SDP Treasurer organises petition for Marsiling residents, gets over 100 signatures

In a Facebook post on Monday (13 Jan), the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) has said that their Treasurer Bryan Lim had drawn up a petition and obtained 100 signatures from the residents of Blocks 115 and 119 Marsiling Rise.

According to the post, residents at those blocks had been asking the authorities to install lifts that will stop on every floor “for more than 10 years” to no avail. Some of the residents that the SDP had interacted with were suffering because of the lack of lift landing on each floor.

One paralysed resident had to be carried down each time she goes out, while another had an elderly mother who is currently 84-years old. A third was an SIA flight attendant who had difficulty with her luggage as it was too heavy for her to carry.

In an earlier Facebook post on Lim’s personal page (5 Jan), a HDB officer had informed a resident that a new lift shaft had to be added for each segment at Block 115 that is currently without a lift. The new lifts will serve only one benefitting unit per floor and a total of 4 lift shafts will have to be installed in the block, thus exceeding the cost cap.

Lim added that the residents “could not comprehend why the PAP government could spend $880,000 to build a bin, $40 million for a National Day parade, overspent the 2010 Youth Olympic games by $300 million, lavished the People’s Association by $1 billion to carry out its political work and yet could not spend money to address their public housing issue”

Residents that he interacted with were more than willing to share the costs of such upgrading.

Lim also noted in a separate post (4 Jan) that a posted had been put up by the area’s MP Ong Teng Koon saying that “We hear you..” that he did not recall being present during his previous visit on 2 Dec.

The party added that these actions was a “demonstration of how an effective opposition serves the interests and well-being of residents and stops the PAP from taking the people for granted”.

What do you think?

You give them the majority, this is how they will treat you. Now that Oppo is involved, it will take them 100 years to build. If you want your lifts quick, better change government.

  • VTO or stop complaining:

With everything else these days, all we hear are excuses or insults at natives, from the PAP camp.
So folks since they treat us like we dont count, show them the same sentiments at coming GE.
Stop being dafts and scaredy cats.
    Or else nothings gonna change.

  • Useless MPs:

    Dear Marsiling Residents,

You have useless MPs in your GRC – Minister Lawrence Wong (National Development) and Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State for National Development.

The GRC concept of having big guns to support powerless MPs is NOT working. Ha ha ha.

Only when Opposition makes noise, we see sudden support coming.
One reason for the lack of support of Ministers is becos residents in this constituency overwhelmingly voted for PAP, so PAP is over-confident the daft sheep in this constituency will only speak to PAP and not to Opposition.

Now things are moving after Opposition was informed.

What happen to the threat from PAP all these years that if you vote for them, you will get HDB upgrading. PAP didn’t keep their promise after they were voted in ?

The flock of Sheep in Marsiling have learn a bitter lesson for other constituencies sheep to see and learn, not to vote for PAP.

too pathetic. 2 blocks approx 2thousand residents but only 100 signed up.
    So sad.
Gov will say the majority all happy the way things are.
    So no lift..
If 50% signed the petition at least got hope.
    Whats wrong with the others?

You go and read the predicament of Mr Mohan and you will understand why millions were spent on extravagance other than helping sinkies.

Even the Malaysian police can order sinkies around.

To be fair to Malaysian police, it was reported that they also puzzled why a sinkie was sent to them when the culprits were already apprehended in Malaysia.

Oh, so this is the GRC where the minority race residents kena short-changed one izzit? The one which is supposed to have a minority race MP who was an Indian but ta-da became a Malay president in a period of a couple of months. And then G ended up saying don’t need minority race MP, parliament has enough representatives already, so don’t need by-election.

Whahahaha….. wonder if those people in this GRC would be so dumb to vote for the very same party to screw them again in the coming GE.

  • Best wishes from Halimah:

The Marsiling constituency has been neglected after Halimah left to become an erected President.

There was an announcement that Zagy Mohammed will cover for the “loss” of Halimah.

    What happen ?

Like what Dr Chee says- “Trust is not what you say, it’s what you do ”

  • Harder Truths:

The voters will today cry to SDP and tomorrow vote in the pappies. Wait and see. They think anytime they have problems just KPKB and the oppo will be there to fight for them.

After this next GE I wonder how many alternative political parties and their candidates / members will want to continue being the stooges of the voters.

