Forward Singapore

I refer to the Today’s report, “4G team to refresh social compact, develop ‘Forward Singapore’ agenda for next decade and beyond: Lawrence Wong” (May 1).

The newly elected 4G leader, Lawrence Wong had clearly outlined in his May Day Rally’s speech that refreshing the social compact will be a major undertaking of his 4G team.

It is heartwarming to learn that Lawrence Wong wishes to collate and study feedback from unions, the people and private sectors on the economy, healthcare and housing, among others.

As clearly defined by MSF Office of the Director – General of the Social Welfare: A Social Compact is an implicit agreement between the Government and the people on the roles and responsibilities each plays, so that together we can shape the growth of
society in both the present and the future.

As exploring, analysing and understanding the needs, aspirations, anxieties and plights of the people, especially the poor and the vulnerable ones become extremely critical for the Government when it comes to formulate, improve or adjusts its national policies. Thus, it should be the way to perceive them as the prime drivers to excel the nation forward, and climbing to another height.

As highlighted in the website of Monetary Authority of Singapore, there is considerable uncertainty around the global macroeconomic outlook, with the trajectory of the pandemic remaining as a risk. Besides, global inflation is expected to rise further to 3.3% in 2022, etc.

As we all know, Singapore is one of the global financial hubs and a cosmopolitan city, its economy and social fabric are unavoidably affected by such dynamic and volatile challenges. How would Singapore overcome all these difficulties are indeed the reflection and test of our 4G leaders’ wisdom, resilience and resourcefulness.

As a concerned parent, I am worried about how could PAP Government help our young generation securing jobs in this highly competitive working environment and tight employment market as well as expanding their career prospects after their graduation from higher education institutions amidst Singapore is facing severe talent crunch, and globally competing for tech-focused talent.

Hence, it is utmost critical and significant for our government to prioritize, focus and tackle the complexity of structural unemployment and retrenchments, as well as consistently promote skills upgrading schemes and knowledge-based technology to upgrade, uplift the entire workforce. Simultaneously,
attract and balancing the right number of foreign talents to supplement our workforce.

Although Singapore’s overall unemployment remained at 2.2 per cent; resident unemployment, 3 per cent; and citizen unemployment, 3.1 per cent, according to MOM’s monthly unemployment report for May.
However, it is also important for the Government to help those retrenched or unemployed citizens inclusive of PMETs to be re-employed sooner the possible.

In addition, it is extremely vital for the Government to institute contingency plans and consolidating its long-standing capabilities to uplift the economy, consistently improving the quality of livelihoods of all citizens and overcome these rapidly evolving economic challenges.

For example, if the MAS could further strengthen our Singapore currency, it would certainly help our importers to bring down the costs of imported goods and services, also, it would offset the rising costs of inflation. Eventually, it is effective to cascade downward and ease the costs of living for every households.

At present, many medium and low income households still struggle hard and find ways to make ends meat so that they are able to put enough foods on their dining tables amid of the rising foods prices, utilities bill and transportation charges.

In the eyes of the public, it is the Government’s obligation to take bold and pragmatic actions for tackling the globally soaring oil, energy and food prices and the adverse effects of tight supply chain.

Besides, it is key for the Government to consider the waiver for GST or not raising the GST for the daily essential staple foods, such as rice, flour, milk, milk powder, cooking oil, eggs, cheese, potato, fish, chicken and sugar. By doing so, it will greatly alleviate the escalating cost of living encountered by the people.

I deeply believe these strategic measures or suggestions highlighted above will enhance the productivity of our workforce, and able to maintain stability and vibrancy of employment as well as fortify our GRP growth.

End of the day, the people will appreciate the merits of the Government, and thereon, both parties can further strengthen the mutual trust and bonding so that we can look forward for an understanding, cohesive society and a prosperous, sparkling pSingapore.

PAPPY has never backed down from anything they make money from. Even the SERs, you could see, they dont mind offending 200 over families because the number of migrants converted to locals are more than 200 for sure.

