Calling an election now will unnecessarily expose 2.6 million Singaporeans to the virus

Let’s avoid a potential health crisis.

Today, the Ministry of Health (MOH)announced 40 new cases of COVID-19 in Singapore. MOH also suspended events and gatherings with 250 participants or more until June30. [ LINK ]

So far, Singapore’s healthcare workers have worked hard 24/7 to contain the virus spread. Singaporeans are grateful. However, the rise in COVID-19 cases is worrying. Many are imported cases – Singaporeans and PRs rushing back to avoid lockdowns in other countries.

And yet, we hear escalating talk of a GE being held in April 2020.

As a doctor, I am extremely concerned for those over 60 years old (especially the senior elderly) if an election is called soon.

Voting is compulsory by law. Candidates and their volunteers from all parties will move around neighbourhood estates, markets and make door to door home visits. Crowds will gather at rallies. On polling day, every Singaporean must physically cast their vote at polling stations in the presence of polling agents, policemen and many others. This goes against good advice to practice social distancing by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and MOH.

Calling an election now will unnecessarily expose 2.6 million Singaporeans to the virus.

This is a public health issue and we need to follow the advice of medical professionals, local (eg the Singapore Medical Association) and international (eg the WHO).

Let’s listen to the doctors and let them guide our decisions to avoid a potential health crisis.

Dr Tan Cheng Bock

The PAP monsters who called for the erection should all come out in public and expose themselves to the virus without mask on. Since according to kee chiu Chan it is xia suay to wear mask.
Whoever get sick with virus and don’t die gets the right to be voted in.

  • Small Space Isn't Safe:

If they go ahead with the GE, it shows that PAP wants to take advantage of the climate of fear and uncertainty to secure an early win before Covid-19 becomes full-blown and out of control in SG. Exposing the lives of citizens to the virus at polling stations is reckless and irresponsible. If this is their attitude, then it is not the Party you want as they will put their political interests before your safety.

  • Singaporean Psyche:

    Dear Dr Tan

I thank you for raising this concern amid the pandemic. Your sticking your neck out is an act only 0.1% singaporeans would do.

But I wish to share my most important message with you.

    1. My 20years observation and research into singaporeans psyche and mentality on why singaporeans are so different than the rest of the world.

    A. Singaporeans are Ruled by Fear. Easiest in the world. Easiest frightened, intimidated, ruled.

    B. They have been Brainwashed by the social engineering campaigns. 53years.

    C. They are Conditioned to Not want Democracy and HK and Malaysia spooked them especially the fence sitters.
It’s the perfect GE for PAP thanks also to Mr Covid.

    D. Ultimate reason:
As Ironic as it may sound, singaporeans Choose a Draconian, Iron Fisting, Rule-By -Pofma , Kia Su system despite all the despites.

I hope All Alternative parties see my point. Point D is the most important factor you need to undertand in your vote winning efforts. Must understand their thinking, psyche and fears.

In conclusion, to me SG is a gone case for my retirement. I will try to keep this citizenship but would not wish to retire in such a mad place.

  • Crooked PAP:

All Singaporeans should question their respective PAP MPs on why they are supporting their boss along party lines and not on the welfare and safety of their constituents.

PAP MPs are the worse kind of species in our backyard pushing to have election in the midst of an pandemic. shameless parasites.

PAP does not need any “mandate” to get us out of this pandemic. They have been paid millions to do their job as civil servants, for the good of all citizens.

We need Dr Chee, Dr Paul T, Dr Tan, WP..etc into Parliament in the next election, to stop PAP parasites from sucking our blood for another 5 years.

Will Chan take this challenge from Chan? All elder Chan should admonish this childish Chan, like a paternalistic father lecturing his son to do the right thing.

“One sometimes finds what one is not looking for. When I woke up just after dawn on Sept. 28, 1928, I certainly didn’t plan to revolutionize all medicine by discovering the world’s first antibiotic, or bacteria killer. But I guess that was exactly what I did…. For the birth of something new, there has to be a happening. Newton saw an apple fall; James Watt watched a kettle boil; Roentgen fogged some photographic plates. And these people knew enough to translate ordinary happenings into something new… The unprepared mind cannot see the outstretched hand of opportunity.”

There are, of course, many rules to this play…but when you have acquired knowledge and experience it is very pleasant to break the rules and to be able to find something nobody has thought of …. What happens if that happens?

Will GE then only be deferred?

Or must they experience pneumonia and see how it feels?

  • Election first People Second:

Now, it looks like easy to say sorry to people than to the party. So have to take all chances to tag along and nail down the opposition. If missing the boat, then it will create a crisis for their people. Sad to feel this way, we want a government who can put people in their heart. They shall learn how to show people with compassion and empathy.

PSP and SDP should pay the victim family members condolences and give comforting words to show they really care.

    Some just talk on TV.

This way, media have to report and get publicity on the virus and maybe advise public to wear masks if that will make them feel more safe or use cheap washable masks which are still better than not wearing any. Elderlies cannot risk getting it. It’s not a normal flu. This type of pneumonia is very traumatic and painful due to breathlessness and other symptoms.
