Long time to treat a public patient
I went to the Singapore National Eye Center at 1.30 for an appointment. I went as a public patient (aka subsidized patient).
I left at 4.45 pm. The appointment took over 3 hours.
During this time, I was seen by the doctor and the attendants for a total of less than 15 minutes. The rest of the time was spent waiting to be called.
I am aware that there is a heavy demand for the medical services from public patients. This demand is already dealt with by the long time to get an appointment (which took one month in my case).
The medical center probably allows sufficient slots for each day based on the available staff. In theory, there is no need for the patients to wait several hours for a process that takes 15 minutes. Maybe one hour would be sufficient, if the process was properly organized.
My friend said that the medical center made people wait a long time on purpose. This will force the well-to-do patients to register as private patients, to avoid the long waiting time. The doctor receives a share of the private fees, so they probably have an incentive to achieve this goal.
I could afford to be a private patient, but I chose to be a public patient to experience what the real world is like for ordinary people who are not well off.
My conclusion is that the long waiting time is unnecessary, and is a reflection of a poor process, or (as my friend said) a deliberate attempt to make life difficult for the public patients.
I prefer to refer to these patients as public patients, and not subsidized patients. I will explain my reason in a separate post.

“Singapore has further relaxed its restrictions on women freezing their eggs, raising the age cap for the procedure from 35 to 37, the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social and Family Development announced on Monday, with the new regulations set to take effect in July.
The move comes as Singapore’s birth rate has dropped to just 1.05 babies per woman, the lowest ever recorded for the city-state since it began keeping track over six decades ago. The replacement fertility rate – the number of babies needed to maintain a population at a constant level – is 2.1 births per woman. At the same time, the median age of first-time motherhood in Singapore has jumped from 30.3 in 2013 to 31 in 2020.”

@Spec Ops
Err… I think you missed the largest elephant in the room, that is due to the fake mRNA vaccines and C19 infection, the excess death for babies born dead or died after birth has reportedly also increased multi-fold.
So it can be said that the women are bonking bareback, but after 10 months of false hopes, some were born dead.
Therefore for those who are vaccinated and have contracted C19 multiple times, don’t be too happy if you are pregnant, deliver a healthy baby then start popping the champaigne.
Before the C19 mRNA vaccines, it can be said that delivery is practically guaranteed with the medical care that one can get in Sinkieland, but for those that are already vaccinated, NOTHING as far as health and medical are concerned, can be guaranteed.

Should ask VB how a SMART NATION is run. We have spent billions of dollars on technologies. No one should have to wait 3 hours for an appointment to see a doctor. You also have to wait 3 months for an appointment to see a dentist at the poly clinic. A&E units have also long waiting hours. In all this, the govt. still is talking about having babies. There seems to be something wrong with the brains of the PAP. Maybe too much monies removes the grey matter in one’s head.

The reason the body miscarries the baby is it knows there is something wrong with the child. This is Nature’s way of keeping the species healthy. But mRNA cannot be ‘cured’ in such a fashion. Now, the MOT,not minister of transport but the minister of tyrant have encourage all doctors and nurses to refuse medical services to all abusive patients. Of course, the term abuse is arbitrarily defined by these little tyrants in MOH.
Complainning too much, about doctors and nurses, critising hospital administration, doctors and nurses, getting angry, those in your face type of patient will be classified as aggressive trouble makers and abusers. The ccb Ong Ye Kang is getting all the support from the cb PAPs in Parliament to support MOH and him, so that all patients complaints will be stonewalled and not be entertained at all.
Most Singaporeans are law abiding and stickers of rules and regulations
Most of all Singaporeans are not stupid. The only stupid person is the Minister of Health lan jiao Ong Ye Kang. Doctors and Frontline health care,do not need any protection from OYK. They are also not stupid. This minister is trying to play hero to them. Doctors and nurses will continue to resign because OYK is not sincere in looking after the welfare of those in the public health care. If I am not wrong, the right to medical treatment is enshrined in the constitution and cannot be denied, even to inmates on death roll.
So this “I married a billionaire’s daughter” is suggesting that he has the power to order medical doctors to circumvent the constitution and exonerate them from any liabilities should the patient dies due to non-treatment?

