How should citizens rate the performance of the Multi-ministry Task Force so far?

Has the Multi-ministry Task Force succeeded in its national mission to protect people’s lives or is it game over?

When the Multi-ministry Task Force was set up on 22 Jan 2020, comprising 10 members including the majority of the 4G leadership with Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat as Advisor, “some observers see (it) as a major test handling a national challenge.”

With Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s announcement yesterday: “Singapore to shut workplaces and schools to curb spike in virus cases,” (ST4-4-20), how should we, the citizens, rate the performance of this team of political leaders so far?

I have said in the early days when the Task Force was set up, it looks like a People’s Action Party (PAP) political platform to showcase its leaders in preparation for General Election 2020. Based on the outcome of their work, which should be outstanding, Singaporeans are expected to give them a clear mandate for another five years, isn’t it?

That’s why the PAP government is talking about the possibility and feasibility of holding a GE even in the midst of a virus pandemic. The 4G leaders are that confident of themselves.

Till now, we can see that all the measures and decisions taken are led by politicians. My fear has been that they see their work in the Task Force as more political (good public image to please voters) and economic (to protect the economy) than public health.

After 3 months into the game, PM Lee tried to explain the reason for the Health Advisory “Do not wear a mask if you are well” based on WHO and US infectious diseases experts’ advice and now change to “the government will no longer discourage people from wearing masks, and will distribute reusable ones to all households, as there is now some evidence of asymptomatic transmission of COVID-19.”

In fact, the risk of “silent carriers” who are infected but show no symptoms during the early stage of incubation period, infecting people around them, is widely known. I have referred to an article in Guardian dated 12-3-20 which reported a study conducted on clusters in Singapore and Tianjin to show infections passed on by people without symptoms.

Again it’s a political move, like the earlier exercise to give 4 masks per household, to deploy the RCs, CCCs and possibly PA volunteers in another big exercise to give one reusable mask per person. This is so unnecessary and unproductive which can be avoided if only the Task Force did not make a tactical error in the Health Advisory.

As at 3 April, there were 65 new cases bringing the total infections to 1114 and six deaths including one today. Compare this to 226 cases of infections on 15 March and we can see how serious the pandemic has become in Singapore.

Finally, the Task Force is going to implement more drastic measures of shutting down workplaces and schools “to act as circuit breaker” and will run from 7 April to 4 May.

If the circuit breakers are deployed, it clearly shows that there is some faulty wiring or equipment in our house.

Yet, the shut down in Singapore must not be seen as a “lockdown” because essential services are still running. Also , Singapore is still in Dorscon Orange, NOT RED. This Dorscon table is like a management tool which means little to the people.

If we look at the Dorscon table attached, under the “Advice to public” section, only in the RED column that “Practise social distancing and avoid crowded areas” is mentioned.

In reality, Singapore is already in Dorscon RED though the member politicians can’t admit it for fear of losing face.

If the member politicians are truly focused on safeguarding public health, to put Singapore under Dorscon RED is the correct thing to do so the people understand that their safety and health is under severe threat by the virus.

How do PM Lee and the Task Force come to this precarious and politically undesirable position where they have to eat their own words and lose political capital in having to insist that “the outbreak remains under control” but must now shut down all schools and most work places and people are no longer discouraged from wearing masks in public places.

The Task Force and its members have collectively brought Singapore’s public health to the edge of a cliff because they have prioritised politics and economics over public health of the people in Singapore by only taking incremental steps (like closing tuition centres and enrichment classes) and calibrating the measures to make them look like “sweeping measures” when we know that they are too fearful for bold measures that may shake the economy or even threaten their political career.

So the people have to pay the price for the weakness of the Task Force in managing a pandemic which threatens the lives and livelihoods of our people.

Since the PAP government is adamant in pushing through the GE 2020 (based on news reports) when they are not even able to slow down the local transmissions or “flatten the curve”, so to speak, we Singaporeans must decide if they are worthy of our votes and to give them a clear mandate again for another 5 years to rule as they like.

Mind you, they still have a clear and strong mandate obtained in GE2015 and it is fair that we expect them to complete the most important task on the national agenda- that is, to protect and keep Singaporeans safe from the pandemic. This task is not yet complete.

Stay HOME, keep SAFE.

This pandemic has very clearly shown and/or proven to us the calibre of PAP’s vaunted 4G. Even the current 3G has been shown very clearly.

We started off by having a few cases per day with no deaths reported. But because PAP are tidak apa and cannot give a damn their good for nothing PM hinted at an election. Perhaps heaven was watching but before he could officially confirm the election the number of cases shot up and we have 4 deaths in a single week, I repeat, 4 DEATHS IN A SINGLE WEEK.

Now, no one has asked why are we having so many cases all of a sudden and PAP won’t dare to answer anyway. All this shows that PAP didn’t give a damn when cases were low and just any old how let anyone in at the borders as long as they cleared the temperature screening.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that a few of these buggers who were let in spread the virus while showing no symptoms. All of a sudden we have clusters macham everywhere on the island.

So you can write all the nice stories about your 4G good for nothings but this pandemic has shown that NONE of these clowns are of any good.