So I dont understand why people kpkb and vote PAPPY and hope they change their mind?

After all these decades, the only thing that works is them losing seats in parliament. Nothing else can convince them.

“….As clearly defined by MSF Office of the Director – General of the Social Welfare: A Social Compact is an implicit agreement between the Government and the people on the roles and responsibilities each plays, so that together we can shape the growth of society in both the present and the future….”

    ———–

Wow, typical pappie kaki gong kaki song. Was there any discussion with the public, much less “agreement”, that our foreign population is now at least 40% foreigners? Was it rather discussions/agreements with employers and foreign dealings instead, with a desire to growth-at-all-cost as the path to leave behind a legacy? But we can only see now the legacy is pig given a long-runway still cannot fly, leh.

And how have these foreigners integrated into SG culture if the aim is Social Compact – how many did NS as a melting pot? Or they only here becos pap gives them a sweet pot? Look at Janil P – talk lan-cheow about “regardless race, language or religion” but did he do NS/Reservist? Talking big will create Social Compact, meh? Why Janil never recommended an obvious way to ensure new citizens really become Social Compact – by paying a bond for their children to secure that they will do NS and until then, they also do NOT have equal voting rights as tru-Singaporeans? They want Social Compact in whole of SG society or only in the upper-echelons supporting pap?

Dun say xenophobia – FWs contracted high incidence of covid already showed the PAP’s Social Compactness means using cheap, exploited labor. As minister JT can brushed it off as “no need to apologise because nobody demanded an apology”. And when these FWs (rightly) complained, MHA surrounded them with riot police. Does that sounds like Social Compact? Maybe in the pappies’ dictionary, hor?

Also, how does being heavily reliance on foreign talents/workers in many critical (or potentially critical) sectors help our Social Compactness? Is this against the concept of Total Defense/Self Reliance? SG Forward with constant being hostages to foreign talents? Another pap lan-cheow concept.

Lastly, how to SG Forward without effectively addressing our TFR issue? By importing more population and dressing it as Social Compactness, hor. Last Previous 40+ years, we do not have mass riots, yet in last 10+ years ALL the mass riots (reported, under-reported, hushed-up) were by who? Social Compact in action, hor?

LW really has his hands full, hor. Or he can wayang-wayang and get doggies to write glowing articles on how to move Forward.

Reported on Straits Times :Quote-”SINGAPORE – Singapore replaced China as the top investment destination for Temasek in its last financial year, when the value of its net portfolio rose above $400 billion for the first time despite volatile market conditions.

Counted as one of the world’s top investors, Temasek said in its annual review on Tuesday (July 12) that it had invested $61 billion and divested $37 billion in the year ended March 31, 2022. That boosted its net portfolio to a record $403 billion for the period.

The portfolio was valued at $381 billion as at end-March last year.

The state investor achieved a dividend income of $9 billion in 2021-2022, up from $8 billion in the previous financial year.

However, the one-year return for shareholders fell to 5.81 per cent amid global market volatility, with steep drops seen in technology stocks that have suffered bouts of sell-offs from China to the United States.

The one-year return is down from 24.53 per cent in the financial year ended March 31, 2021. The financial year 2021 returns were Temasek’s highest since 2010, when returns stood at 43 per cent…..”Unquote.

Response :Temasek has so much money to invest .So Singapore government give Temasek so much money to invest ? Our government need to seriously identified out the difference between Singapore reserves money and Temasek money, else who know which is which ? Like that billions siphon off also nobody knows when money belong to who is not identified out ? It may even become the Lee xx or the Ho xxxxxmoney ???? If the government or Temasek still has so much money to invest, where is the logic or reason to increase our GST next year ? Pui !

