We have a big and urgent problem

We have a big and urgent problem and we can ill-afford to let it fester.

Despite government’s advisory against travelling, too many of our imported Covid-19 cases came from our residents and long-term pass holders. Any further waves of infection from such persons may just overwhelm our medical staff, resources and our infrastructures etc. They may have very important and personal matters that they must travel overseas but in this critical time, national interests and survival must take precedence over all others. There are no two ways about it.

If I were in-charge, I will make it absolutely clear to all departing residents and long term pass holders and require them to sign an undertaking that they understood what has been communicated to them with immediate effect in the following.

For long term pass holders, upon their arrival back in Singapore, if they are sebsequently confirmed to be infected with Covid-19, the Singapore Government will not spend a single cent on their medical treatments and they must surrender their long term employment/work pass within 4 months, leave Singapore with their families, if any, and banned from working in Singapore forever. The 4 months period is to enable their employers reasonable time to adjust.

For Singaporeans, if they are sebsequently confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 upon their arrival back home, the Singapore Government will again not spend a single cent on their medical treatments and if they survive, they will be required to pay a “Covid-19 surcharge” of $5000/ to the State within 3 months from their hospital discharge date.

I am fully aware that my suggestions are draconian and they are meant to be because if we are not serious, firm and tough enough, we will never, never be able to stay on top of our Covid-19 imported cases. The risk is too much to bear.

I hope that those ‘exceptional pap ministerial taskforce’ can consider my suggestions but if they decide to adopt or modify my suggestions, please don’t claim credit for it. Think.

Europe was, until recently, rather complacent about Covid severity.
Now,they are PAYING THE PRICE as they have become the NEW EPICENTRE.

    Look at HK.
HK PEOPLE remember SARS n Chicken Flu and they started CONTAINMENT MUCH EARLIER IN JANUARY.

We dont know qhere 30K FTs from PRC are as they came back n are dispersed all over.

Coupled with this,we have rise in Dengue(15 years on) and if COVID stays when the HAZE arrives,MANY SGS WILL SUFFER.

COVID aside,THE FT POLICY has imported a variety of germs n diseases already.

It is SUTPID TO AUGMENT OUR POPULATION IN SUCH RECKLESS FASHION N GIVE RISE TO A SICK NATION SYMNDROME ultimately.
    You call this good government?

    My foot!

Singaporeans are paying B$ to our world class elites gov. and 70% are happy with their decision. Happened to talk to one yesterday. He said from what he read and saw, our PAP is doing great job. Looking around us, 98% people wearing invisible masks in public places, social gathering and religious events. People who wear masks for no reason are so called kia-si or ‘Si Gui Kia’. Masks are reserved for frontline medical team.

i agree 100%..but the gov has to take 50% of the blame..
so punish them at the next GE.
Can SGs make a formal complaint to WHO re our gov , to force them not to hold GE in the midst of this crisis.

  • Big Problem:

My guess is that these “residents” are not Singapore Citizens or they would have been reported as SG Citizens. They could be PRs who have been relocated, returned home to their country or students studying abroad (not sure if they are also on scholarship). Citizenship is a birthright, whereas PR is a priviledge. The SG govt should revoked that privilege if the PR does not reside more than half a year in the country. Scholarships to study overseas should only be given to SG citizens. PRs who do not become citizens and serve NS after completing their “A” levels should also be revoked of their PR status and made to return all expenses spent on their education. The govt should have made the parents stand as guarantors before enrolling their kids in our public schools. Otherwise, they should send their kids to private schools. Why should tax-payers have to pay millions each year educating foreigners who have no intention of becoming citizens and still enjoyig the privilege of our health-care system?

  • S$m pap folks made big mistake:

when DORSCON orange was declared, pap Ljs should have also closed the borders completely.

    alas.

the pap Ljs, both gun kim yong and laulan wrong, one old bird useless cock, the other young cocky useless Lj.

    so what happens?

    finally,

these S$m pap folks realize big mistake due to increasing imported cases into small island Singapore.

small brains mean small gains but big losses.

it is so clear as day obvious that Msians and work pass holders allowed into Singapore are more than likely to be the source of widespread contagion. the BS about no fever at time of entry is a piece of pap crap, the CYA type, since everyone who has a brain knows the virus takes up to 28 days, 4 full weeks, to show.

truly a land of money faced S$m pap folks elected by 70% sheep who all together hurt each other. clap clap clap.

    @ Simon Lim,

THE OBSESSION WITH ELECTION TIME-TABLE HURRY tells me the coronavirus crisis are “managing” PAPpypolitics and PAPpynomics right now – NOT the other way around of crisis management of death-threatening dangers.

    THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

It’s not draconian at all. There is no business to travel overseas at all when countries all over have shut down. Those selfishly traveled overseas against the advisory should be put on compulsory 28 days quarantine (not SHN) and has to pay for all expenses incurred.

  • REGIME CHANGE is the solution:

Straits Times: Hard truths about Singapore made evident in pandemic – Chua Mui Hong

The following are also “hard truths” NOT mentioned by Chua Mui Hong.

    1) The Government did NOT stockpile enough masks.

    2) The number of workers from PRC in Singapore is very large.

    3) Singapore is very dependent on Malaysia for its food supply.

    4) Having large reserves is of limited (or no) use in a global crisis because what is most needed is likely not for sale.

    5) There are self-serving bureaucrats in the public sector. They started the panic buying when the change of DORSCAN from yellow to orange was leaked.

    6) Many, if not most, Singaporeans do not really trust the PAP in a crisis as shown by the panic buying.

    7) PAP Ministers are arrogant (and out of touch) calling Singaporeans (voters) “idiots” to cover up their stupidity and incompetence when it became clear they did not stock up enough masks.

    8) PAP is prepared to risk the health of Singapore for self-serving political objectives by calling for elections in the midst of a pandemic.

  • Big Problem:

Who are these returning “residents” who have been infected with Covid-19 if they are not SG Citizens? They could be PRs who do not reside in SG but in the neighbouring country. They could also be Work Pass and Student Pass holders who have returned from their breaks. These are all legal reisdents who can travel in and out without restrictions. Entry screening is not full -proof as they can show false negatives if there are no symptoms. SHN does not protect others in the home. Whichever the case maybe, there is a chance these returning “residents” could import and spread the virus to others.
