Rapid Transit System between SG and JB will be ready by 2026

Many people are cheering that the RTS is going ahead and will be ready by 2026.

They should not be cheering. They should be cursing.

Why?

It will take any five years, maybe longer, before the travel time can be reduced.

But the insane ministers on both sides of the causeway has the means to reduce the travel time, significantly, now, in 2020. Actually, they could have reduced it several years ago.

How?

They could have introduced combined clearance at one end, rather than both ends. A visitor needs to be checked at the point of departure.

They can be checked with a shared computer system that links to both immigration authorities. Or, the two authorities can place their checkpoints in the same building at the point of departure.

There is no need to have two separate queues. There is no need to disemark and embark on the bus two times for each journey.

They can increase the frequency of the KTM train service. If they get an efficiency expert, they will find that the frequency and capacity can be increased by five times. This is my estimate.

They can set a reasonable fare for the journey. RM 5 is okay. SGD 5 is too much.

We need sane ministers on both sides of the causeway. I think the insanity is higher on the SG side. I don’t know why. I suspect that the level of insanity increases with the pay.

  • That's it!:

This is the best ever post by TKL. Credit is given where it is due.

Why the two sides cannot come to such a simple, time-saving arrangement with very minimal additional costs incurred is a big question mark.

They can just build a station opposite Kranji MRT and a sheltered overhead link between the two stations so commuters can enjoy a short walk which is much less tiring.

And it would take barely 12 months or shorter to have everything set up in full operation without much inonvenience and disruption.

The cost-benefit effect is certainly much greater than the RTS.

  • REGIME CHANGE is the solution:

Straits Times: GE2020 showed Singapore at ‘inflexion point’: Goh Chok Tong

TRUE. GE2020 is indeed an “inflexion point” (i.e, turning point) in local politics. Going forward PAP wil continue to lose voters support and there will more Opposition MPs in Parliament. After using fear and billions of reserves for “pandemic support” PAP, nonetheless, lost 10% support from voters. All, except 2, PAP candidates lost voters’ support. More Singaporeans realize the value of having a significant opposition in Parliament. This trend will continue because PAP will never change because of hubris.

BTW, where is the Swiss Standard of Living promised by Woody Goh. Why was it not mentioned in his book “Tall Order”? Why did he not mention in the book his other FAILURES as PM?

  • Let us look at it this way:

if pap gives you a lemon, make lemonade at pap expense.

everything is cheaper in JB, from medicine to women.

when the rail is up and running, non sheep citizens aka OPPO supporters shall relocate their businesses now in pap Singapore to JB. since costs there are so much cheaper, especially rental cost, business shall boom.

all non sheep citizens aka OPPO supporters shall buy all their main needs in JB. maybe only that emergency pack of condoms can buy in pap Singapore shop. otherwise every purchase shall be in JB. because why pay for the same thing at 3 times the price?

in the end, the rail is not a bad thing. we confess. as things stand now today without rail, we already buy mostly from JB and spend our S$ in JB. value for money. every trip is like an excursion. quality of life improves if every S$ is spent outside of Singapore in JB.

sure. rail means more sheep producing cotton shall be jobless. but they can turn things around very quickly, in a few years by voting OPPO at the 5-yearly GE. so although harmful to these cotton producing sheep, pain can be a short 5 years if they wake up.

@Tan; there is nothing to do with convenience of travelers. It is also not unknown that a combined immigration clearance was possible.

It is to create money flow by this project. That’s why we never know how much this project costs? When money flows there will be a lot of distributaries and they will eventually ended up in someone’s pocket on both sides.

    Dear TKL,
Why are you, and many forumers here, so against the RTS ?

Don’t you, as an old man like Zhenzidan , know there are many benefits to Singapore ?

One of the benefit is you no longer need to keep your young girl friends in Batam, it is more economical to use the RTS to get across to Johor.

So, Singaporeans old man, rejoice. We, PAP are happy for you that you enjoy your screwing around.

But old man, after you finished all your money on young sweet things, do not act pitiful and ask for taxpayer dollars to bail you out.

    Take responsibility for your decision/action.

COMBINED CLEARANCE on one end? XIAO KOW LUAN PUI yet again.

Where is the sovereign border -if that was the case?

Did the Malaysian border extends to KEE-jiapore or the reverse of LEE-jiapore border extends into Johore Bahru?

In case of security issues arising, which side to exercise jurisdiction in immigration law application?

Response : Obviously, Mr Tan K L idea of clearance in one building, combine together and check clearance at one end only is the desirable idea. However, it may not work that well on the long run. As one mountain cannot have two heads. One tiger head is Malaysia and the other tiger head is Singapore sitting in the same building operating without friction in the long run. For example if a loot of $10 million worth of cigarette is captured. Who will get the credit? Who will get the loot? How to share and who get more, who get less? And Dr M has previously described Malaysians Malay as prone to corruption, so if under the same building, then think what will happen? And our LTA also has people that are corrupted, isn’t that fact? On the long run, will operations be optimal without grievances? Shared computer system? Wait till our personal data got into the hands of those corrupted Malaysians malay! Rm 5 is too much. RM 2 is reasonable and best.

“Those who have knowledge, don’t predict. Those who predict, don’t have knowledge…. When cleverness and knowledge arise, great lies will flourish.”

    -Grand Sage Lao Tzu

Just wondering if Chok’s very very mediocre salary benchmark will undergo inflexion transformation at $500,000? Or if he’s just passed over the heights of his own earning power?

Or when Singapore soccer at 157th FIFA rank is going to inflex, huh Chok? (By the way, your Switzerland standard is at 12th place Chok)

We suspect that the profundity of his insane forecasts increases with his pay level. How Chok? Remember the late 80′s? You weren’t gonna build no more HDB units smaller than 4-room flats you promised…huh Chok?
