I have a question and I do not know the answer

I have a question and I do not know the answer. I do not pretend that I know the answer too. I appreciate and I am thankful to anybody who can enlighten and educate me.

We expect a recession year in Singapore this year and our gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to contract between minus four to minus one percent. That is even worse than zero percent growth. In better times, pap ministars paid themselves very fat bonuses that many Singaporean workers could only dream of and salivate. They paid themselves different bonuses such as the National Bonus, Performance Bonuses and more.

As a citizen, I ask, in a year such as this current ‘Black Swan Year’, shouldn’t they, those pap ministars more than taking just 3 months of pay cut, also give back to our country some months of their past bonuses as well instead of just keeping quiet and not paying themselves any bonuses only?

Bonuses and credits have not been denied them during past better years and by the same token, shouldn’t the Principle of Equality of Misery be applied this time too? Think.

  • this is how pap steals S$m:

in good market years, when a rising tide lifts all boats, pap says Singapore grew due to pap talent, and paid each other S$m GDP growth bonus.

in bad market years, such as during Wuhan virus, when a sinking tide sinks all boats, pap says Singapore grew bad due to market, and continued to pay each other S$m pap bonus.

WHY not a squeal from anyone in parleement?

those pap folks in parleement participate in the pap scam. all of them part of the den. they keep quiet or face pap whip.

those non pap folks in parleement, too few to amount to much, unable even to table a question past the pap speaker of parleement.

    in the end who suffers?

70% sheep who voted such thieves into power suffers. clap. clap. clap.

The Ministers say they are going to take a 3 months pay cut. Where is the proof? When they pay bonus to themselves do you see it? When they take someone to Court for defamation in the past, it was said that the funds will be given to charity. Have you seen it being done?

The whole area of Ministerial pay and rewards as well as CEO Temasek is shrouded in secrecy and therefore, one can never be sure that what was said publicly was actually carried out. When a person is penalised in Court and made to pay thousands of dollars and that amount is to be given to charity, one would expect to see some charity in Singapore being a recipient of those donations. However, it is difficult to identify any charity having received large sums of funds from any politician who brought defamation cases against others.

So don’t get too carried away, take such pronouncements with a grain of salt. With the PAP, nothing you see is really true in all respects.

So prepare for an early election, as unfair as it would be–to make sure that the next generation of citizens get a better life than you have. Make sure that the PAP knows loud and clear that we are aware of their deceit and opportunist ways–putting themselves first before the people.

    VTO!!

You want ministers to give up more of their pay ah Simon Lim? I hope that isn’t a rheotorical question from you hor.

The excuse will be that they “sacrificed” 3 months of their “hard earned pay” to help the country through this crisis so that should be more than enough.

If you want ministers to give up more of their pay then we will have to vote them out, it’s the only sure way for a minister to give up more of his pay.

So, which minister(s) might join George Yeo and auntie Hwee Hwa drinking kopi at Starbucks after the next GE? East Coast, Marine Parade, Tampines perhaps?

aiyoh ? how come got recession ? open-leg policy got so many FTs also cannot get them to improve gdp or solve recession problem meh ? maybe white idiots should consider having 16.9m to 10m open-leg policy after the crisis so gdp can be better ??

on the side, gdp down or recession means a lot of unemployed people so that bosses have plenty of ‘excess’ manpower to pick and choose (bosses always complain about tightening of labour right) ??? white idiots can save up costs in all the skill upgrade or upskilling bs ???

certain bosses may also go out of business and this also gives them a hard-to-find chance to work and apply their skills as employees this time round since these ex-bosses are very experienced in how to identify / demand good hardworking staff right ??

  • Dear Simon:

    I agree with you.
In the name of care and support budget, PAP give a few hundred dollars to the poor and billions to businesses.
What annoys me is more billions are given to GLCs, like SIA, SembCorp, SembMarine run by PAP cronies, ex-PAP Ministers, ex-Senior Civil Servants.
In the past years, SIA, DBS take up big loans in the name of preference shares and the likes and give out generous dividends benefitting the shareholders like Temasek Holdings.
Now many GLCs are in trouble and Temasek is bailing them out. PAP may say it is not taxpayers money, not our CPF money, but I would like to ask where Temasek gets all the money to bail out SIA, SembMarine and sad to bring up again, DBS, Citibank, UBS (for PAP cronies to get some board seats at these companies, and these companies continuously import humongous number of FTs, DBS CEO is an imported FT, now a Singaporean).
PAP has to support the property companies not just because of Capitaland, Mapletrees companies, but also because PAP Ministers and cronies are heavily invested in properties.
Ask Goh Chok Tong, Lee Hsien Loong how many properties they own!
PAP’s model is make the rich richer, make the rest busy making ends meet, not to create trouble for the rich to become richer.
70% buy it and want to give PAP absolute power to perpetuate PAP’s.
    Sad, very sad.

