Prices across a whole spectrum of our everyday living are set to go up

Our 4 supplementary budgets last year put forth by Heng Swee Keat to tackle the C19 pandemic, to help companies stay afloat, to save jobs, to help workers stay employed, to help families and more have costed our country a hefty, hefty S$100 billion or thereabout. In simple term, that was 100,000 million Singapore dollars!

This year, which a ray of hope for the world economy restarting and the reopening of our economy for business again, prices across a whole spectrum of our everyday living are set to go up or have alearly risen. They include electricity prices, oil prices, food prices and the latest but not last, train and bus fares.

On GST increase, the government has given Singaporeans much advance notices and much hints but until now, its implementation date has not been announced yet.

What everybody knows is that at some point in the future, our GST rates will go up from the current 7% to 9% and almost everybody including a vast majority of the many people whom I have spoken with only know that there will be a 2% increase in the GST and a 2% increase doesn’t sound alot. The reality, however, is nothing could be further from the truth. Let me explain.

GST rates going up from 7% to 9% is only a 2 PERCENTAGE POINT increase, ie, the actual amount of change from 7 to 9 but the rate of change, ie, the percentage increase is NOT 2%! The rate of change to our GST going up from the current 7% to 9% is a very substantial 28.6% increase. ( Please read this paragraph again).

I understand that in the face of a fast greying population, increased social, healthcare spendings and the need to replenish our national reserves etc, the pressure to find new revenue sources is immense.

Still, I would like to urge the pap government to hold off any GST increase for as long as possible in order to allow the majority of our working class fellow citizens who have suffered much in the last 23 months such as job losses, pay cuts, mental stress, underemployment etc some breathing spaces to at least recover.

If that is not possible, I would like to suggest to the government to seriously consider implementing our impending GST increase in 2 stages, ie, first increase it from the current 7% to 8%, hold it for 2 years and then further increase it from 8% to 9% thereafter.

More good years are for pap politicians but are very distant dreams for too many of our middle income, lower middle income, low income and no income Singaporeans.

Think.

Since when during the ENTIRETY of the last 50 years of PAP political monopoly of powers over SG, did the ENTIRE Political office HOLDERS of the PAP Administration carry ANY BURDEN of costs of living increases of Singaporeans AND TO MAKE Singaporeans lives any lighter?

    Anyone?

Contradictorily, the constant announcement from PAP Heads is SG must allow them to increase their salaries IN ORDER TO GET good people, and free of corruption.

The slant observation is HOW GOOD IS GOOD PAP people – yet for last 10-20 years SG is coned by PAP into believing to survive SG needs FOREIGNERS TO HELP SG to even stand on its own feet. If so then WTF is PAP for since if we need foreigners WHY PAP demand constantly SG to be open WHICH is CERTAINLY NOT the SAME as needing foreigners? And THEN SG is blamed for being racist.

That is the trademark of Sinchiapor Incorporated ie. “DUPLICITY” (A Grade) :
A Han Fei Tzu leegalist style of authoritarian control over educated diligent (and hapless) sheeples struggling to make ends meet under Emperor Pinky’s runaway inflatory Papeconomics. Oxfam inequality index calls it out at 104th rank! Free Press Index pigeon-holed the pappy subjugation culture at 160th position – 8 ranks below Bangladesh. The Attorney General, the President, the Auditor General, the elections committee, are all under Pinky’$$$ thumb heeheehee …. maybe even Biden wants to copycat cronycrats Sinchiapor style mee siam mai hum ahhh. And don’t you dare ask the Emperor Dowager about their sovereign wealth fund $alarie$$$ oi

Its is understandable that we have some inflation but then it is obvious the govt n its GLCs are MILKING us dry.

Our COL is over-elevated by comparison to similar countries and with our neighbours.

Yet,the REAL STANDARD OF LIVING for MANY sinkingporeans are eroding away.
    This is very easily observed.

  • Stupid Singaporeans:

The only formula available for Singaporeans to correct this constant price rise is for every 1% increase in GST, PAP drops 10 candidates in Parliament. 2% drops 20 bye-byes. Drop until no pants, let’s see who’s tua-ki. Theirs’ or ours’.

Conclusion – In general, Singaporeans are stupid. Go FUCK yourself!

  • Trust only myself:

Increasing GST is a matter of time and could be very soon.

Paying $4,000 to each healthcare frontline workers (who else, the resignation rate so high) is to show they care, but soon all the increases will follow…..

Only stupid guys will believe only 2% increase so must say thank you to the liars.

  • I read the paragraph again!:

    Let’s say I purchased 10 items at $100 per item = total @1000

At 7% GST hike, I have to pay $70 of tax for my purchases.

But at 9% GST hike, I will be paying $90 of tax for my purchases.

Therefore I would be paying $20 more in GST taxes for my purchases now….

Effectively I would be paying (20/70 x 100) 28% more in GST taxes than before…. what the bloody papeconomics covid slap in the face!

I doubt very much this breed of opposition like WP is of any use. They should go after the vaccine and unvaccinated issue. TRE / @TreTech / @Realistically doing more than the whole WP MP’s put together.

Look at their behaviour and what they are preaching – increasing taxes (f*ck that) LGBTQ empowerment (double f*ck that) and one fat liar is now household news.

There seems to be no way out. If you can, then migrate. This place is going to become a mess soon, regardless of who is in power.

    Well said, bro.

We have always disagreed with GST. Because it hits the poor the hardest.

All form of taxes must be on income. When making money, taxing it makes sense. The more S$m made, the higher the taxes.

But the pap Ljs and pap Cbs work differently. Because these thieves make S$m on the ownself justify ownself S$m basis, taxing income is as good as making them lose the money they have worked so hard to steal. And since cotton sheep vote them into power whatever these pap thieves do, why not GST.

We, the 39%, become collaterally damaged.

Imagine. Folks without income having to pay taxes. How can this be correct? pap lies, saying, rich people pay more GST because they buy more. ffff the stupid pap logic. for those pap Ljs and pap Cbs paying each other S$m, what is 9% GST? Nothing. But to those making less than median wage or jobless without income, 1% GST is already 1% too much.

In the end, like another poster said elsewhere, ticking the right box during GE solves the problem. But these ffffing cotton sheep chooses to behave differently. And we, the 39%, pay proportionately very high taxes via GST when all the thieving pap S$m folks all pay relatively little income tax.

GST is wrong in a lop sided nation like current pap nation. Because it hits the poor, especially the jobless poor, the hardest.

Balloting is a good filtering process. Keep filtering every 5 years until the right ones come by.

Knowing they are incompetent, arrogant & bullying yet still accept them you fall under the “bo-pian” group. You get nothing better than further exploitations from them.

If we don’t start the change & give ANY opposition a try, we wouldn’t know how good they are. We have reached a point that any Tom, Dick but never Harry will do.

In the end, IF WE DON’T TRY, WE WONT KNOW!

  • Pioneer:

Instead of increasing GST, I think we should implement a wealth tax and a tax on capital gains. These are progressive taxes and enable those who can afford it to increase their contribution to tax revenue so as to lighten the tax burden on the lower income.

Reiterate that GST increase from 7% to 9% is NOT 2% but a very substantial 28.6% increase is true.
Likewise We Singaporeans were cheated again when price of water was supposed to increase by 30% but instead it was increase by 15% for first time and another 15% for subsequent time; which made more than 30% increase as originally plan! Because 15% is compounded by another 15% not 30%!!!
