Looming Dangers (Sequel)
In my previous article on TR Emeritus, I specially mentioned my PG status and having benefitted from PAP Administration to lend weight to it. I had served NS for 3 years way back in the late sixties, much more than most people. I have seen Singapore transformation, the sacrifices of the common folks, their sufferings and hardship and been in the thick of it. The article is not about me. I have done reasonably well. It is about the future of Singapore. First, allow me to address the feedbacks received. For as long as I can remember, I have not voted for PAP. Not because I am anti-PAP but because of my desire for a balanced Parliament. I am a firm believer of “Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely”.
The 80,000 number that I used on foreigners allowed in annually is for illustration to understand the magnitude of its contribution. It provides a simple rule of thumb correlation. 80,000 foreigners equate to $2 billion injection into the economy. Even if it is half that number the contribution to the economy is by no means small, especially over more than 20 past years of implementation. The $2,000 average spent per month that I assumed is conservative after factoring rental expenses and a lot would be spending more than $2000 to take care of those who are not contributing initially but will do so when they become economically active. Of course, there are remittances but this should be stable from year to year as they are mainly from the Work Permit Holders. What we are addressing here are those who have been given permanent stay, some of whom eventually made it to citizenship.
In our overt pursuit for progress and wealth, we have, inevitably, become a less caring society as manifested in the wide-spread employment of old folks in their twilight years, some with bended knees and back, painfully cleaning tables at the hawker centres. Something is very wrong when the government seems to be proud of it giving explanation that they are doing that for exercises. The government has set the tone, permeating down, undermining the Confucius values that we try to inculcate in our young. Can we blame the children for abandoning their parents?
I am genuinely worry about Singapore future and sincerely concerned for our fellow true blue Singaporeans. We have become a victim of our own success. Cracks are beginning to show. Our only hope is to jolt the senses of those in power to start the process of moderation. To continue with the endless pursuit of wealth is meaningless if it cannot buy Happiness.

Need to improve the quality of lives of Ordinary Citizen.
The top has no problem but the bottom has face high costs of living to cope.
Generally this affect the quality of life and many are unable to retire with dignity as they are cash poor.
Many elderly are still working in low income and hard job when they should be retired with their poor physical condition.
More can be done for this group.
Primary reason is that too much of their CPF Fund has been used for their HDB Flat resulting in Cash Poor situation.

You can cry fire, fire but no one is listening until the house burned down! Lol! You mentioned about a “rogue government” in your previous article. How can the people tell if a govt has turned rogue??

To most common folks staying in “AFFORDABLE” HDB flats and struggling to make ends meet, this is a GREAT and INSIGHTFUL ARTICLE!
However, to those ELITES and the RULING CLASS, especially the Lee Kayu FamiLEE, it’s LIKE PLAYING MUSIC TO A HOLEE COW!

Online critics can only cite superficial social issues or what they can witness walking around their estates etc(such as elderly cleaners, cardboards collection etc) because most are not privy to the hidden problems of millions who live within towering four wall or tiny spaces. Occasionally, a lone foul body permeates the corridors of hdbs and sporadic mentioning of suicides in state controlled media. etc.
Even social workers who are beholden to the govt won’t know the true extend of the state of rot or degeneration in spore.
Most fade quietly or die by themselves under the pervasive rule of the govt who control state narrative. Spore is the proverbial babel who reached upwards towards a piece of heaven but eventually struck down for their ill gotten wisdom and spiritual illusion.
Hence, you hear nothing but.. constructive news or stories from state controlled media. Prosperity is for those who work, courage to change with the times and cease new opportunities while isolated from reality.
Power corrupts yes but democracy keeps the people blinded under blind, successful and rich leadership who follow the smell of money.
If you are happy with crumbs from the tables of the rich I say good luck to you

I also serve 3 year NS in 1968. Same I have never voted for the PAP as I believe the PAP do not take care of Singaporeans.
The rich people in Singapore are the PAP Ministers ( more than a million dollar salary), PAP businessmen etc. They are having the good life.
The poor in Singapore have been suffering for a long time. Its time to have a change of government.

Renowned architect and housing policy expert Professor Tay Kheng Soon has expressed concern over Singapore’s public housing policies, which he believes have trapped the government and its citizens in a no-solution problem.
Speaking at a town hall meeting organised by “Workers Made Possible” on 9 April, Prof. Tay noted that HDB public housing was once a crowning achievement, providing affordable homes to many Singaporeans. However, he believes that the government’s decision to sell the idea of asset enhancement to the public has resulted in a weakened society and a housing problem without a solution.
“The greatest mistake that was made by the government was to sell the idea to people, to the population about asset enhancement,” said Prof Tay. “That is really an opiate in which people got drugged. And in the process has weakened the entire society.”

Small people nurture what is small in themselves; great people nurture what is great in their beings…. Treat others as you would be treated. The biggest mistake the papigs made…Asset Enhancement Con.
….knowing full well that [email protected] 99 goes to BIG FAT Zero.
Even a 5-year old knows that you cannot asset enhance something that is going to Zero.
40 year old HDB flat have to u- turn and head towards zero way way way before 99 years—perhaps in 10 years time.
Besides there are 450,000 pioneer Singaporeans— many living in these 40-50 year old HDB flats.
They should be hitting the resale market in 10 year time or sooner.
What then?
Why is this so very obvious question not asked in Parly.
Are we ALL in OSTRICH-mode??