Reported on TOC Website :Quote – “Hyundai plans to build smart mobility lab in Singapore
The new laboratory will be constructed in the advanced manufacturing hub developed by JTC Corporation in the Jurong Innovation District
Has by Has 2020-03-312 min read
    Photo: liputan6.com….

According to Hyundai Motor (Hyundai) on Tuesday (31 March), an open innovation lab will be built in Singapore in order to develop future mobility technologies so as to facilitate growth into world markets.

The South Korean automaker embarked on this initiative as part of its plan to transform the company into a smart mobility solutions provider.

The new laboratory will be constructed in the advanced manufacturing hub developed by JTC Corporation in the Jurong Innovation District.

The building of the 28,000 square metre Hyundai Mobility Global Innovation Centre will likely commence in May this year with its completion by the second half of 2022. The Singapore Economic Development Board will also support the project.

Hyundai stated that Singapore’s strong track record of open innovation, forward-looking economic policies, strategic location, pro-business environment, and competitive workforce are the contributing factors which made the country an ideal spot for its laboratory.

Prior to creating an automated platform to manufacture smart vehicles, the new laboratory will test out a small-scale electric vehicle production facility.
    ….
By integrating digitalisation, robotics, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence, the platform will substantially lower the needed manpower as well as making automotive plants safer.

Customers will also be allowed to build their vehicles with a larger scope of customisation options through the on-demand production system test that the laboratory will conduct on the platform.

Through the laboratory, Hyundai will also test out last-mile mobility, on-demand shuttle via e-scooters, and multi-modal mobility services.

As a pilot study for Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative, Hyundai stated that it would review a potential collaboration for the project….. “Unquote.

Response :The Singapore Economic Development board will also support the Hyundai project? In what way? Giving them the funds to build the project? Our country presently needs to spend our reserves money and that is over $50,000,000,000!!!! So how much is those over $50,000,000,000 alloted as funds most likely going through an indirect way to help Hyundai pay for such business setup in Singapore? Very fast, all our reserves money will disappear don’t know where and the whole bunch of e*** women wing no need to answer! And neither does that e*** “Malay” President Halimah Yacob need to answer for the funds usage and only know how to spend? Is this the right way to govern the country?

    @ Simon Lim,

I WAITED DELIBERATELY FOR OTHERS TO SPEAK FIRST, before supplying this informational weblink of your question asked of GDP relevance as benchmark for political pay.

5 ways GDP gets it totally wrong as a measure of our success.

    https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/01/gdp-frog-matchbox-david-pilling-growth-delusion/

GDP “SUCCESS” OR ACHIEVEMENT is NOT A MEASURE OF WEALTH CREATION.

HERE ARE SOME SIMPLE MACRO-ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE. The global debt accumulation in both govt and private sector have been running much faster than GDP gain. That means that govt/private sector is borrowing more than what they create. So the govy borrowed $100 to built an airport costs $80, the $80 is thus part of GDP growth statistics – the debt is quietly forgotten and the peasants are taxed to pay for interest and capital repayment. IT IS NOT SUSTAINABLE OVER THE LONG HAUL.

So LEE-jiapore can import more foreigners to build Changi Jewel, shift airfield from paya lebar to changi, port from pasir panjang to tuas and even more sewage plants, and MRT, etc etc, they all beautify GDP numbers in that year of construction, mainly, even if Changi jewel is white elephant and house shifting from Paya lebar, Pasir Panjang are unproductive of outcome and cannot be exported monthly to global consumers unlike cars or washing machine manufacturing etc. And Garden by the Bay is white elephant.

Building more condos and shopping malls are useless in economic downturn now. Property prices according to Bloomberg new is falling and shopping malls are empty of shoppers – the landlord with mortgage are trapped and the developers already made his/her money when the condo/shopping mall were constructed. GDP is just $$$ activity measure of all efforts WITHIN THE DOMESTIC ECONOMY EVEN THOUGH IT MIGHT BE MAINLY FOREIGN OWNED AND WORKERS PAID DIRT WAGES.

SO GDP NUMBERS CAN GROW BUT PEASANTS LIFE GETS HARDER AND HARDER, SHOULD WE REWARD POLITICIANS FOR THIS FAKEY ECONOMY RELYING ON EVER EXPLODING IMPORTATION OF FOREIGN POPULATION?

Where to provide housing, jobs for all, and feed them in a pandemic outbreak?
