57th Anniversary of Operation Coldstore: What have we gained as a country?

In the wee hours on 2 Feb 1963,  a covert security operation – known as Operation Coldstore – was launched by the Special Branch to arrest more 113 people comprising of activists, union workers, students and politicians.

The reason given by the authorities was that the operation was mounted to “safeguard against any attempt by the Communists to mount violence or disorder in the closing stages of the establishment of the Federation of Malaysia”.

These people who were arrested were subsequently detained without trial after being accused of varying degrees of involvement; their case files listed security classifications ranging from “communist” to “suspected communist sympathiser”.

Yet, the operation was not without its controversy that the communist threat was exaggerated.

Contending that there no evidence to show that the Operation Coldstore detainees were involved in any violent communist conspiracy to overthrow the government, historian PJ Thum said that the operation was politically motivated rather than being carried out for security reasons.

Former journalist Said Zahari – who were among the arrested – said that it was more of a method to “weaken the opposition to the PAP in Singapore”.

In the first Parliamentary session in newly-independent Singapore, not a single opposition MP attended. The leading opposition party Barisan Sosialis – which held 13 out of 51 seats in the 1963 General Election – boycotted the session to protest against the “undemocratic acts” of the PAP.

In the latter 1968 General election, the PAP had a clean sweep of all the Parliamentary seats as most of the opposition leaders had boycotted the general elections except for the Worker’s Party which had contested in 2 seats.

Teo Soh Lung said: “They used foul but legal means to destroy democracy in Singapore. They were cowards and bullies when they used the law to arrest and imprison their political opponents so as to prevent them from contesting the election. The PAP was victorious in 1963 but at what moral cost?”

Activist Jolovan Wham concluded: “It’s effects are still felt today through the fear that many have of publicly expressing their political opinions and taking political action.”

if communism is so bad why is pap liar lky and now his ffffing useless clown sucking up to communist China?

everyone with a brain knows operation cold storage was just a convenient political excuse to remove strong OPPO.

good thing is, pap liar lky is dead and is being punished now on the other side. this pap liar lky is probably trying his best to send message to his clown via his other son Mr Lee Hsien Yang and his daughter Dr Lee Wei Ling to tell clown better not to follow in papa lying ways to avoid same punishment when up the lorry.

    too bad.

sins like filthy rags. confirmed punishment both while living, as soon as New Government forms, and dead, punished no less severely like pap liar lky is punished now.

so all those who suffered under pap BS operation cold storage take heart. have the last laugh since these liars all end up bad.

LKY is Commie, dictator guise as democracy saint saviour founding father.
Mao used Cultural Revolution to rid of all intellects and political opponents before he died.
LKY used Operation Cold Storage. Whoever gain political power can write the history.
If opposition win next GE and form next government can also re-write history in school textbooks too.
i.e LKY was a trait** who worked for Japanese during WW2 Japanese Occupation.

How powerful and strong are you ? When you are dead, your soul have to appear to Lord Yama and he will melt out punishment to you for all the evils done.

So don;t think you are rich, famous or powerful, you can lie and bully others. You and your next generations will have to re-pay all your evil doing in Hell.

This is a wake up calls to these stupid and foolish politicians…