Waiting for this little tyrant to legislate such a bill in parliament and make it into law. This lan jiao minister think it’s so easy because he is not a doctor by training. Just want to show his colour in Parliament. There will be a lot of changes before he dare to present it in Parliament for reading. It’s in at a preliminary stage, now. With his backing and encouragement, some unscrupulous doctors will be negligent, indifferent and do as little as possible for patients they don’t like. Or over prescript medications or drugs to inflate your hospital bills. Sent you for this test and that test. But still cannot determine the cause when the result comes back. There are a hundred and one way unscrupulous doctor can play the patient for fools and get away with their dirty tricks.

TKL left out one very important piece of information.
How many patients were waiting in queue before his turn? Did they have the same experience as him?
We would never know as he did not interview them during the over 3 hour period when he was there.
Rather, he would prefer getting some second hand information from his friend whose claim could not be verified.
Perhaps his friend could come forward to testify as a witness regarding the medical center who made people wait a long time on purpose?

It is very easy to table such a motion in the clubhouse. He needs only 1 Aye from the LEEder, the rest will fall in line. There is still the leader of the clubhouse to throw docs at the speaker, if the need arises. lol
BTW, did I mention that I had personally witnessed an entire village surrounding a city hospital because of a still birth/miscarriage? It happened a few years ago and from my understanding, a husband brought his pregnant wife to the hospital’s A&E because his wife was on the verge of a miscarriage. Apparently, the wife was bleeding but the hospital was short-staffed and there were no doctors to attend immediately to her, so they let her wait, attended to only by nurses. About 1/2 hour later, she suffered a miscarriage. I later learnt that the fetus was 8.5 months old and could have been saved.
Now note that most villages in China houses families with the same surname, so they are practically a huge family. What followed was that the hubby organised a protest (about 50+ pax) and surrounded the hospital and demanded answers. The police were of course called in but other than nicely asking the villagers to disperse (which they didn’t), the police maintained order but they did not arrest anyone because they were non-violent. The villagers were very civilise and they did not stop anyone from seeking medical treatment or prevent these patients from leaving, except doctors. Since most doctors drive, the car park was packed and blocked.
Eventually, the city’s deputy mayor addressed the villagers and promised a through investigation. Coincidentally, there were also a few lawyers at the hospital, and they volunteered to represent the hubby.
What happened later was that the hospital was sued for 1 million, but it was settled out of court at a 50% discount. Officially, the top honcho of the hospital (院长) was demoted along with the senior doctor (主任) in charge of the hospital’s A&E on that fateful day.
P/S: There can be plenty of deputy mayors (副市长) in a city, they act as head of various agencies, like Education, Health, Finance, etc etc etc. They are equivalent to minister of education, minister of health, etc etc etc.
Now we all know that such an incident will NEVER be played out in Sinkieland, so I am merely posting it for informational purpose only.

BTW, I asked my specialist during one of my routine checkup and she said that ANY medical degree from India DO NOT qualify the holder to be a doctor in China, even if it is a specialist degree, UNLESS the specialist diploma, degree is a post-graduate from “good schools”, i.e. Harvard, Cambridge, Stanford, etc etc etc.

Using the public scheme I had to get referral from an Indian doc at the polyclinic.

Both times, I have to pay first before they let me in to prepare for op.
Private scheme, there is a payout of $2500 from medisave, so balance pay card. If I recall correctly, it was around $3k plu, not counting the cash you pay the doc for consultation, eye check Etc.
Public scheme, operation fully paid through medisave. About $1k Plus. Consultation, eye check cash or card.
Prices are for years 2010, 2013.
