least Singaporeans are ready to break PAP’s dominance, to ensure all Bills passed in Parliament are well debated with Singaporeans in mind.

Very likely West Coast-Ayer Rajah will disappear. If Indian and be Malay, this disappearing act may happen.

I hope the SPP and all other opposition parties have actually been walking the ground instead of just saying so. What estates and blocks have been visited and how many Singaporeans have been spoken to is what I would like to know.

The real exam is coming this year and when all votes are counted we will see if we have an increased opposition presence in parliament. It’s time to give PAP another wakeup call since the dafts didn’t do so back in 2015.

Who knows, the PAP might even be forced into a coalition government this year!

pap can delay this and delay that.

we are always ready to vote OPPO.

as long as no walkover, anyone other than pap gets our votes.

we never lie like pap. when we say we vote OPPO, we vote OPPO.

But who safeguards the ballot box and guarantee it’s untamperable? This is a theoretical questions. Is the process untamperable in any way whatsoever?

    Who can prove this?

    Excellent response SPP!

I totally agree that Fixed Term Parliament Act be passed. And each term no longer than 42 months and must conduct next election before the end of 48 months.

    1. And also Fixed Term on PM post to a total of no longer than 2 parliament terms consecutively allowed.

    2. President term no longer than 2 terms, each 48months and be in-charge of Defense and Foreign affairs.

    3. Parliament with 75% vote able to impeach President.

    4. Law society to elect COJ and each COJ term 48months and no longer than 2 terms.

Election Agents must SEAL the ballot box and put their Unique Signature on the ballot box and take photos to compare before and after. The box must not be tamperable. This must be ensured.

  • Rich crony died young:

Why did media alleged there was a delay when it is not proven so? And media so kindly posed the question to opposition?

    Was that a trick question?

    Be really careful now .

  • Uncle Lim:

One word that PAP leadershit NEVER used even once in 50 odd years is the word DEMOCRATIC.

This despite the fact that from kindergarten to Junior College students have to recite daily the National Pledge to “…build a democratic society..”.

This exposes the hypocrisy and insincerity of the ruling PAP.

In contrast, Tsai having won the Presidency for the second term immediately declared that “…Taiwanese are proud of their democratic way of life..”.

I’m baffled why WP never asked PAP where’s the democratic society as pledged by even Ministers at every National Day event.
