What An Astounding Statement From Temasek

Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara

Instead of seriously looking at the issue of whether Liew Mun Leong should be asked to leave his position at Temasek in light of Justice Chan Seng Onn’s judgment in the Parti Liyani case, it appears that his friends in high places are circling the wagons to protect him.

That is the impression I got from the statements made by Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara ( Chief Executive ) of  Temasek International at the press conference today. Mr Sandrasegara extolled the contributions made by Mr Liew and told us that we should listen to his side of the story behind making any judgments.

As a former practising lawyer, Mr Sandrasegara should know that the judicial process on Parti Liyani’s case ends with Justice Chan’s judgment in acquitting her from her conviction by the District Court. There is no further avenue of appeal. The judge made very clear findings of facts involving members of the Liew family, and all persons who are subject to Singapore Law are legally obliged to respect the decisions of our courts, much like Parti Liyani had to respect the decision of the District Court in convicting her, until her conviction was overturned on appeal by Justice Chan.

Mr Sandrasegara’s appeal to listen to Mr Liew’s side of the story is disrespectful of the Court’s decision. Whatever Mr Liew says cannot change, and has no bearing on, the Court’s decision.

If an Opposition figure had a similar judgment relating to him/ her, you can be sure that the MSM, who are the establishment lapdog, would go to town with the story. That person would be described as the worst of the human species. Someone whom society can know no more. There is such a thing called karma.

Instead of defending Mr Liew, whom I am sure is well capable of defending himself and his family, I suggest Temasek and Mr Sandrasegara should instead reflect on the 4 year ordeal that Parti Liyani had to go through as a result of the inexcusable actions of an elite family. That ordeal is not something that even full monetary compensation can erase.

  • I am thinking aloud:

    Is it a coincidence?
The high court appeal took place on 1 November 2019, 17 February 2020, and 11 August 2020.
On 7 August 2020, Singapore Sovereign Wealth Fund Temasek Holdings CEO Ms Ho Ching, Singapore Prime Minister’s wife, praised Mr Liew Mun Leong on “building people”.
On 2 Sep 2020, The Straits Times reported Mr Teo Eng Cheong has resigned and will leave Surbana Jurong on 30 Sep. Mr Teo is the husband of Mrs Josephine Teo, Singapore Manpower Minister. Mr Liew Mun Leong is Chairman of Surbana Jurong.
I believe Ms Ho Ching admires Mr Liew for many things like framing building people plans, I am not sure if Mr Liew framing Parti is one of them.
In May 2018 following a report by Parti in Oct 2017, Mrs Teo’s Ministry of Manpower issued a caution to Mrs Liew and an advisory to Mr Liew’s son for illegal deployment of Mr Liew’s domestic helper Parti.
Why didn’t MOM issue a caution/advisory to Mr Liew Mun Leong who is the legal employer of Parti.
Is it normal to take a good 8 months to investigate and issue caution/advisory for such a seemingly straight forward case?
Who at MOM are involved in the decision? Is Mrs Teo aware of such report, etc and has she explicitly excused herself from the case?

    Strange.
    Very strange.
    I am puzzled.
    I am begging for answers.

  • lying pap S$m liars:

everyone is asking, did liew mun leong lie when he fixed the low wage maid.

instead of answering the simple question, pap folks especially those in pap temasick, all elk the question. like pap PA paid IBs, they all try to confuse by saying liew mun leong did a lot of good for Singapore.

    we ask, so what?

so what because the question is, did liew mun leong break any pap law by lying about a crime which a lowly paid maid did not do.

from pap tv to pap states times, all in BOLD letters say pap temasick says pap liew mun leong did a lot of good for Singapore.

    BUT,

not a single question as to whether liew mun leong needs to be jailed for lying in his attempt to fix a lowly paid maid.

pap PA paid IBs – we provide our IC numbers and contact details if you want – our question is simple. it is not about how much liew munleong was paying itself from pap kitty. we are asking, did liew mun leong break any pap law in his attempt to fix a lowly paid maid by lying about her.

liew mun leong may have paid himself a lot of S$m from pap clown wife run temasick. liew mun leong may have written many good BS books about people in his BS.

we are not talking about all that.

all we are talking about is, in liew mun leong’s attempt to fix a lowly paid maid, did liew mun leong lie to the spf lie to pap court judge.

if he did lie, all those pap BS now on pap tv and pap states times about over 500 other maids redeployed by their employers ain’t going to cut any ice because these over 500 other employers did not lie to fix the maid. liew mun leong did.

  • kind of lopsided psychology:

one thing very admirable about the elites is that they know when and how to be united and start supporting one another once the going gets tough for one of them (especially here with all the help from 158th media environment) – while lesser sinkie peasants are brainwashed by the elites (aka white idiots and plp gang) and 158th standard not to support themselves once one of them has been ‘found’ to do wrong and ‘deserves’ to be punished ???

with this kind of lopsided psychology (the elites always promoting themselves while the peasants always trained to undermine themselves ?), the elites (some of them aka white monkey elites) will always almost likely win (or get away with things) and the peasants will be held accountable / punished even for much smaller transgressions ??