Should return some money to the Pioneer and the Merdeka Generation as they are most affected by the high costs of living.
Suggest Government should give each of them $1000 per month for this year to cope with the inflation and high COL.
This will help some elderly to retire and seek medical treatment.

With HDB prices so elevated, the NOTION OF HDB FLATS as an ASSET ENHANCEMEMT is OBLITERATED.
ONLY RICHER sgs who own extra condos/landed can actually *cash out* their HDBs.
For most older sgs, they may have to pass ownership to their disadvantaged adult-children who may otherwise not be able to buy their own HDBs with PRICES SO EXUBERRANTLY HIGH.
THE PRs who bought cheaply years ago are thr likely ones to benefit.
They can simply ca$h out their million-dollared HDB n go home as MULTI-MILLIONAIRE$,after CURRENCY CONVERSION TO HOME CURRRNCY.
BESIDES,THEY WOULD HAVE PLENTY OF PERSONAL SAVINGS FROM THE WAGES AS PMET.
THE G HERE HAS NOT ONLY ROBBED OUR JOB$ TO DI$H THEM TO THEIR FTs but also helps ENRICH SUCH FTs/PRs via HDB OWNERSHIP.
IS THIS A CLEVER GOVT OR A DAFT ONE?
You decide.

MIW bonuses are based on GDP growth numbers. In a corporate setting, that’s like rewarding employees for spending more than the year before each and every year. That’s why the MIWs’ only interest is in growing GDP (not GNP), not Singaporeans’ happiness and standard of living. To them, there are no Singapore citizens, only economic digits
loading...
PY Wong….the $2 billion figure you give is disingenuous….the reason why the dafts are the dafts is because all these years the MIW have used such sleight of hand tricks to fool them. They intentionally give figures that proof their points and make them looked good while withholding facts that make them looked ugly.
When the MIW introduce their asset enhancement scheme in the 90s, did they also tell you when property prices increase, it will have a knock-on effect on all other prices like wages, food, water, electricity and so on? Don’t believe then just look at the latest inflation figures for everything. When they introduce their foreign talent scheme to address the shortage in labour force, did they tell you that companies will go for the cheapest “can-do” labour regardless of education level, skills and experience?
Your illustrations such as the $2 billion figure, “ability to be selective, hand-pick the cream of the crop from the surrounding regional countries” and unexpected benefits such as “the full potential of land appreciation is finally realised it may even outstrip the construction cost of the lines”…..are designed to confused the dafts and muddle the issues. Which begs the question….are you one of the IBs working for the papigs?
Well done, I have to congratulate you for successfully befuddling the one-dimensional dafts.

Dear PY Wong,
There are 2 groups of people here.
The die hard pro Americunt camp and the die hard pro Chinacunt camp.
Both camp have evil motive to do Singapore in taking instruction from their ma$ter.
My post serve to remind/alert Singaporeans to be careful and not let any of these group of people make use of to sabo Singapore and do Singapore in.
Have you watch this video?

1. Which camp are you with?
2. Do you agreed with what the man said to Martin Lee in the video?
You causing all this chaos in Hong Kong and you are quietly eating here enjoying your food?
Answer please!
And at your ripe age, you are very naive and gullible.
A society is far more complex than you see it.
You should walk the ground more often instead of stupidly believing all the sob stories told to you. Some fell through the crack is because of their own doing.(lazy, unmotivated, drinker, womanizer etc)

And will you also help the die hard irresponsible lazy and unmotivated, drinker and womanizer ?
Answer please!

450,000 PGs, many owning very old HDB flats with a unsolved lease decay problem, is a clear and present danger.
It requires a solution now.
Because PGs are in their 70s and 80s.

If you stick your heads in the ground; the problem does not go away.

@”In our overt pursuit for progress and wealth, we have, inevitably, become a less caring society…”.
Response: there are two hands with 5Cs. On the right – cash, career, condo, car and cards.
On the left – career, condo (hdb), credence, contribution and compassion.
So which hand, take the 3C – choice, chance and change. Make a choice, take a chance or life will never change.

@ PY Wong, I agree that we should be changing the governing party every 5 years GE.
That is how Singaporean can really benefits.
Any party, once have a grip on power, will corrupt in its own way. Or, find its way to corrupt.
Do not worry with the future of Singapore. The future is in the hand of future generations. If they choose to be grossly blinded, you can do nothing. If they decided to rejoin Malaysia, you can nothing too.
What you(me) can do is to educate people around us not to trust any government in power. Just fix them once every election with our balloting paper in hand, get them changed. At least we can still do that.
This is a very simple concept, just vote againt any party who are ruling. No need reasons. Just philosophy of power changing.
50, coming to 60, over years of power under one party has its ugly and toxic tentacles into every aspect of our lives. So normal that we think it is us.
