Another big problem looming for Singapore

Can $4G can solve this problem or not?

The shift to remote work carries an inherent risk. If a white collar job here can be done from home, it can be offshored somewhere cheaper. Could someone else do it more cheaply from KL, JB, Bangkok, Mumbai or Manila?

No need for MNCs to employ overpaid, unhappy, lazy and ungrateful TOC or TRE reading PMETs in their regional HQs. Can sack all these ingrates and employ hardworking, cheap labour working in KL, JB, Bangkok, Mumbai or Manila. And they can save on FT salaries here: no need to pay condo rents for mamas who then give their employers a paid reputation by sneering at S’porean uncles and aunties for being poor.

Juz saying.

For the record, The 4G leaders failed their legitimacy test: Why PAP aiming for 65% of the popular vote. (Btw, written in 2018: Why even with 4G donkeys, PAP will retain power.)

And based on what PM, Lawrence Wong and Shanmugan said the PAP is very aware that their legitimacy is waning: Legitimacy problem for the PAP as 9% of voters get smarter

But the bad, sad news is how they are trying to fix the legitimacy problem. Instead of listening to Tharman’s views (see below), the PAP are trying to shift the goal posts, lowering the high water mark of success: now only aiming for 65% of the popular vote as their high water mark of popularity and success, not -70%+ mark of the past: How the PAP plans to fix its legitimacy problem.

And we must be a more tolerant democracy, with greater space for divergent views, and a more active civil society, without the public discourse becoming divisive or unsettling the majority. It will be good for Singapore if we evolve in these three ways. They will each help ensure stability in our democracy in the years to come. And they will tap on the energies and ideas of a younger generation of Singaporeans and their desire to be involved in public affairs.

Reported on Straits Times :Quote -:”Court awards $5.6m to family of woman who sued surgeon after she died from botched liposuction
    ….
    Selina Lum
    Law Correspondent…
SINGAPORE – The family of a pharmaceutical company executive, who died at the age of 44 following a liposuction procedure in 2013, was awarded damages of about $5.6 million by the High Court on Thursday (Nov 26).

Surgeon Edward Foo, who was sued by the family of Madam Mandy Yeong Soek Mun, was ordered to pay the damages after the court found that he was negligent in performing the procedure at his clinic – TCS at Central Clinic.

In a written judgment, Justice Choo Han Teck said: “Dr Foo, who may well be a competent general surgeon, was not adequately trained to perform the liposuction and fat transfer procedures.

“Unfortunately, Dr Foo believed himself capable and thus did not manage this case as a competent surgeon in this field should have done.”

The court also found that Dr Foo’s delay in sending for an ambulance after Madam Yeong collapsed at his clinic was an act of negligence.

Dr Foo initially deflected liability by blaming the doctors at the Singapore General Hospital’s accident and emergency department for failing to resuscitate her, but dropped his case against the hospital doctors midway through the trial.

Justice Choo awarded $1.7 million for dependency claims of Madam Yeong’s family members.

This included $1.4 million for her husband Seto Wei Ming, about $97,000 for her elder son, about $122,000 for her younger son, and $94,000 for her elderly parents.

Justice Choo also awarded $3.8 million for loss of inheritance, based on Madam Yeong’s projected income and stock options at Roche Diagnostics Asia Pacific, where she was head of regional market development.

He awarded about $31,000 for estate claims, which included funeral expenses, medical expenses incurred at the clinic and general damages for pain and suffering….”Unquote .

Response : “was awarded damages of about $5.6 million by the High Court on Thursday (Nov 26).”???

Why Singapore con people court judges never award a few hundred millions more and failed to provide for their family unborn future generation a luxury lifestyle too ? Such con people high court system should be remove off our system ! By awarding such gigantic huge amount to a woman who had died doesn’t make sense .If she did not died, will she be able to live long enough to make that $5.6 million ? Who knows what her lifespan is ? So the Surgeon Edward Foo obviously buy insurance for the operation and claim will ultimately be claimed through insurance to pay ! Like that $5.6 million payout awarded by judge won’t skyrock insurance premium for everyone to pay !

And we do see other cases that women not seriously injured can even claim millions awarded by judge ! What rubbish judges did Singapore have that do not need to use their evil brain to think ? Such madness is in our con people judge system ! Pui !

In theory this should work. But do note the time difference also hor. India is a couple of hours behind us so if you need them to start at 8am Singapore time then it would be a bit of a problem.

And it would be real fun if these offshore people ever had to physically attend meetings here ha ha ha.

Working from home is good and all that but once this pandemic is over you can bet that more than 75% of staff will be back in the office 5 days a week. It’s only because of the pandemic that people are working from home and I don’t expect the majority of bosses would be too happy to see the office empty.

  • Back to Work:

It’s time for people to get back to work since the community cases are well under controlled. If people can return to the mall and places of worship, they can also return to their offices to work. Instead of opening up the borders to foreigners, first open up the workplaces. December would be a good time for people to return to work, shop and celebrate the holiday and to gear up for the new year, 2021.