This so-called CEO of Temasek still thinks that LML is innocent just because he had contributed immensely to Singapore and therefore could do not wrong. If not, then he is implying that LML should be forgiven for lying to the court. WTF!!!
If LML is innocent, he should have rebutted publicly upon the maid’s acquittal. Remaining silent will not do.
However, if the judgement is correct, then LML should apologise publicly and compensate Miss Parti for all her sufferings.

Singaporeans need to closely monitor the career of Justice Chan Seng Onn who acquitted the maid and put “well-connected” Liew Mun Leong on the “hot seat”.

Justice Chan could wind up being “fixed” later just like Justice Michael Khoo who acquitted J.B. Jeyaretnam and his co-defendant. Justice Khoo was transferred to AG’s Chambers. He did not disqualify JB Jeyaretnam from Parliament. This angered LKY.

I am not surprise the Liew’s, including LML, Karl Liew, May Liew, Mrs Liew, Heather Lim will gang up, coordinated or otherwise to contradict whatever Parti says to make her look like a liar.
Mr Liew is a wealthy ex senior civil servant businessman, Karl is his only son and other family members will want to be in his good book.
If the prosecuting team plays dirty to win, I can at least understand, it is their job to win the case they or their boss decided to take up (just like PM Lee told PAP members first of all, they must win the election).
It is going to be a slam dunk.

Straits Times: Acquitted maid case: Authorities will deal with what had gone wrong in process

“Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam said that something has gone wrong and need to be set right, in the case of the acquitted ex-maid Parti Liyani”

    ————–

Shanmugam is needs to do more than look at the “process”. THREE (not just one) things need to be investigated.

    (1) The process that convicted the maid only to be acquitted on appeal.

    (2) Did Liew Mun Leong “illegally deployed” his maid to his son’s house and
    office?

    (3) Did the Liew family falsely accuse their maid of stealing to silence her?

On (1) it is clear the investigation that resulted in conviction was flawed. Why? Is it because the accuse is only a maid accusing a well-connected businessman with friends at high places?

    (2) above should be easy to check.

On (3) if the items the Liew family claims were stolen is proven not to be the case then the Liew family has some explaining to do. It makes the maid’s claim that she was accused of stealing to silence her credible. The Liew family needs to be held accountable.

Setting things “right” requires holding those who broke the law accountable notwithstanding what they did for the country previously. These are irrelevant because it was not done pro-bono. He (LML) was very well paid (tens of millions).

    >>Mr Sandrasegara extolled the contributions made by Mr Liew and told us that we should listen to his side of the story behind making any judgments.<<

Mr Sandrasegara's legal stand has been UNDERMINED by none other than the Minister of Law K.Shanmugam who was reported to have said:

    https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/parti-liyani-changi-airport-group-chairman-maid-shanmugam-13091378

"Parti Liyani case: Shanmugam says 'something has gone wrong' in chain of events, urges people not to 'prejudge' review".

While you played for time, Law Minister himself has acknowledged that "SOMETHING HAS GONE WRONG", while Mr Liew himself has been reported to have confirmed that he has NOTHING to say.

    To Mr Sandrasegara:

If you have ANY shame, decency or integrity, you should withdraw your words said as reported in Lim Tean's commentary, or do the honourable thing by tendering your RESIGNATION with IMMEDIATE EFFECT.

To Temasek Holdings Board of Directors:

What say you with regards to Liew Mun Leong being appointed CEO of CapitaLand in the past as to whether he had ANY character defect which would have disqualified him from the CEO post in the first place? From the High Court judgment, there seems to me to be implicit criticism of Mr Liew from the perspective of his character of "improper motive" in making the Police report which had resulted in the (malicious) prosecution of the Indo maid. Surely a person of good character would NEVER have resorted to such "improper motive" of ruining an innocent person and one who had faithfully served Mr Liew over 8 years and exploited to do extra work for a pittance which is not even "peanuts" in relation with Mr Liew's supposed wealth which must have been part of the reported around $20 million paid as CEO of CapitaLand in 2007, if I am not wrong.

Thank you for the notice. The judgement pdf is here:
    https://www.supremecourt.gov.sg/docs/default-source/module-document/judgement/-2020-sghc-187-pdf.pdf

Some parts of the judgement are very shocking.

    Example 1:
” On appeal, the Prosecution conceded and agreed with the Defence that during the trial below, there were already difficulties with the functionality of the Pioneer DVD player in playing the DVD disc but not in playing the recorded clip in the hard drive of the DVD player.127 The fact that there were such difficulties with the functionality of the Pioneer DVD player was however neither disclosed to the accused prior to the cross-examination of Parti on the working condition of the Pioneer DVD player nor to the Judge in the trial below. If the Prosecution had known of this defect in the Pioneer DVD player during the trial below, it should have fully disclosed it. The trial court could be misled into thinking that the Pioneer DVD player was in a good working condition when questions were (and unfairly) put to Parti was on the basis that the DVD player was still in a good working condition after an incomplete demonstration of its important functionalities during the trial. ”

What this says is basically the prosecution cheated at the first trial. The prosecutors knew the DVD player was not working, but cheated the defence and the judge that the DVD player was working.

    Shocking, right?

    Some heads should roll.
