I refer to The Straits Times Opinion, “‘Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia – never,’ says Biden in Poland” (Feb 22) and “Ukraine crisis could get worse before it gets better: Vivian” (ST, Feb 22).
The Ukraine war is already in progress for one year, and whether how long it would last?, in a great extent, it has to be determined by the following factors:
1) Whether or not US-led alliances (inclusive NATO) will continue support Ukraine by supplying financial resources, goods and materials and all sorts of weapons or armament as well as humanitarian assistance to defend against Russia?
If these manners of military, medical and financial assistance persist, there will not be any hope of peace.
In due course, the prolonged war will only benefit US, as it Military-Industrial Complex, MIC can continue bloom and survive.
2) For the purpose of consolidating its hegemony, US keeps on inciting its allies (stoking arch fire) to stand up to Russia, there will be dim chance of dawn for peace.
3) If either party, namely Russia or Ukraine does not want to put down their prestige and dignity, the war will continue to drag on.
4) Only when either party (Russia or Ukraine) realise that there is no winner in war, only going through calm negotiations or peaceful talks to resolve all the disputes, entanglements then the peace for the both countries could be achieved.
5) Strong advocacy and protest from the people of either Russia or Ukraine to stop the war. We can’t erase the possibility of it.

That must never be forgotten in the pursuit for peace. The “Villain” brought all these sufferings on the Ukrainians and Russian families. I think that if anyone should start a nuclear war it would be Putin and not Biden. If Russia is defeated in Crimea, Putin will have to face the music at home. He might be desperate enough to push the button. Putin is wily. The Belarusians are stupid to let Putin use their country to launch nuclear weapons. If Putin wants the war to end quickly, why does he not pull out his troops? Perhaps, he wants to end the war on his terms, i.e. to extract concessions from Ukraine to give up its territory. The withdrawal of troops doesn’t have to be under terms of surrender. Why do you assume that the US will send Marines into Moscow and have a direct confrontation with Russia? That fear is unfounded. Putin has more to worry about if Russian troops return home without a war “trophy” to show the people. The US set up over 30 bio labs and had permission to put missiles on the border, Russia said enough is enough. The rest, kool-aid. Now Ukraine is down to 175,000 soldiers and Russia has 600K waiting to move in. Joe will be wrong once again.

Reading the shit times for decades I don’t feel any wrongdoing of US/NATO starting wars everywhere on earth. I don’t know millions of innocent lives lost in the wars. I thought US/NATO act like international policemen liberalise the people of that nation or it is a war on terrorism. Agree. A ceasefire agreement brokered by a neutral party; but peace is most unlikely if Putin insists on holding on to Ukrainian territory. If the invading troops refuse to leave the country, the war will continue until one side is vanquished.

Countries are free to choose alliances for their own protection. Having lived under the former Soviet Union, these breakaway states want nothing to do with Russia. They see Russia as a threat than a friend, more so today after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. So Putin has driven Finland to join NATO.
