Why Singapore Seems Better than New York or London: Refuting PAP Propaganda

Now that we are into the hustings period, one of the common tropes in favour of the PAP we will be hearing are those from returning exchange students from Europe and the West or those who worked there for a substantive period, talking of how terrible things are in the West and how we should be grateful to the PAP for the things we have and see in Singapore today. This article is written to refute this line and argument.

I would agree that conditions in big Western cities, such as Los Angeles, New York, Manchester, Barcelona, London, San Francisco, Paris or Washington D.C. may not be in as good a condition as Singapore and there are parts of these cities that feel unsafe, in part, because of liberal immigration policies by liberal/Left-wing or Left leaning governments that sought to import in non-Western migrants, in the name of multiculturalism (which is cultural nihilism at heart), some of whom are from war torn countries torn apart by violent ideologies, and some of these migrants bring in these violent ideologies or form criminal gangs that make parts of these big Western cities unsafe, as well as corruption and mismanagement to certain degrees.

But at the same time, the comparison of the state of these Western cities to Singapore is also, to some or to a large extent, a flawed, and an apple-to-orange comparison. Firstly, Singapore is much smaller than an average European big city. Singapore is 719 km2 in size while London is 1572 km2, New York is 783 km2 and Los Angeles is 1302 km2. This means that these cities will always be harder to manage, especially in terms of crime and security, than Singapore and especially so, given that these cities do not have the geographical advantage that Singapore has – Singapore is located on an island with much fewer entry points, and this makes her easier to police and monitor who enters and exits, and this also applies to smaller cities such as Paris and Washington D.C.

Also, there are other cities in the West that are clean with crime rates that are low too, such as Zurich, Vienna, Copenhagen, Prague and Munich, and cities in Asia, such as Seoul, Busan and Taipei which are able to keep their crime rates low without having to resort to illiberal policies the PAP implemented, such as requiring permits to start a newspaper, POFMA, contempt of court laws where the judiciary is often treated as an entity that is above criticism as well as low bars in determining defamation. Furthermore, many of these overseas Singaporeans, who trope out pro-PAP lines after their experiences overseas, barely venture out of well-known Western cities, such as New York City, to cities ran by Republican mayors, such as San Diego and Fort Worth, who are again able to keep crime rates low without implementing any of the PAP’s illiberal policies, or out of London and Manchester to cities such as Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle or Southampton, which also have low crime rates.

Another problem in the line of argument by these overseas Singaporeans is that they are basing their arguments on the line which many Singaporeans have been indoctrinated into – that Singapore is the perfect/near perfect country/city (to the point of a cult created around it) and hence the idea that Western cities by default, should be “better heavens” than Singapore. Unfortunately, this train of thought is flawed, as if Singapore is indeed the “perfect/near perfect city”, there wouldn’t be the need for the PAP to indoctrinate this train of thought via most public schools and the social studies textbooks, which is the only subject with a textbook written personally by the MOE, through their Curriculum Planning and Development Division, and containing only the PAP’s narratives and point of view on issues while sequestering all other point of views on the topic in question, especially if they don’t toe the PAP line. I think this is a shameful use of taxpayers’ money that Opposition parties need to hold the PAP to account for in the hustings and beyond, as taxpayers, especially those in their 40s and above, pay taxes with the understanding that the tax dollars are paid to give people like myself a better future through education, and not to be used to develop curriculums designed for the partisan political ends of the PAP.

Furthermore, much of this indoctrination happens in a school environment where most of the time, authoritarianism is systemic and inherent. How can a society be considered perfect or near perfect when most students have to spend at least much of their 6 good childhood years (Pri 1-6) , at the very least, living in a culture of fear daily, only to reap the consequences of growing up in a culture of fear later in their adult lives? Also, the line of Singapore being the “perfect society” does not explain why there is a brain drain from Singapore based on reasons explained as “sociopolitical” (LINK). As a matter of fact, so long as we will fall sick and die one day, need a police force to protect us and need to continually upgrade ourselves, we are never perfect or even near perfect and this applies to Western cities too.

