Mayors of Singapore

I have never paid so much attention to the appointees of our Prime Minister than this year. What shocked me was the appointment of 37 officials (including the PM) in his new cabinet.

The PAP won 83 out of 93 seats this general election. A cabinet of 37 officials is 44.6% of elected PAP candidates. I woke up from my slumber.

There are five mayors on our little island of 721.5 sq kilometres with a population of 5.7 million. Do we really need five mayors in addition to 93 members of parliament?

New York and London has only one mayor and each serves a population of more or a little less than the whole of Singapore.

What are the duties of Singapore mayor?
According to Community Development Council (CDC), “The Office of the Mayors in Singapore serves the residents in the five districts. Each district is helmed by a mayor, each of whom also serves as a Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC) in a particular district.”

Isn’t this a duplication of the work of a member of parliament who has to look after his constituents? And isn’t every mayor already a member of parliament? Why do we need to create this glorious title of Mayor with no additional duties but at humongous costs?

How much is a mayor paid?
A mayor’s minimum annual salary is $660,000. To this salary, we should add the salary of a member of parliament which is $192,500 per annum. The monthly salary of a mayor is, therefore, a minimum of about $71,000. This is near twice the salary of New Zealand’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern who earns just $35,800 a month. And New Zealand has a population of 4.886 million. If Singapore’s 5.7 million population is divided by 5, each mayor “takes care” of 1.14 million people.

The prime minister is answerable to the people of Singapore.

How can he justify his astronomical salary of $2.2 million a year and those that surround him? Has he a conscience?

The Leader of the Opposition, Pritam Singh is giving away half his allowance. Should not the PM, Dy PM, 2 Senior Ministers, 3 Ministers in PMO, 5 Mayors, 4 Ministers of State, Parliamentary secretaries etc voluntarily cut their humongous salaries by at least 60%?

The PM should have a leaner team in these difficult times and not expand his cabinet just to feel comfortable and secure. Despite the huge number of officials he surrounds himself, it will be difficult to see the economy of Singapore grow within the next one or two years.

High salaries must be matched by high performance if we follow the PAP past assurance. If the cabinet is not able to produce extraordinary results, they should be sensitive to the rest of the population who are facing very challenging times.

  • Taxpayer money is easy:

Lai eh, lai eh, all come eat, free.

By the way, please don’t insult the PM by saying his salary is $2.2 million. This is fake salary.

His total pay from taxpayer money should be a lot higher. Perhaps a few times.

PM bonus, no idea how much.
GIC chairman, you think this has zero remuneration?
PM pension, no idea how many million a year.

Total of $50 million will not be too surprising, if TH CEO is rumoured at $100 million.

These must be some of the most invisible mayors in the entire world. We have no idea what are their unique responsibilities. In most places mayors are elected to that position, not appointed. This is a strange but truly Singaporean appointment. Just like the elected appointed President. If this a drain on public monies it should be eliminated. If it is a real position then let them be elected as people free of political affiliation, at least nominally. Otherwise they can’t claim to represent anything.

  • BIG FATCAT:

The BIGFAT-TOMCAT is happily feeding its FATCATS; oblivious to the horrendous suffering of the lower animals in the community.

THE BIGFAT-TABBYCAT is even much, much, more selfserving; happily milking away the community’s coffer to the point of bankruptcy.

Yet, not a single soul dares to put to a stop to all these nonsensical, manipulative acts done in the open. What more of those that are done in absolute secrecy.

Well, well. The skeletons in the cabinet are dying to fall out of it. And the BIGFATCAT will, sooner or later, be forced to get out of the BIGBAG. It could be much sooner than one could imagine.

One can have a Eastcoast, a together, a Westcost plan.

This is one of the many ways to provide every PAP’s MP a cookie jar. This way no one would say they are dipping into the cookie jar. These cookie jars are always fully filled with cookies from the taxpayers.

We not only do not need any mayor, we don’t need so many MPs and Ministers.

How much the country could save if we reduced the number of MPs and Ministers??

It is irresponsible to use public funds (built-up by tax payers) to pay hefty some of moneys to these 5 so-called Mayors In each of the constituencies there are alrdy an elected MPs who are paid MP allowances, and on top of this, those holding political offices (about 37, I think)they receive the biggest pays up to 2 mllion$$$ starting from the Emperor. I think these are greedy people with money faces. In future, they may add another greedy titles to serve more MIWs, i.e. Deputy Mayors.

CDC mayors and mayoritas, dont you see out there, so many pseudo-beggars under the guise of tissue packet sellers?

Shouldn’t you go all out to eradicate beggary and pseudo-beggary in your ‘counties’ instead of indulging your ‘goodselves’ in counting sheep all day and night?

Yet, for decades they turn a blind eye on this pathetic ‘trade’ carried out in the open where there is crowd: MRT stations, shopping malls and market places, etc…

That’s how efficient these so-called mayors and mayoritas carry out their duties. And mind you, for decades!

    Shame, Shame, Shame!

It is ridiculously inconceivable to even have one Mayor in a city state Singapore, let alone we now have so many. In addition to elected MPs, what does a Mayor serve ? Do we really need such Mayors ? In other countries, Mayors are also elected. How come we did not see such election here ? So PAP’s guys are scratching each others’ back. This time is you, next round will be me. Let us take turn to squeeze more $$$ from the people….