Talking about local employers, alot are miser. don’t pay well or even pay at all. They expect people to grovel and kneel at their feet, while they behave like masters of the universe. They always spout teamwork. When it comes to money, they want the lion’s share, giving scraps to team members. They will say rent very high, operating costs very high, tax very high, CPF rates very high, levies very ex etc. Always kiam siap. All ku hon kwai (scrooge).

But this is how they get rich – at the expense of others.

People get pregnant fired. People go for reservist, get replaced. So don’t talk loyalty because they don’t deserve it.

Reported on Straits Times :Quote -”Scaling towards zero food waste in fish farming
Food waste is one of the biggest waste streams in Singapore, and 40 per cent is generated by the commercial and industrial sectors that handle fish, other seafood and vegetables. In this second instalment of a six-part series on food waste, The Sunday Times, in partnership with DBS Bank, dives into a fish farm. Judith Tan and Vanessa Liu explore how the farm’s waste is raw material for a restaurant as the food industry pushes towards zero food waste.

With only half of each fish usually used, The Fish Farmer sends the remainder to The Soup Spoon’s central kitchen to turn into assam fish chowder, avoiding wastage.

SINGAPORE – It is no fishy business to say that from the moment a fish is harvested to the time it lands on your plate, about 30 per cent of it would have been lost as waste. With today’s affluence and preference for the convenience of a fish fillet, this proportion can sometimes double.

“A filleted fish is easier to store and freeze if you do not plan to eat it on the same day. It is easier and faster to prepare, as well as easier and faster to eat, since there is no need to worry about bones. Today’s consumers want this convenience,” says Mr Malcolm Ong, chief executive of fishery company The Fish Farmer…..

According to The Fish Farmer’s website, grey mullet is an oil-rich fish that is high in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins. Its meat is of a medium to firm texture and has a rich, distinctive flavour.

The fish can be prepared in many ways – including steaming, grilling and pan-frying – and is a favourite among Teochews…..

“The fillet is just meat. It makes up only 40 per cent of the entire fish. So the rest of the fish – 60 per cent – would have been thrown away. These are perfectly good parts of the fish,” he says.

Food waste is one of the biggest waste streams in Singapore, and the amount of food wastage generated has ballooned by about 20 per cent over the past 10 years…..

Last year alone saw around 744 million kg of food wasted. That is equivalent to two bowls of rice a person a day, or the weight of about 50,000 double-decker buses….”Unquote .

Response : Zero waste .Make me think of those plastic package pork that I buy from supermarket. On the surface view, the entire pork will be lean meat very nice and look good. Once buy back and open up ,the bottom part of the pork will usually have some white lard which is unedible and has to waste time cutting away to throw away. And all these evil supermarket include it to make that piece of pork heavier and sell more profits !Pui ! So no zero waste of fish, how will that make fish consumer or buyer pay more now ? Be sure to pass cost to consumer again !

Reported on Straits Times :Quote-”SINGAPORE – Consumers will soon be able to transfer funds from their bank accounts to mobile wallets, and between such e-wallets, in a faster and more hassle-free way.

This comes as two major funds transfer services will open up to non-bank financial institutions (NFIs) from February next year, in a significant step towards making digital payments here more seamless.

NFIs that are licensed as major payment institutions will be allowed to connect directly to Fast (Fast And Secure Transfers) and PayNow, said the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

These NFIs include Grab Financial Group, which operates mobile wallet GrabPay; Razer Fintech, the financial technology arm of gaming firm Razer; and e-wallet Singtel Dash.

The move will allow users of NFI wallets to make real-time funds transfers between their bank accounts and e-wallets, as well as between various e-wallets.

Most e-wallets currently require users to top up their funds using debit or credit cards, and do not allow transfer of funds between e-wallets.

With the change, a customer can choose to transfer funds via Fast or PayNow from his mobile banking app or internet banking platform to top up his mobile wallets, instead of keying in his credit or debit card details…..

Merchants are also expected to benefit as they will have a larger market of consumers than before for receiving payments instantly, said Singapore’s central bank.
    0
Businesses that partner any of the 23 Fast or nine PayNow banks, or e-wallets that have traditionally been closed-loop ecosystems, will soon be able to receive real-time payments from users of other e-wallets or mobile banking applications that will be joining Fast or PayNow.

The nine participating PayNow banks are Bank of China, Citibank, DBS Bank, HSBC, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Maybank, OCBC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and United Overseas Bank.

As for the mechanics of the initiative, NFIs will be able to connect directly through a new Application Programming Interface (API) payment gateway developed by the Direct Fast Working Group.

The group is guided by the Singapore Clearing House Association and the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS), which govern Fast and PayNow respectively….”Unquote .

Response : Bigger problem awaits Singapore with such digital banking e-wallet system .First all these set up allowing e-transactions cannot be free and don’t make money ! It prove that point that cost of living will be driven up directly or indirectly .Even allow non bank to have digital money transfer functions? Transfer one time charge $10 fee ? All those evil women wing will like it -easier to do money laudering by passing the law in and out of Singapore and difficult to catch ? Wait till reserve gone also nobody knows .As one age,one may have dementia or lose the eyesight vision. How to remember so many passwords and account number and not mess up ?
