Passport Houdini

Is it necessary for Singapore to bend itself backwards to cope with someone else’s inefficiency or indifference to promote good relationship with its neighbour?

Here, I talking about our Northern neighbour’s Checkpoint Authority.

We have just learnt that four Singaporean passports were not stamped at the Johore checkpoint. Three were fined RM3,000/- each after they were handcuffed and detained.

Did the fine go into the Johore treasury or were the fines pocketed after crumpling up the summons?

Just the other day, a car was waylaid into a Johore checkpoint office for demand of extortion money by off-duty personnel (in slippers) as the family’s passports were also not stamped.

With this poorly managed situation by the Johore authorities, why would Singapore want to demolish some nine blocks of HDB flats in Marshiling to expand the Singapore ICA?

Why should the residents of HDB blocks 210 to 218 be made to give up their comfort and familiarity of their hometown for this houdini.

I suggest the project be remitted as there is really no telling on what can take place given the poor experience by Singaporeans on the previous construction and expenditure of the fastrack rail in Jurong.

Similarly, can Singaporean travellers be assured that their passports will be stamped when presented at the Johore Immigration office when the facility is expanded at the southern end?

Unless a firm assurance is given and a thorough investigation of the two cases be conducted and the perpetrators brought to bear, there is NOT A NEED to reconstruct or expand the Woodlands land crossing.

Hahaha… no wonder Singaporeans cannot get jobs

Blindly trust the Malaysia custom and never check if their passport were stamped or not.

I guess checking passport is not part of 10 years series question that is why..

    Hahahaha ….stopid

construction activities for gdp lar ??

tearing down and rebuilding and finding new projects (some may turn out to be white elephants or of low demands ??) will keep gdp going lar ?? and then on the other hand, ‘pretentious’ campaign on green (even the printed advert materials plus exhibitions ?) while doing “non-green activities” like clearing huge parcels of green land for new buildings is also a gdp activity lar ??

open-leg policy will create gdp activities lar in the demand for housing, consumption of food & water (got gst right ??), energy use, transport, etc etc ??

//Why should the residents of HDB blocks 210 to 218 be made to give up their comfort and familiarity of their hometown for this houdini.//

aiyoh. would the white monkey idiots care ?? they have their talented doggy gang who will know how to tell / write ‘convincing story’ on why it should be done perhaps also showing you some agreeable interviewees from the blocks (those disagreeable will attract lesser or no coverage at all lar ??) ??

This is one instance where I have to agree with you.

How can anyone who wants to pass through customs don’t bother to check the stamp on their passports at all?

Are Sinkies so well pampered that they expect and trust whatever handed to them on a platter? My gosh!

Surprised. Robots and AI are supposed to greatly increase efficiency. In future there is no need even for a passport. An iris scan will suffice. Backed by facial scan.

Anyone been to the Lowu-Shenzhen border crossing before Covid? Thousands of HK residents cross per hour…far more than what is happening at Woodlands.

And I wonder why the need to take back HDB blocks? How many are really manning the immigration and customs checkpoints? The rest are office staff that can be located far away.

Reported on Straits Times :Quote-”SINGAPORE – The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) issued 141 digital birth certificates on Sunday (May 29), the first day such certificates are given in place of physical hard copies, its spokesman told The Straits Times on Monday night.

The authority added that it issued another 78 digital birth certificates as at 6pm on Monday, bringing the total to 219.

Over the past five years, about 39,100 birth certificates were issued each year, said the ICA. This works out to an average of 107 physical birth certificates issued a day previously. The number of digital certificates issued on Sunday was thus higher than this average.

In a move to make the registration process easier, physical birth and death certificates will no longer be issued from Sunday, the ICA announced earlier this month.

Instead, digital certificates are now issued and all registrations are done online. In-person birth and death registrations will no longer be available.
    …..”Unquote.

Response : Wait till the child grow up,need go overseas to work and overseas employer need check a paper birth certificate as proof, then need a lot of money to get a printed paper certificate from ICA again !Pui !

Do you all know that if you changed house ,and need a change of address paper slip, you need to submit online to ICA to get that change of address that paper slip to be pasted onto your NRIC ! And such printing of that paper address slip is no longer done by the police force and ICA has sub out to third outside party to print that change of address paper slip for ICA !!!! Pui! Even print one address so easy also need to sub out to third party to do the job ! So did some third party make good profits out of it ? Consider say for example 4 millions Singaporean need change of address slip, that is good profits in some evil women b**** pockets ,no ? Pui ! Simple job also need to sub out to third party contractor to print when the ICA woman officer can do it themselves ,all these ICA women so lazy till to these level meh ? How I know because recently ,I just got a new paper address slip from ICA to paste on my NRIC behind ! Pui !

As for our passports ,we heard of delay of new passport issuing and that mean longer waiting time to get the passport ? Maybe also due to sub out to third party for printing passport ,who knows ? Lee Hsien Loong should get the ICA to stamp out a six months to one year free extension to our present passport to extend the passport as most people did not travel during covid and this is compensation which allows people to travel immediately instead of waiting few months for new passport to be issued ! Don’t waste people time waiting ! Just ICA stamp an extension of 6-12 months on old passport for travel will do ! Special covid period need special laws execution ! Josephine Teo Li Min that information minister is useless !

If we are a Smart City, we would need lesser space because of automation. Our foreign Minister instead of visiting a convicted criminal should have worked with his Malaysian counter part to stop the practice of stamping passports. This has been in place between the US and Canada and throughout Europe for umpteen years. The traffic jams on the causeway will be reduced. The congestion in and around the causeway reflects poor planning. The solution is not more land but negotiations with our northern neighbour to stop the decades old practice. Didn’t this practice on passports begin in the 1960′s?

I refer to the some SG passports allegedly not stamped at JB by MY immigration officers. I think their passport stamping kiosks be made or constructed with transparency in mind, i.e. we can observe their officers actually stamping the passports. Currently, their kiosks views (where stamping takes place) are obstructed from us. How are we certain that they actually stamp on our passports and NOT stamp on their desks !!! We were told to check that our passports are stamped b4 leaving the counters, but some of us in a hurry just take our passports return to us. In the first place, they shld have integrity when our passports are presented to them for stamping. Their officers are to ensure that ALL passports presented to them at the counters be stamped WITHOUT fail !! How can their officers’ carelessness resulting in our citizens breaking their immigration laws n got detained n fined ?. It is not as if we want to sneak into their country deliberately n unlawfully just to avoid stamping our passports!! I hope our foreign affair millionister raise this serious issue with his counterpart up North.

It’s the onus on JB immigration to stamp the passports.

Beware sometimes they stamp very lightly or the stamp is already worn out. Then when you return they say there’s no stamp.

We all know their ulterior motive.

Why is MFA keeping quiet? Is it not their job to protect Singaporeans?

Finally, check your passport before leaving the immigration booth. Don’t assume they’ve stamped it. And don’t ever drive on without having it stamped.

Your post reveals that you do not understand that all elected govts. are to serve and protect the interest of the citizens. All monies held by govts. belong to citizens so it is the right of the citizen to demand that all services provided are at the best cost in a transparent manner. If original cost is not revealed and since govt. agencies, govt. linked and owned companies providing services to citizens show profits, we can assume that this govt. is profiteering at the citizens’ expense.
