TR Emeritus’ in-house techie hospitalized due to stroke

We are sad to inform that our in-house techie, Andrew is currently hospitalized in China due to a stroke.

* The following information are provided by Andrew’s wife in Chinese and loosely translated.

Andrew was rushed to the hospital by his wife last Thursday (6 Aug) evening after he suddenly lost control of the right side of his body, accompanied by numbness.

He was promptly admitted on the same day and attending doctor said he has suffered a stroke. Andrew spent the next 2 days under serious medical supervision and heavy medication. He was conscious but the stroke had also affected his eyesight and hearing. His wife was advised by the doctors to not leave the hospital as his condition could turn for the worse at any moment, which she dutifully did.

Luckily for Andrew, the medication proved to be effective and he regained most of the functions to the right side of his body,  although he still feels weak and numbness on his hands, legs, and head. His eyesight and hearing have also recovered significantly.

Further tests were subsequently conducted on him and he was diagnosed to be suffering from “脑梗死” due to blocked arteries leading to the brain. Apparently, some parts of his brain tissues have died from lack of oxygen and blood. There is also a 2mm growth in one of the arteries leading to the brain which could rupture anytime with serious or deadly consequences. This 2mm growth is also preventing the doctors from using stronger medication on him as it may cause the growth to rupture, causing internal bleeding into the brain.

Andrew is currently weak, but lucid and remains hospitalized. However, his wife has been advised by a specialist that he has to undergo surgeries soonest possible to remove the growth in the artery and insert 2 or maybe more “动脉支架” (arterial stents) into the arteries to clear the blockages, failing which his body will be a ticking time bomb, blowing up anytime during a hard cough, sneeze or maybe even a fall, rupturing an artery or the growth causing internal bleeding resulting in paralysis or death. He will also gradually lose control of his hands and legs, including his memory as more brain tissues die.

The surgeries would cost about RMB 200,000 to RMB 250,000 (estimates provided by attending specialist), a sum which unfortunately Andrew does not have. His family has only managed to raise about RMB 100,000 to date.

To those who know Andrew personally, he is married to a farmer family and occasionally do system maintenance for small companies and websites at about RMB 80 an hour. As such, RMB 250,000 (SGD 50,000 approx) is a huge sum to the family.

At the request of his wife and considering the life-threatening situation that Andrew is facing, the [email protected] is, therefore, putting up an urgent appeal for donations towards his medical expenses to enable him to proceed with the surgeries as soon as possible.

Due to the urgency of the matter and the extremely strict (and sometimes ridiculous) regulations governing the transfer of funds to China, we are providing our official PayPal account and his wife’s China’s WeChat and bank account to receive donations.

Unlike in the past where we can afford not to upgrade our servers if we do not meet our donation target, this time around we hope that able readers would seriously consider making a donation as missing the target of SG$30,000 could mean that TRE may lose our in-house techie forever.

Andrew is scheduled for a “血管造影” (angiography?) this coming Monday (17 Aug) to determine the seriousness of the blockages in the arteries in his head and the extent of surgeries needed to rectify them. Once that has been established, he can be scheduled for surgeries before the end of the month.

So please, TRE is not asking for donations to perform an upgrade but for able readers to help our techie, who has dedicated more than 10 years of his life to the website since it was Wayang Party. If you have financial constraints, do at least help to share this post on social media.

Thank you very much and God Bless.

.

How To Donate

1. WeChat: Scanning the QR code below (right) will make payment directly into Andrew’s wife, Ivy’s WeChat account in RMB (most effective and instant).

2. PayPal: Please use the PayPal form below (left). All payments will be credited directly into his wife, Ivy’s Paypal account in USD. No existing Paypal account is required for Credit or Debit card payments.

3. POSB Everyday Savings Account: Ten Leu Jiun Jeanne-Marie 193-69702-0. Ms Ten has helped Andrew with the collection of donations in the past for his wife’s sickness and has offered her POSB account again this time around. All proceeds will be remitted to his wife by the end of the month.

4. China Construction Bank (建设银行)*: 潘玉琴 6217 0026 7000 1840 653

* Please note that China Construction Bank is only recommended for those with a bank account in China and not for Telegraphic Transfer from outside China. It can also be used for remittance service (common in China Town) which will make a payment from within China.

PayPal

Amount

* Andrew has a tablet which he can receive emails on. If you wish to send him a message, please email to [email protected]

** TRE will not be providing a running update of the donations received as we do not want to burden his wife with having to provide daily updates. However, we will make an announcement and close the donation once the target of SG$30,000 has been met or at the end of the month, whichever is earlier.

