He was an icon of my era.
I remembered the kind of excitement when we first had Creative Sound Blaster installed into our computers in RV computer room.
During my time, whenever we talked about successful entrepreneurship in Singapore, we would proudly mention Sim Wong Hoo.
However, it’s not PAP’s typical elites nor scholars, he was just a poly graduate.
His success wasn’t founded upon Singapore’s system, in fact he would have failed in Singapore’s system if he didn’t venture out to Silicon Valley. We wouldn’t have the first Creative Sound Blaster made from SG … err, not exactly, it was conceived and created in US by a true blue Singaporean who isn’t considered as “Top Talent” by our Singapore system.
He would have become just another ordinary engineer working for some MNC in SG, taking a decent pay but Singapore would have lost a shining star.
Sim Wong Hoo wasn’t just an Icon of my era but a Prime Example of what Went Wrong with our elitist system, by stucking out as a sore thumb of counter example to what PAP would want us to be.
SWH should not have moved his base back to SG, a place where people who are “outlier” of the system, non conformists of PAP’s system or just rebels, are all ostracized and thumbed down.
But that’s history and he just loved his own country, regardless.
Goodbye Wong Hoo. You have inspired at least two generations of Singaporeans even without you knowing.

Rest in peace Mr Sim Wong Hoo. He might not have stellar credentials but he did make it as a businessman. We all know that empty vessels make the most noise bragging about how well they have tackled Covid, how “affordable” BTOs are and so. Mr Sim might not have had much press coverage regularly but he didn’t need any of that at all.
Here is to a future local shining star! May one or more appear in every generation!

Everyone dies of something said a wise doctor to me, years ago.
True. However with the marvel of today’s medical advances and means of early detection of diseases, sudden “peaceful death” at his age will probably mean he died in his sleep, or a stroke or cardiac arrest while he was awake.
He was still active in business discussions lately and hence no reports of a cancer or long term chronic disease.
So, was it due to cardiomyopathy…the name for a broad range of heart diseases that often does not show early symptoms?
As cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough have pointed out, some 2.5% of those Covid vaccinated has cardiac problems…

Sim brought fame to Singapore. May his sudden death also bring some comfort to Singapore by having his medical team disclose the diagnosis. That will be his final contribution to society.

Chua Mui Hoong missed two very important issues: (1) the $400m invested (and lost) by Ho Ching when Temasek invested in FTX. (2) GST increase
Ho Ching justification that Temasek “can afford to be contrarian” is nonsense. FTX was so badly managed it amounted to a fraud/scam. It never had a chance to be successful. Despite 8-months of due diligence Temasek never saw the problems and risks in FTX. Ho Ching should be held accountable for her stupidity and incompetence investing in a fraud like FTX. She already lost billions when Temasek invested in Merrill Lynch and Barclays.
The Government never showed proof GST needed to be be increased. It was not open and transparent – a compelling reason for regime change.

Read today’s papers, one of them carries a report saying that Mr Sim was born in Malacca.
That being the case, he is by birth a Malaysian, though Malaysia gained independence only in 1957 and at that time, Singapore was still under the rule of her colonial master.
Kowtow to Mr Sim who adopted Singapore as his country of allegiance after his birth and contributed immensely to Sinkiland.