Yesterday ,I saw two clinics at Punggol waterway point and oasis point both having long lines of queues to see doctor obvious for covid. And oasis even has long queues after 2100+ hour as long as 15+ people there last night. Why zJosephine Teo Li Min evil b**** backside that is not functioning as an infirmation minister did not demand all the straits Times evil women b**** backside reporters to report out the figures on covid consistently daily !Suppressing such covid information not to give early warning to public is dangerous ! So why takes all the troubles & waste money conducting these townhalls gatherings?
After all, PAP only listen & accept ideas that are already in their books?
One can’t help but think this is just the usual wayang put up by PAP.

just look at what happened in parliament, every single suggestion by the opposition members are shut down & even told to shut up & sit down.

Are these PAP gatherings paid by taxpayers dollar?

But as we all already know how this will end, it will be just another PR exercise. Witness the same clown telling us all that GST di die has to raised in view of the Ukraine war and food prices at sky high (no pun intended) prices currently. And all he thinks about is that the GST HAS to be raised no matter what. Some government huh?

Of course the unemployment is 2.2%. They count those working for 1 hour as employed. Those in village national service (including one villager patrick with a soil project that no one knows why it was better than one schooling’s Olympic gold medal) counted as employed. Those who cannot find jobs and opt for further studies factored separately. Local villagers who are cardboard and can collectors in their twilight years, food center cleaners, graduates turn delivery people, taxi drivers and security guards all considered employed. The chiefs drawing millions to earn the top salaries among all other villages are bloody idiots.

  • SINGAROAR:

Let’s not be delusional. This is lip service by the PAP. Feedback? They only accept feedback that praises all their policies. We have never had a government that governs in the interest of Singaporeans since GKS stepped down. What we have is an Enforcement PAP team that forms the govt. The polices have all been decided upon. There is not going to be any changes even if globally to survive there must be a radical shift from the policies of yesterday years. An example is the FWs dormitories. So much feedback but no action taken until the Covid hit. Taxpayers’ had to pick up the bill on behalf of the dormitory owners because the authorities did not act to stop the inhuman living conditions of the workers. MOM, under Josephine Teo should take responsibility but then LHL protects his Ministers by giving them new Ministries. So why should any one of them shake the boat by doing anything different even if they know about it? Just use the ST to paint a glorious picture. Problem SOLVED. At present a global food crisis is presenting itself. There are all signs that food shortage is looming. So shouldn’t all the farms at Lim Chu Kang be retained and support given to them to increase productivity instead of bulldozing the land for military use? We do not need scholars who are adverse to critical thinking in the govt. We need to elect a govt. to govern the State and the citizens. This cannot be attained by voting in another PAP Enforcement Team!

With all due respect I can give to PROFESSOR Jamus Lim, this, i saw a boy who is either naive or playing/scoring political brownie points.

If it was the prior, i suggest Jamius set up a shadow ‘economic ministry’ and start youtube educational program, making and publish at least one 20mins youtube session every week to present to Sinjapoorlang what is the current economic state and how it can managed better.

If the reason was later, then Prof Jamius you are not aggressive enough in ‘demanding’ clear actionable points for Alvin to come back and checking those points later in the year to ‘KPI’ Alvin’s ‘performance’.

With all the star status Jamius had made for himselves, he had yet to establish an unique brand name. Overall he is over rated and naive. God bless SG, 一代不如一代.

//Hence, it is utmost critical and significant for our government to prioritize, focus and tackle the complexity of structural unemployment and retrenchments, as well as consistently promote skills upgrading schemes and knowledge-based technology to upgrade, uplift the entire workforce. Simultaneously,
attract and balancing the right number of foreign talents to supplement our workforce.//

balancing the right number ?? the white monkey idiots are “flooding” sinkie land lar with all sorts of chat-ba-lang people (from low skilled to PMETs ??) from their open-leg policy lar ?? and then have their own plp doggy gang (may include self-interested parties like “cronies or closely related to cronies” ??) to propagate the narrative that daft sinkies are too lazy or not interested for low or semi-skilled jobs AND not talented enough for PMET jobs – the reason why daft sinkies are outcompeted in a lot of areas ???
