Better for people to wear face masks when in a group

It has been established that a person infected with the coronavirus may have no symptoms but can be infectious to others. It is also known that the spread of the virus is enhanced by close personal interaction.

Wearing a face mask is not foolproof in preventing the spread of the virus, but it is considered effective to some extent against a two-way spread. We could take some pointers from the outcome in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Hence, in addition to social distancing, people should be advised to wear masks when they are in a group or a crowd, especially because masks are now more readily available.

On buses and in MRT trains, the 1m distancing is not always possible. In supermarkets and malls, proper social distancing is possible only in the queue for payment.

In terms of the community spread of the disease, comprehensive contact tracing is not possible.

The Government should now advise people to wear masks in any public place, especially when it is crowded.

  • PAPVID-20:

When my daughter needed to see a doctor for a cold a couple of weeks ago, I accompanied her to the clinic. What I saw at the clinic shocked me.

Out of the dozen or so people in the clinic (I don’t know how many are actually patients) only 3 inclusive of my daughter wore mask. As I was without one, I chose to wait outside. Better to be safe than sorry.

Imagine if just one of the lot in the clinic was a Covid-19 carrier, how many would likely have been infected?

When my daughter asked the doc where can she get mask just in case she has to return for another visit, the doc simply told her “It’s out of stock!”

You see, it’s not that people refused to wear mask but the fact is MASK IS OUT OF STOCK! We’re helpless and we’ve no choice even when we’re with a group of sick people.

Subsequently when I passed by the clinic, I still see less than a handful in the clinic (out of at least 10) wearing mask only.

So, is the shortage of mask part of the reason the community spread in sg is increasing? Of coz, our pap govt is not telling us.

@Dr. Ong; your advice is too late. In fact 2 months late. We are now already in “lockdown”, oops circuit breaker.

If covid-19 taskforce believed in wearing mask, instead of mask up only when unwell, we might have avoid this circuit breaker.

The best moronic advice was from Minister Khaw, “not to talk in public transport to minimise saliva flying” since social distancing is not possible.

Our ministers are all paid in million dollars, but their decisions were all based on 3rd parties’. Ironically, those 3rd party advises usually from people with a lot lesser remuneration. We even paid $750K for accolades just to justify our ministers’ decision.

I don’t know if our 70% still want to pay these people in the coming GE.

In view of so many local cases now,may be better to enforce wearing of surgical masks.Rewashable masks may not be that effective to reduce the spread.
Surgical masks should be more effective.
We should mobilized our national resources to produce Surgical masks quickly in Singapore on a urgent basis like China.
Lets get the line running in 7 days instead of 1 month.

Reported on Straits Times website :Quote – “Lim Guan Eng’s son not arrested in S’pore: KL police
    PUBLISHEDMAR 15, 2020, 5:00 AM SGT
    ….
KUALA LUMPUR • Malaysian police chief Abdul Hamid Bador has denied allegations that the son of former finance minister Lim Guan Eng has been detained in Singapore.

He said that Mr Lim’s son is in Singapore but he has not been arrested or detained by the authorities there.

“It is definitely not true. We have not got any report that his son was detained in Singapore. This is definitely fake news being spread,” said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid when contacted yesterday.

He added that Mr Lim’s son is not under investigation by the Malaysian authorities either.

“We will investigate who is spreading such fake news. We will get to the bottom of the matter,” Tan Sri Abdul Hamid said.

Chinese-language newspaper Nanyang Siang Pau had earlier reported that the child of a “senior Pakatan Harapan leader” had allegedly been nabbed after he attempted to take RM2 million (S$660,000) into Singapore without proper verification.

Controversial blog Malaysia Today later quoted the Nanyang article and alleged that the young man involved was Mr Lim’s son…. “Unquote.

Response :Singapore Police Force side handling this case has not yet denied that
there is some child of a “Senior Pakatan Harapan” leader allegedly been nabbed for a criminal act of after a RM 2 million (S$660,000) brought into Singapore without proper verification and this child is being pointed at by one Nanyang article to be Mr Lim Guan Eng’s son. Obviously, without doubt that the huge amount of S$660,000 is brought into Singapore in cash and not by cheque. If by cheque, there is no uproar or no case. By Singapore law, as far as I understand that the maximum limit of cash brought into Singapore has a maximum limit and this amount should not be more than $30,000 in cash. If more than $30,000, may be treated as money laundering to be charged by law. And this case is reported out more than two weeks ago, can Singapore Authority report out whether Lim Guan Eng’som is the person involved and if so, and why the police public prosecutor failed to charge him out for suspicious activity that may include suspicious money laundering. Two weeks is more than enough time for the public ptosecutor to take action and S$660,000 is not a small amount! Our Singapore law clearly has been violated, can there be no charges? And why is Straits Times not reporting this event further? Is the S$660,000 brought in to buy all our masks for corona virus, who knows? Is this case already closed shop without any further action needed to be taken when the amount is highlighted as S$660,000?

As governments in the West wrestle with guidance on face masks, many living in Asia have been diligently wearing them for months since the start of the crisis. And there is evidence that widespread use has led to greater success in infection control. CNN’s Kristie Lu Stout reports.

It has, from the beginning of the report of the COVID-19 report in the middle of January 2020, that I have been wearing a mask from my retention of the masks which I sometimes put on when I had running nose, and that I restrict myself from going out unnecessarily.

It is the height of stupidity with serious consequences that the emperor without clothes had discouraged sinkies from wearing mask saying that the wearing of mask offers NO protection in getting infected………when doctors and nurses at the hospitals and polyclinics have been wearing mask almost all along.

Now you know why I call him the emperor without clothes……simply he is NOT fit to be the PM.

    1. If you wear contact lenses, switch to glasses for a while.
    2. Wearing glasses may add a layer of protection.
    3. Stock up on eye medicine prescriptions if you can.
    4. Avoid rubbing your eyes.

If you feel an urge to itch or rub your eye or even to adjust your glasses, use a tissue instead of your fingers. Dry eyes can lead to more rubbing, so consider adding moisturizing drops to your eye routine. If you must touch your eyes for any reason — even to administer eye medicine — wash your hands first with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

So, no need for safe distancing on buses and trans because it’s difficult?

What kind of stupid thinking this is.

Then there is another silly statement that if you are doing strenuous exercise, you don’t have to wear a mask! After telling everyone must wear mask if you go outside!

This is where all the spread is occurring!

You wonder why we are reporting more than a thousand cases each day for 4 days straight!