Need to do more…too many local cases.
Not sure rewashable masks will help.
Better to stick to Surgical masks as it will likely be more effective.
Should have produce our own surgical masks by now…
    Need to learn from China.

  • Pink Alert?:

Why is the daily report/update still showing imported cases from Malaysia and elsewhere? Isn’t there an entry ban on Malaysian workers to SG since the lock-down, or are they still allowed to come in and out to work. The latest update shows an increase from the day before, and a significant number of them are foreigners from a particular country or region. Why is this so?

  • Pink Alert?:

If this were a real war, by the time the generals and captains finished reviewing their plans, the enemy would have over-run the country. Isn’t there something in Sun Tzu’s “Art of War” about speed in warfare? Covid-19 is an invisible “enemy” that is sweeping across countries while they are still reviewing the issue of wearing masks. Haha!

How to citizens should rate the performance of the poor performaners?

    1. Cannot Take Pressure:

One Chair cries too easily under duress. This is a sign of immaturity and inability to take pressure.

    2. Incompetence and No Leadership:

Another Chair only knows how to make himself look rosy and chubby. MOH has made so many blunders, yet the fat ass has refused to accept responsibility. This is incompetence and lack of leadership.

    3. Reactive, Not Proactive:

The whole Tasked-And-Forced Team has elected themselves to become Monitors that keep monitoring the situation in order to REACT, not ACT. In either words, they are Reactionaries. Reactive, not Pro-active. This is definitely (99%) caused by being followers, not leaders, all their life. Taking orders from the dictatorship’s Chief Gangho all the time.

    4. Too Slow To React:

While Tasked-And-Forced Team is always two steps behind the COVID-19 corona-virus. The virus is smarter than the world-class Charlie Chaplins, who are always too slow to even react. Yet they think that they are very smart and always tried to outsmart the smarts COVID-19 corona-virus. Irony of irony. Great Court Jesters in Victorian Time.

    5. No Common Sense:

Right from the very Top Hancho to the Grasslooters, the whole gang is devoid of COMMON SENSE. That’s why they depended on DR WHO’s evil advice to encourage and brain-wash the public “NOT TO WEAR MASKS IF YOU ARE WELL! WEAR MASKS ONLY WHEN YOU ARE UNWELL!”

Really unbelievable! How can top Cambridge and Ivy League Scholars be so stupid? Why Taiwan, Vietnam and Japan have so low casualties from the COVID-19 attacks? Because they traditionally wear masks to protect themselves against dusts, germs, smells, and viruses! Common sense, don’t need advice of all the arm-chair researchers who called themselves ‘experts” who usually double-talk to cover their own asses – either way the wind blows, they are always right.

Common sense tells us that the COVID-19 virus, or any microbe, can only enter our human body through the orifices – anus, peehole, vagina, mouth, nose, eyes and ears, and open wounds. So, if we cover up all these orifices and open wounds, we block all the entrances of the virus. This is how the 11 Million Wuhan people, the Taiwanese, the Vietnamese and the Japanese protect themselves so as to minimise the spread of the COVID-19 corona-virus!

That’s why our ancestors said: “The more booksmart you are, the more common sense you lost!”

    6. Flip-flopping King:

The whole government, led by an indecisive leader, has been flip-flopping all the way. Only until tons of feedbacks from the ground, then it starts to move in the right direction, exactly like Trump The Trumpet! Only when the situation is getting inevitably untenable, when the coffins are closing in, then and only then the Empress Dowager starts to tell them to wear masks! To lock-down for a period of time and break the circuits of the circus, after going round in circles. Three months wasted!

    Result: F

Supposedly, during world war 2, the British put a big gun on Sentosa, expecting the Japanese to attack by sea. But they came from the north by bicycles. So the British surrendered.

Fast forward to 2020, the dynasty take out all the thermometers, expecting the enemy to show up with high fever. “Be calm. Stay united. We are ready. We are prepared.”

But this enemy very sneaky. Half show fever. Half never show fever.

The dynasty catch those with fever, declare victory.

Meanwhile, the enemy is already everywhere in the dynasty.

And the most glaring part? This enemy had, many weeks ago, failed in a similar sneak attack on a country up north. That country already announced all the various sneaky attacks used by this enemy, and the ways they use to counter attack successfully.

But the dynasty relies on outdated strategy. “Be calm. We have thermometers. We are prepared. The people trust us.”

  • John Richards:

I think task force has performed poorly and indecisively because their hands were tied. PM probably set very restrictive parameters within which they had to contain the virus. I believe he instructed them to not have a lockdown. Economy took priority over health and safety.

They learned nothing from SARS despite all the talk about being better prepared. Weak leadership has led to weak decisions and poor advice.

Elections? They deserve to have that circuit breaker up their asses.

Hi Uncle Lye, long time never see you post! Hope you are doing fine.

I told my dad that one does not have to tell people he cannot make it, his actions will let everyone judge for themselves. I want to see PAP call for the election now since they think they are doing ok on this pandemic. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one having a negative impression of PAP on the way they are handling this pandemic.

Good also lah, let the whole nation see for themselves just what kind of a government we have got. The type that reacts only when a situation is beyond normal containment measures and resorts to trickery by not daring to call it Dorscon RED but coming up with a useless term instead.