To end off, there is this story in the Bible, in Mark 10:17-18, when a person came up to Jesus, calling Him good. Jesus replied this person, asking, why did he call Him (Jesus) good, when only God is good? I think this reply by Jesus is pretty instructive on how we should look at the PAP and their line that Singapore is the “perfect/near perfect” society, or the idea that a perfect society here on Earth exists.

Compare how Sg and HK people respond when approached by media to common public issues.

HK people can readily give impromptu responses without hesitation, coherent and thoughtful, both positive and negative.

On the other hand, sinkies ee ee ah ah, typically one or two words, it’s ok, nice. Practically zero opinion on the issue.

We have so many $millions edu millisters from botak, big nose tch, bugeye heng to ong bak goon. Our so called first world education produce graduates who cannot think on their own two feet.

    Really sad and pathetic!

I LIVED YEARS IN PERTH, my residence is NEVER EVER locked of front door nor back exit – nothing happened. I walked the streets in Shanghai past 2 am in the morning from internet cafe to my residence, nothing happened. I was once robbed at knife point in Sydney by a pack of youth of South Asian origin, probably run out of their luck and money, desperate and could be out of employment on student visa.

Crime can be managed by tough laws – but a country mismanaged of its political institutions is what Dr Chee said correctly – a country stolen. Those who lives in liberal political cultures don’t understand this. Or they party on, ignoring the risks/damage to peasants of dictatorship.

And of course, an economy mismanaged will always be buffeted by raging turbulence outside and in the words of Indranee Rajah hit “by a wrecking ball”. Such dilapidated economic architecture and engineering surviving on exploitation of cheap foreign labor risks sudden death collapse just like a heart attack when the pandemic hit.

PAPpypolitics/PAPpynomics has no monopoly of information, knowledge and wisdom any more than the hypocritical Mao’s China. History will remember how many millions died of starvation in the Cultural Revolution oppression. There is no such precedent in liberal democracy.

The 70% dumbfarked idiots had better wake up. After the spend of $100 billion of bail out of failed economy and momentary relief for peasants until election date only, hundreds of thousands could be retrenched. PAPpy gods which these idiots have been in a life time worshipping as if they are divine won’t be around to hand them their bread and butter AFTER THE ELECTION IS OVER.

REMEMBER THIS – PUBLIC HOUSING SCAM AND CPF ARE ALL BACK DOOR TAX PAPpypolitics/PAPpynomics have stolen of peasant’s retirement subsistence and its asset enhancement politics is the mother of all scams invented.

THE PEASANTS WHO THINK PAPpy gods will look after them are all living in LA-LA-LAND.

  • Sinful nation:

The one who has great possession is the rich and none is as rich as your govt who preside over your life or your death.
The world is not created for the rich or all power/profit should be vested in the rich but the reality in the world is that the rich rules in every nation.
Since it was never by design the rich should rule over or oppress the poor forever, a day of reckoning shall come when the high shall be brought down and the lowly shall be lifted.

The rich, all rich govt hemled by men, aspires to perperuate their power and wealth( their idea of eternity). In the books, or doctrines, of the rich, good people and leaders should be deserving of wealth and power – that’s the PAP mantra: putting your faith in good people, leaders and ultimately in the hands of one Man(lky).

So when the rich met the figure Jesus, they saw such a leader – a good man, like LKY, worthy to sit at the top of the temple, the House of God, and be God.

Well, as i had said, it was never meant to be and anyone claiming to be “good” , who enters into the House of the lords, and reign supreme in the House will ultimately be humbled or brought down low(empires have risen and fallen throughout man’s history) – the entire nation will siffer/tribulation/ destruction as a consequence.

Every political party who challenges the incumbent comes with their “good people or leaders”

Jesus said, don’t call me good(don’t look at me as the leader seated at the pinnacle of the temple in the House of the lords) there is none gpod, or worthy, except God( taking back his throne) is worthy

No one had understood that and certainly not the idolatrous and religious church divided scattered all over the land because when they see Jesus they saw a ” saviour” or a king liken to a man king, and became idolatrous.