There is always a limit to what people are willing to sacrifice. After the next GE the price of being in the oppo will be seen as too high. Then let the voters fight their own battles.

  • Realistically:

What those who hv commented refused to think is this: a $ spent on satisfying/meeting the needs of a few minority is a $ less to be spent on, say, health care; subsidising cost of living etc.

It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to EXPLOIT minor issues…………while billions are lost by incompetent people………..sinkies would find that after all is said and done, the PAPies are returned to power, even with less %, but nevertheless the oppos hv wasted their $ & effort…………..hahaha, blame the 63% (or whatever figure, currently 69.9% per last GE).

The oppos NEVER learnt……..especially one guy described by LKY as too clever by half……….besides other more denegrating epithets.

  • Realistically:

    Should hv been DEGRADING epithers.

The $ spent to provide lift to a few is less well spent than $ to be spent on health care……….why should the govt spent, say $10 to provide lift for a few when the same $10 spent in blocks which could benefit dozen of people where this is possible? Surely UNFAIR, right………….but such analysis would have escaped the likes of Bryan Lim of the SDP………Now sinkies should understand the severe lack of critical thinking skills of the SDP……….BUT the SDP would never listen.

No Singaporean could have it better.

    Vote pap, walk up stairs.

Vote OPPO, lifts that stop at every floor.

More than this, GST reduce from 7% to 5%, and not increase from 7% to 9%.

There bound to have “selfish residents” in a block who like to take part in RC and CC events. They volunteered to sell events tickets by knocking at every door, level by level and to promote awareness. They feel very proud to be one of them (like real).

  • good critical thinking:

//The $ spent to provide lift to a few is less well spent than $ to be spent on health care……….why should the govt spent, say $10 to provide lift for a few when the same $10 spent in blocks which could benefit dozen of people where this is possible?//

aiyoh ? then, why build lifts (assume you mean for every floor) for every new building then or the many lift ungrade for many existing blocks already ? may as well ask them to climb the steps and spin it as a good exercise for a healthy nation (can be good white idiotic propaganda also lar) ? and MANY people horde up lifts (e.g hospitals) at the expense of wheelchair bound even if it means getting out at the next one level ?

the lift you provide for a few is also a lift you provide for the all the people of the whole block lar (just like in almost all the new buildings lar) – just that it also meets the important objective to ease the movement of those who need it more lar ?

//Now sinkies should understand the severe lack of critical thinking skills of the SDP……….BUT the SDP would never listen.//

what critical thinking skills ? asking help to build lifts for those in need require such chim a critical thinking meh ?

white idiots got lagi good critical thinking e.g 4 = 5 and selected = elected and inside is not within ? if this wayang can happen at the important level, surely the white idiots can wayang a little bit on critical thinking by providing lifts in the context of the article proper ?

on critical thinking, maybe the one designing such blocks did not apply the necessary critical thinking (that some realistically realistic guy mentioned) to max out as much as possible the number of units per floor sharing the same set sets of lifts and staircases ?

Msian Parliamentarians bring up all sorts of issues, big or small, it doesn’t matter if it affects many people.

Here our MPs are literally SLEEPING ON THE JOB, let alone bring up seemingly small matters like lifts.

Any MP who’s not representing his constituents but only PAP should be kicked out.

If we adopt this mentality, see which MP dares to shake legs.

They’re paid millions yet lazy like hell. Aren’t they shameless to be taking and taking?

    Shameful!

Part time job what is more. Which part time job in the world nets you $16000 A MONTH?

Since the last GE, I’ve yet to see a single one of them in AMK GRC going around to talk to their constituents.

yar lor ? then why so many buses have wheelchair ramp for a few people and ‘waste’ the time of the driver having to pull out / pull back the ramp for wheelchair bounded passengers ? unfair right ?

must also be UNFAIR for people to talk so much about a caring society for those physically and mentally challenged persons (should be relatively small in number compared to many blessed people lucky and fortunate enough not to be “challenged”) ?

The real disadvantage for the citizens to vote during GE is the the GRC that favour the Parti against people. The citizens have to vote a team of 4,5 or 6 candidates, even they dislike certain candidates in this grouping. The voters should be given the choice of voting the one candidate he like to represent him in Pariahment, a practice in many democratic countries.
