Shame on you PUB

“PUB repays 6 months’ overtime (o/t) pay with interest owed to some staff due to technical difficulties with HR system’- Today online, 23 April 2022.”

I say shame on you PUB, seriously, shame on you!

Although it was not reported how many PUB staff were affected and how much o/t pay were owed, it is reasonable to believe that those affected staff are low income workers and not executive level staff.

I want to stress that I do not expected all HR digital systems across all companies and organisations in Singapore to be failproof. That is just not realistic but what happened in this case is just too much.

From time to time, technical difficulties must arise and that is only normal and to be expected, however, unlike many blind and unthinkingly suckerporeans who are likely to suck PUB’s explanations in double quick time, I totally reject PUB’s explanations. Let me explain.

According to PUB, ”the issues arise due to technical difficulties which led to a delay in a new staff work module in our HR system. As such the officers were unable to submit the o/t claims in the system for processing’.

I ask myself if I were in charge and I encounter similar problems, what would I have done?

My answer is simple. If I were in charge and my HR system encounters similar difficulties, I wouldn’t waste any time but to manually process those workers’ o/t claims expeditiously while the technical people attend to the HR system. I will not wait and wait and wait and/or suck thumbs while letting the workers’ personal funds run low while bills at home were piling up. I will have no need or wait for pap generals or scholars to teach me what to do.

Remember that it was 6 loooong months and not 1 or 2 months of delay. Empathy, compassion and understanding from the relevant senior people at PUB were totally, totally nowhere to be seen. Utterly pathetic!

Furthermore, their union was of no help to the workers in their hours of need, I suspect senior PUB HR people were busy sucking thumbs and MOM wasn’t doing any better too. It was reported that it finally came to manpower minister Dr Tan See Leng’s attention.

I repeat. Shame on you PUB. Senior PUB HR people must not only be shamed publicly but must be properly punished to drive home the message that if you only prefer to stay in your comfort zone with no ability or willingness to innovate or empathise, then Singaporeans only owe it to themselves to remove you in their own interest.

Think.

    Simon, THINK she is STILL in a SULKY MOOD, HARPERING over her “STAGNANT” SALARIES she is complaining LOONG TIME AGO “IS NOT ENOUGH”! She has been HINTING to her Big Boss, Mai Hum that failing to RESTORE THE PREVIOUSLY REDUCTION OF MINISTERIAL SALARIES OR INCREASE THE SALARIES OF HER AND HER WORLD CLASS FELLOW MINISTERS TO A REASONABLE LEVEL MAY DISCOURAGE TALENTED FOLKS FROM OUTSIDE AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO JOIN THE GOVERNMENT SERVICE!

    So pending the URGENT RESPONSE BY MAI HUM, common folks and affected PUB Staff can CONTINUE TO EXPECT MORE COCK-UP and SUCK THEIR THUMB all day and night LOONG!

    Remember the poor’s request for a few more cents were held back, stopped by the PAP and were even scolded for wishing to eat in restaurants (VICIOUS ACCUSATION of very Millionaire Monster of PAP).

    Contrast the very eagerness of themselves RUSHING TO PAY themselves humongous bonuses and pay increases – declaring that they deserved it bcz of economy doing well. Economy doing well DO NOT MEAN poor or average SGpns doing well.

    Is the PUB helmed by SAF General alumni – good at fighting battles and winning wars (against SGpns which are easy ‘enemies’) on paper which is such a grand and cherished quality mattering so magnificently by PAP who themselves are similarly good at gunning down SGpns who do not have the judicial ammo and Parliamentary arsenal, armoury the PAP has.

    6 months to remedy a payment issue is totally UNPROFESSIONAL by any commercial standards. But then it seems the public sector under pappies always give excuse that a long runway is needed to do things, always No Blaming Culture when things screw up, always CBL until the roof suddenly falls. But can’t be help since their yardstick is the Golden Prince given 18 years runway (plus 20+ years OJT) who still cannot fly.

    (Anyone notice they announced covid measures relaxing, hoping to see Singaporean dancing in the streets, expecting praises for the MTF. Instead the public reaction was complete muted/indifferent – like Russia hoping to be greeted with flowers and smiles in invading Ukraine but got middle fingers and NLaw/Javelin instead. So Ah Loong must quickly say “glad to see most still wearing masks”. LOL, die-die must always save face, hor?)

    I am wondering before this HR digital system existence, how did the old HR staff did their salary payment to the staff? I think at that time the only high tech devices was the calculator!

    If HR digital system can be taken as an excuse for not paying workers on time, then a lot of companies would be using the same excuse for not paying employees at all or delay payment!

    The key thing in this report is the fact that PUB needed 6 bloody months to solve the problem heh heh heh.

    Tells you a lot about how the organisation works doesn’t it? If any of the top management were denied their salary you can bet your HDB that it won’t take 6 months to resolve!