    Oh how wrong and damning.

You will continue in the course of damnation if the people of God continue in idolatry(misleading and deceiving millions) because to them is given the keys to the kingdom.

They need to come out of idolatry and seek God’s kingdom, and the keys to the kingdom, instead of seeking themselves/blessings(being good, like god, by faith or sanctification and by promises rubbish) in idolatry(seeing Jesus as an Idol or a returning king) through church services by shepherd who are sinning against god wearing the robe of authority in the “house of God”.

Again, who is Jesus? If you had been led to believe in the rapture and meeting him in the sky soon or one day, you have been misled, by “good people”, and do not know…Jesus nor know salvation.

The book of the prophets is about the salvation of nations, not about you or your personal indulgences in spiritualism and supernaturalism(that’s why the world mock your irrationality or blindness)

It seems that this remains the main explanation. As such, this habit of blindly sticking to one’s party affiliation, irrespective of the ideas and personal qualities (or lack thereof) of the specific party, is a major flaw of our electoral system.

Yes, it isn’t just political leanings; it’s also adherency to people of their own tribe, made a pact with the devil and chose party loyalty over conscience and no one wants to ostracize themselves from their social circle.

This is more about using a tool of limited validity to make political points. It is a much different living environment in NYC where the typical person is shoe horned into subways, packed onto sidewalks and generally has little personal space vs living even in a large city in the south that is much more spread out and private. Those environmental differences may lead to behavioral & attitudinal differences.

Who’s to say it won’t work again?” But there is quite a bit of evidence that many personality dimensions have an inherited component like privilege to study overseas. So unless one is going to posit that people’s personality traits lead them to settle in various areas of the world, it is difficult to make a case that personality dimensions some how differ by region.

All the social science in the world will not explain a PAP voter much less an overseas Singaporean.

Put it this way lah, when something is bad PAP will pick on other countries that have it far worse to make it look better. A simple example is the crowdedness on the trains in the morning and evening. We all know there isn’t much space for us but ST compared us to both HK and Japan and saying we have more room than those 2 places.

In the first place we don’t have much distance between ourselves since we are already packed like sardines so we already are feeling uncomfortable. Comparing it to others to make us feel better isn’t going to help because we aren’t in HK or Tokyo’s trains to feel the squeeze.

Same for Covid. Once this is all over PAP will conveniently pick countries with very high infection and death rates to compare just how “minor” ours are. Never mind that there have been over 40k infections so far, this is “minor” compared to several hundred thousands elsewhere.

PAP won’t ever dare compare to gold standard places such as Taiwan, HK and New Zealand since this would put them in an extremely negative light.

    ” The ‘Quasi-Intellectual’ Sheeple:

My favorite kind of sheeple. These people hold themselves in very high esteem. Some even see themselves as part of the elite (though most of them are not). Normally from the “professional class”, they often hold positions as Doctors, Lawyers, Bankers, Investors, Professors, Scientists, etc, though some have not yet left the university setting, and are simply getting a head start on their superiority complex.

Quasi-Intellectual Sheeple believe in the world of academia as unerring, as opposed to true scholars, who always have the wisdom to question the conclusions of academia. To me, an Ivy League degree is little more than a $100,000 piece of paper; it tells me nothing of the true intelligence of the person holding it.

At bottom, most “higher education” is really indoctrination. People attaining degrees in economics learn what the financial establishment WANTS them to learn, and nothing more. The same goes for any other field of study in which information is extremely centralized and filtered. Yet, Quasi-Intellectual Sheeple have such misplaced faith in the ivory tower that they assume through the system they have reached the pinnacle of knowledge.

This type of sheeple is driven by the desire for respect, power, and sometimes sycophantic admiration. Actually being intelligent is less important to them than having others believe they are intelligent without question. When asked to prove their intelligence, they often respond with indignance.

