Staying on an even keel amid challenges

I read with interest the Editorial, “Staying on an even keel amid challenges” (ST, Dec 8).

As all know, a boat which wants to sail safely and smoothly, it needs a sturdy structure of keel and wise, capable and experienced captain to duly steer the boat, as well as industrious and cooperative crews to work seamlessly.

I hereby make an analogy to fully illustrate the above point: -

A country can be likened as a boat, the political structure which comprises the independence and efficiency of legislature, judiciary and executive might be likened as the structure of a boat’s keel, the cabinet of a ruling party is likened as the captain of a boat, and finally, the policies implemented are likened as the sea water for a boat to sail safely and smoothly. Therefore, in a nutshell, all the respective parts have to integrate into one whole in order to succeed in every spectrum.

In fact, the Government of Singapore has perfectly equipped all the above criteria and qualities. And, Singapore can be nicely fitted or well qualified to fit into this illustration.

Although we can’t nitpick the good performance of the Government and its commendable governance for the past few decades, but, the following areas are needed to be explored and requiring room for further improvement.

The pricing method for the HDB’s BTO and balance flats is commonly perceived as lacking of persuasion and transparency, as HDB does not reveal the breakdown of the exact construction costs for the respective launches of BTO flats.

As Today’s recent report, Singapore has been recruiting doctors from overseas to ease the “heavy workload” of the ones here, and to supplement its healthcare capacity needs, MOH Holdings (MOHH) said.

If Singapore needs to recruit medical doctors from overseas, this means that we are really short of doctors.

Then, why can’t our universities increase their intakes of medical students? Otherwise, some of our academically brilliant students who wish to pursue their ambitions and dream career as a medical practitioner have to flock to other medical colleges in overseas, and in due course incurring heavier studying expenses.

While we seriously recognise the utmost significance and importance of the National Service, if all the military training programs and the logistics supply and arrangements can be further tightened, intensified and well-coordinated in every aspects, I deeply believe that the National Service Obligation could be further cut to 18 months instead of the present 24 months.

This “hidden” benefit will facilitate, expedite or cascade downward to better flow of manpower resources into the employment.

Last but not least, I eagerly hope to see less stringent measures to curtail freedom of expression in the cosmopolitan city – Singapore. As, any form of excessive “suppression” of speech will restrict, suffocate the creativity of the people. And worst, deterring or killing the genuine, meaningful feedbacks from the ground.

The problem with BTOs is that PAP wants to make money at ALL costs. We already know that these so called “affordable” flats aren’t affordable because the pricing and HDB’s contradictions tell us so.

On one hand constantly saying that BTOs are affordable then saying that they are priced differently in mature/non mature estates is already lying. If you want to say flats are affordable don’t go and price them in relation to what resale flats are going for in the same area, it only shows you that these BTOs are pegged to the selling prices of older flats.

Also, constantly drawing upon a scenario of a couple earning 5k and ONLY using CPF to pay off their flat won’t work either because what is missing is ALWAYS the amount of CPF the couple would have paid PLUS interest and the number of years taken to pay off their “affordable” home.

PAP knows the game is up because too many are taking far too long to pay up their flats with interest included. And their silly excuse of it not meaningful to disclose how much it costs BTOs to build just confirms that prices are just way too high.

This should be a different post, but you are accurate that. PAPigs have been making money from Singaporeans. Population WHITE paper is fundamentally to recruit more PRs and new citizens to make moeny out of them. Most are clueless as they have been squeezed to work long hours and do not have time to reflect on what is being done to them.

The training of good and capable Doctors requires good students who have scored high grades in their A-level exams. Opening up more medical schools or allowing more students may dilute the standards required.
On the other hand, recruiting Doctors from third-world countries such as India and the Philippines will only bring in low-quality Doctors.
Is the Govt concerned about the reputation of Singapore touted as the medical hub of S.E. Asia?

What about Singapore finance ? Is it healthy ? Can we ask Halimah Yacob why she is now the key person holding the reserves money did not called for the government to check why Temasek lost $377 millions in FTX investment and yet totally no need to have any investigations and also yet straight away write off that huge millions sum of think is $377 millions or about there ? Is this called proper SOP procedure in management ? How do one be sure other bad investments is at the same time be write off too together with the FTX and who knows whether millions being siphon off too when there is no need to check ? Check is a proper procedure if there are millions of public funds being lost ! Use the right tool to do the right job and bypass off !Else GST has to be raise again and again !

It really sound like America is going to face a lot of problems coming soon .Even Walmart maybe is closing down due to too many thieves.
No wonder politics need to haul out Trump to be charged to shut his mouth up .Biden adminstration is facing big problem .When a country has an Indian origin woman Vice President that is running the show behind, how do one expect efficiency and proper treatment ?And Singapore is recruiting a lot more Indian women doctors from India ! I once see a Punggol polyclinic Indian doctor months back known as Akita Dey if I remember her name correctly. My right lung wasn’t breathing right, and I request for a chest X-ray!That Indian woman doctor Akita Dey use the stethoscope to check the back of my lung and she says it is working ok no problem and refuse an X-ray for me.Then she told me she is going to do an ultra sound scan for me.I thought the ultra sound scan is for my lung,so I agree. However during the ultra sound scan by another woman laboratory assistant,I noted my lung was not scanned and I ask why since my lung is having problem .Then her shocking reply is that dumb stupid Indian doctor Akita Dey had ordered an upper abdomen ultrasound scan for me not a lung ultrasound scan ! How dumb can all these Indians women doctor be ? You believe in their Indian degree doctor qualifications Pui !