Had he been a techie on reach or hwz, the peanut amount would have been raised in a day, but too bad he choose tre, a website frequented mostly by jobless keyboard warriors. He has only himself to blame for choosing the wrong side. Next life remember to choose PAP.

It is fine if you do not wish to donate, but adding salt to wound, you are indeed despicable! If every PAP IB were to be like you, then I worry for Singapore’s future with people like you around.

Mod: Remittance to China is almost impossible and his wife won’t be able to receive it. PayPal works fine. Thank you.

Now our freedom fighter is sick and down, if we can help, please help. There is not many people left to fight for democracy like him.

    May god bless him.

I met him in 2011 at Boat Quay for beer, when he was forced to return to Singapore to renew his passport because the CID was then investigating someone in Temasek Review (he was a witness).

He is just a normal person like any one of us lesser mortals on TRE but what impressed me was that he wasn’t afraid to share with me (a complete stranger – I had only corresponded with him on emails) that he had spent almost a year in detention and also fined because he went AWOL, among other petty things. He shared that he was forced by circumstances at that time and told me the why and how, but I would not share it here out of respect for his privacy.

He told me that he deeply regretted what he did during his younger years but said that he has since moved on after having repaid all his dues to society. China was an avenue for him to start all over again from fresh and he did. He has remained there since.

As for why he joined TRE. He felt that it was a platform that gave voice to the voiceless, people like him, and he could in the process earn some pocket money from its maintenance.

So I wouldn’t say Andrew is a great man, just a changed and down-to-earth man. I believe that at 54 (if my memory serves me well), he just wishes to live out the rest of his life with his wife in China. Due to his wife’s sickness, they have no children but he told me that he has no regrets because he has a wife that loves him very much.

This is the Andrew that I have had the privilege of knowing and come to respect.

Most people if they left Singapore or living in Singapore, they dont care about this country, they vote PAP and as long as they are not affected.

This man actually spends time to help TRE add a voice to all online warriors against a nasty regime. He could have just enjoy life and time in China.

So I would think not many people like him would do this kind of dirty job without being paid. Secondly because of his work, he risked himself with the law.

Not great? Would you do it?

Can someone with knowledge of the remittance procedure please advise me how I could donate into Andrew’s wife China Construction Bank a/c, as I don’t have either Wechat or Paypal accounts. I intend to donate the equivalent of 1000 RMB.

I Googled as to how to do so, but apparently those I found wants me to open an a/c……….I hv no wish to do so, as this would be a one-off transaction.

Thanks……….and I hope everyone whose article is posted on TRE, those who comment & those who visit TRE would chip in with their generous donation to a worthy cause.

Mod: 1000 RMB is not a large sum, so TT is not advisable as his wife has to prove her relationship with you or the receiving bank will not release the fund to her. You would also need a swift number for the receiving bank from his wife. 1000 RMB is about 142 USD, so better use Paypal with a credit or debit card even if you do not have an account with Paypal. Another option is any local remittance service at Chinatown, easy and cheap. That was the method I used for my humble contribution. Just a suggestion.

Many can empathize with his situation and millions of regular folks out thete are also in dire need of funds for all kinds of life threatening situation but without the help of social media. He is lucky to have a platform, to share his sad story or plight, and reach out to the kindness of strangers world wide, almost like a blank sheet to add the names of donors.

Thanks, I’ve done googling and saw the listing for zhongguoremittance.com at People’s Park Complex: unit #02-K90/91,02-K96. I suppose I could just hand over S$208 in cash & the company would credit Andrew’s wife China Construction Bank a/c as listed on TRE?

Thanks………oh,by the way, Andrew would also need to pay for medical care post surgery & other expenses for rehabilitative care. So tell Andrew to bear this in mind.

Mod: Yes, I added the bank address as Hubei, XiangFan but it wouldn’t matter cause they use express bank to bank and where the bank is really doesn’t matter. Also if ask for HP, just hamtam any china number 130xxxxxxxx. Thank you.

    You can use:
    1. Western Union but you need to have the person’s account number and contact. So when you send over via credit card (over Western Union Apps, available on apple or playstore), western union was sent SMS to the person and person need to call Western Union China to do a verification.

    2. You go to 汉生汇率 people park complex second floor and remit directly into the bank account, the fee is $18 but it has very good rate.