Quasi-Intellectual Sheeple are easy to identify by their arrogant demeanor. They tend to distance themselves from FOX and CNN and read periodicals like Forbes and Foreign Affairs, which are still propaganda, just of a more complex nature. They respond to most arguments with a smile, due to overconfidence, until they realize they are being soundly outmatched, and then they tend to lose composure. It takes a lot of public embarrassment before they will mend their ways.”

How to counter the gradual narrowing of our horizons.

“Keep your baby eyes (which are the eyes of genius) on what we don’t know,” pioneering investigative journalist Lincoln Steffens wrote in a beautiful 1926 letter of life-advice to his baby son. And yet the folly of the human condition is precisely that we can’t know what we don’t know — as E.F. Schumacher elegantly put it in his guide for the perplexed, “everything can be seen directly except the eye through which we see.” What obscures those transformative unknowns from view are the unconscious biases that even the best-intentioned of us succumb to.

In Willful Blindness: Why We Ignore the Obvious at Our Peril (public library), serial entrepreneur and author Margaret Heffernan examines the intricate, pervasive cognitive and emotional mechanisms by which we choose, sometimes consciously but mostly not, to remain unseeing in situations where “we could know, and should know, but don’t know because it makes us feel better not to know.” We do that, Heffernan argues and illustrates through a multitude of case studies ranging from dictatorships to disastrous love affairs to Bernie Madoff, because “the more tightly we focus, the more we leave out” — or, as cognitive scientist Alexandra Horowitz put it in her remarkable exploration of exactly what we leave out in our daily lives, because “attention is an intentional, unapologetic discriminator.”

The lockdown would have been survivable if the economy hadn’t been over-indebted, over-leveraged, burdened by insanely high costs, stripmined by greedy monopolies, dependent on stock market fraud, destabilized by extreme inequality, corrupted by political pay-to-play and addicted to speculation.

Understand the fact that inflation is actually another form of tax.

    Quote,

“Picture asking “Why We Pay Taxes When They Can Just Print Money?”
    …………………………………

Government will collect money from us to fund its obligation in only two ways: 1st: Tax and 2nd: Inflation. Vast majority of people tend to misunderstand that only way government can collect revenue is through 1st way: taxation. However, this is simply not true. In fact, tax is not main source of how government funds its obligation. Main source of this is option #2: through inflation.
    …………………………..

Therefore, Government loves 2nd option: “Inflation = Money Printing” to finance their deficit since only few people understand inflation (Ordinary people can’t see this) and government can get away with most of people by tricking with this method.

Although it appears that second option is harmless to the people because they don’t have to pay more taxes, price of everything will eventually go up since there will be much more currency in circulation after they print money. These two methods will eventually lead to same outcome: People won’t be able to afford as much.

Now you understand there are two methods for government to collect (Steal??) our money and here is my answer to this very question on the picture. My answer to this is:

Tax is just a smoke screen. If government does not tax people, public will suspect where the heck all those money come from. Very last thing government wants people to understand is the fact that inflation is actually another form of tax. Government is afraid that they can no longer trick public easily if public of you and I understand the fact that inflation is another and most insidious form of taxation…

This is the reason why government never shares this to the public since continuity of the government depends on ignorance of public. As long as public of you and I don’t understand such topics as economics, finance and money, government will continue to get away with most of its wrong doing by simply taking advantage of our ignorance. And, believe me…

“What the central banks cannot do is create productive places to invest the credit they’ve generated in such excess, or force qualified borrowers to swallow more unproductive debt.
    ………………………….

Saving imploding private-sector banks was no problem for central banks that could create $1 trillion in new money with the push of a button and offer essentially unlimited lines of credit to banks facing a liquidity crunch.

But the current financial meltdown is not like the last war. Central banks are ready to extend unlimited credit again to private-sector financial institutions, but this time around, the problem won’t be a lack of liquidity.
    …………………….

The global economy is choking not just on an excess of debt, it’s also choking on the consequences of an unprecedented mal-investment of the credit central banks have issued in such over-abundance.

Issuing more credit will only make the 2016 crash worse.
