Do not over react to the increase in Covid-19 community cases

There is widespread fear, indeed a paranoia, in Singapore about the increase in community cases and the formation of a few infection clusters, possibly involving the Indian variant of the covid virus.

This fear is stroked by the government ministers, who have reacted by re-imposing restrictions, described as a return to phase 2 of the circuit breaker.

Many comments in the social media lambasted the government for reacting too slowly to the closure of the borders, especially to travelers from India.

I have a different opinion of this issue.

I believe that the government ministers, and indeed the general public, is over reacting to the potential risks.

In most countries, the infection rate and deaths have declined from the peak of the wave a few weeks ago. India is among the few exception.

I observed that in Singapore, the few community cases do not cause much harm. They do not spread widely. 5 to 10 cases a day do not become 100 or 1000 cases.

The community cases are people tested positive for the covid. In most cases, they are asymptomatic and mild. They do not spread widely. If they do, the spread is limited. They do not need hospital care.

There is no need to extrapolate that we will face a crisis similar to India, if we let our guard down. The environmental conditions and risk factors are quite different.

Of course, I could be wrong.

My approach is to look at the hospital admissions due to covid. If many people have to be admitted for treatment of covid, we should be concerned. But the time has not come yet.

There is a risk of over reacting to the paranoia. The re-imposition of restrictions will cause harm to the economic and to the small business and livelihoods, affecting several hundred thousand people in Singapore.

It will lead an increase in financial distress, depression and suicides.

This cost should also be considered.

I want to point out the risk of over-reaction to the potential crisis that may not come.

In this case regarding India, I think we should not take the risk.

The PAP is not over-reacting; it is managing the risk very well. It is adding 5 more hotels for SHN either in anticipation of more “imported” cases or infections in the community. SG offers 5-star hotels with meals delivered to the door step! After SHN, hotels can then provide sight-seeing tours to all the SG attractions. Comrade Tan, should STPB promote the “Covid Holiday Package” in high risk countries instead of banning flights?

@Mr. Tan; no one in SG likes the above mentioned situation!

The reason why it happened was because the PAP government took the same approve as your!! Wait until “lou-sia” (diarrhea) than “start digging holes”!

Countries already barred Covid-infected travelers from India, but only after 3 weeks, Singapore started to do the same!! And the PM said it was “prompt” action.

Now is not the time for talking “cost”, it is a “PADEMIC”. If the PAP’s taskforce had “promptly” closed flights from India and its neighbors. We would be having 8 or more pax in gathering instead of back to 5 pax, and many businesses would start opening!

I really feel sorry for those celebrating “Mother Day” and coming “Hari Raya”.

Anyway Happy Mother Day and Selamat Hari Raya.

Concerns that the “Indian” variant could be a silent spreader are very real. Modi was boasting about India’s success at containing the pandemic and saving the world when other countries were experiencing their first wave. Suddenly, his country is hit hard by this second wave with a new variant. All that time the virus was mutating and silently working its way into the populace and then it broke out with a vengeance. Now it’s spreading to the rest of the world. There may be more “zombies” in the community than we think, especially with all the imported cases. They may suddenly wake up!

    @ TKL,

I WARNED RECENTLY, the most recent being only 2 days ago, that vaccinated or not, the Pfizer/Moderna vaccines are INEFFECTUAL of shelter/protection.

oxygen: It is also NOT the 95% efficacy for those vaccinated of immunity protection as you claimed in another TRE thread.

IT IS WAIT FOR YOUR TURN to be re-infected for those vaccinated, and then, unintentionally and perversely perhaps of asymptomatic cover afforded by and no thanks to this vaccination, spread to the rest.

IN OTHER WORDS, THE VACCINATION CONCEALED THE RISKS DANGER AND HELPS IN ITS SILENT TRANSMISSION.

Who knows, as of now – the vaccine is the cure OR THE CURSE of Satanic e*** hiding in darkness?

    https://www.tremeritus.net/2021/05/04/do-not-over-react-to-the-covid-19-pandemic-in-india/

AND NOW THIS COME TO PASS.

4 community cases – including 2 fully-vaccinated among 25 new COVID infections in Singapore

    https://sg.yahoo.com/news/4-community-cases-among-25-new-covid-infections-in-singapore-075807200.html

NOTICED THAT THE VACCINATED with either one or two doses is a SMALLER proportion of the base population YET IN THIS RANDOM ISOLATED SAMPLE OF “REALITY TEST” two out of 4 community cases are fully vaccinated!

This give hint that OUT OF THE SMALLER PROPORTION OF FULLY VACCINATED to base population has GOT THE SAME RISKS OF INFECTION as those not vaccinated.

It is DEFINITELY NOT THE 95% EFFICACY OF HARM/RISKS PROTECTION that you claimed vaccination afforded to those who came forward to be vaccinated.

BUT IT IS THE REALITY OF – VACCINATED OR NOT – the risks of Covid-19 infection is the same.

IT IS WAIT FOR YOUR TURN as I keep forewarned.

SO IT IS A PUZZLE TO ME WHY YOU SHOULD BE SO COMPLACENT/CASUAL of your advocacy of Covid-19 INDIFFERENCE generally and now the rise in community cases (some of them are mutated variants) again.

    Utterly incomprehensible!

  • It is precisely that India was complacent and did not over-react that caused it to be in its current pathetic state. China, on the other hand, continued to build make-shift hospitals in various cities despite the C19 condition being firmly under control.

China’s gutsy authorities are not afraid to lock down an entire city and are well-prepared to respond immediately to any resurgence, which is why it has kept the situation well under control.

Up until today, I still fail to comprehend why when the 1st wave struck, the LEEders have refused to conduct a nationwide testing to weed out the virus once an for all, like what China did.

Now I am beginning to understand why.

    1. Sinikieland has no intention to close the border as it would mean losing tourist and medical $$$. Sinkieland’s borders were never really closed like what China did during the 1st wave, selective arrivals were still allowed, no?
    2. Sinikieland had to maintain the “fear factor” so that it could win the GE (according to Kee Chiu), due to human instinct of “flight to safety”.
    3. Evident from the continued importation of the various variants of the virus even today, Sinikieland is too arrogant and believes that it can control the most deadly and cntagious variants of the C19.

And it is precisely this priority of $$$ and the LEEders and so-called experts’ arrogance that will cost daft Sinkies greatly.

I hope I am wrong, for the sake of the 60% or so Sinkies.

Modiland still have leprosy, polio and probably every other virus known to mankind—a failed state indeed.

    Disgraceful indeed!
BTW when will ceca-loving papig impose severe penalties on fake covid travel documents.

The pappy garmen thot they can outsmart the Covid virus by opening borders to high risk countries with the safe measures in place but they were given a tight slap!

The recent clusters must be serious enough to make them change their minds to revert to Phase 2 measures, ban travellers from high risk countries & MOM’S latest action to stop new entry applications for work pass holders including maids to stem the import of new variant virus!

I don’t think they are over-reacting but are reacting to mitigate the risks of variant virus importation just like what they did in the beginning till the Covid virus exploded in the dorms by not banning travellers from China timely when Wuhan was lockdowned to save the economy over human lives!

When you have complacent and arrogant leaders in a country that puts economic interest above human health and lives, this is exactly what will happen.

Soon Nepal will see a full-scale pandemic outbreak and end up like India.

Nepal should, like what China did, closed its border crossing with India on the initial outbreak of the double mutated variant. Sadly it failed to do so and its people will now pay for the leader’s ignorance and arrogance.
