Residual Circuit Breakers

All homes in Singapore must have current residual circuit breakers installed from July- Today online, 12 May 2023.

I welcome the requirement for obvious reasons. Safety is alway first. Safety is never second or third.

In our public housing, there are many things that the authorities have done that are often taken for granted by the residents until the critical need for them arises and the installation of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is another good example. We never know but one day, the person’s life saved could be our parent’s, someone dear to us or even ourself.

CCTVs installed in strategic places and inside the lifts definitely help to deter crime and even help to solve crimes. This is one area that I applaud the pap government loudly.

Moreover, in order to further improve safety and livability for the majority of our flat dwellers, I would like to suggest that at least 2 portable fire extinguisher be installed in every HDB block for a start with the town council being responsible for their up-keep.

Residents can use them to kill small fire, if any, on their own before it becomes too big to control and such extinguishers need not be the big and heavy type that seniors and women may find it challenging to handle. Again, CCTVs can monitor any such theft or vandalism.

Think.

  • Funni lor, not sure if Simon got his facts correct bo. Circuit breakers are so common nowadays that even the poorest villages in China all have at least one in their incoming electrical supply lines, Sinkieland now then have, zoon bo?

Is Simon suggesting that now HDB electricty supply into each unit uses cable ties and PVC tapes? lol

Yes, the gov should also provide fresh food and power drink at the lobbies, in case someone is desperately thirsty or hungry, it can save lives, perhaps, yours or your love ones also.

    Simon got his facts wrong.

All HDB units had circuit breaker since long long time.

I know because as a volunteer sometime we are called upon to help home alone granny to fix their fan, radio etc

Simon better retract this article or be sued by all HDB dwellers.

    Yes, yes.

And with 95% vaccinated, should also add medical kiosks manned by doctors and nurses, like police NPP in the good old days, for those vaccinated who may suddenly “drop like flies”.

This is a clear and present danger that most Sinkies are/will be facing as time goes by.

It can save lives, considering that the time window for someone with heart problem is only a few minutes. No one around to revive means up the lorry very very soon for the victim.

Oh btw, are the NPPs still around or have they been replaced by cardboard policemen?

  • Harder Truths:

The Regime should set up an emergency coffin office in a block of flats. When someone drops dead (from ‘natural causes’) the Council workers can immediately rush to that unit and throw the offending body into the ready-made coffin and rush to crematorium and burn the body before autopsy to hide the truth.

Also and most important – charge the unit a ‘disposal’ fee for their (unwanted) services. Or else sell C.O.E. for coffin-related services. No pay, dump the body into the longkang. Teach these $tupid $inkies a lesson – nothing is free not even Death.

Tech: Ah nice, so very convenient and will allow the party to make more money. The CON should implement this soonest, he should be so proud of himself for causing the death and then making money from the dead. We call this 一条龙服务. Brilliant idea!

Many old houses installed Circuit breakers but not current residual circuit breaker.
Circuit breakers are for Overloading Protection (prevent fire) but Current Residual Circuit Breaker is for earth leakage fault to save human lives(electric shock).
    Please installed to save lives.

Ah, those that you manually pull up and down that do not offer any protection, I am surprised still existing. I believe these were used in old kampong houses and colonial bungalows.

Very not safe surely, die die must change, easy job, can DIY, no need to get SLA or contractor. Less than 10 bucks can liao unless you want to make a very complicated circuit box. lol

    Fxxk you ID10T simon.
    Who ultimately pays for it?

    How about suggesting this:
Requires every household to install smoke detectors.
Then requires every household to spend $300 year for fire inspections.
Fine $5000 for failed to conduct inspection.
Fine $1000 for not passing inspection.
Requires each household to install smoke alarms in every room, kitchen, and toilets.

AEDs? Who are ensuring that they are all working when need it? You think AEDs get their charge from the nitrogen in the air?
Who are actually paying for installation of those AEDs?
Who are really making $$$ for installing those AEDs?
Who are responsible for inspecting and who should be fined for not maintaining it?

Fire extinguishers? How about 1 every parking lot? Since we should be expecting more fires caused by EVs?
Increase council fees by 20x, each pays $1000 a month to town councils for maintaining, inspecting nd replacement of fire extinguishers?

Simon, simon, you in the fire equipment biz?

  • SGAI:

Battery failure has been one of the most common problems with AEDs. In addition to scheduled maintenance

If funds intended for AEDs are misused, this could potentially indicate corruption in the system. If AED funds are not transparent or if individuals closely affiliated with politicians receive the contract for the AED program and benefit from it, this could suggest that corruption may be taking place. Corruption may occur when individuals or groups use their power to gain personal benefits by making decisions that do not serve the public interest.

In some cases, funds intended for AEDs could be misused by using them to pay for unrelated projects or excessive fees for services not actually rendered. This could suggest that a corrupt actor may have redirected the funds in order to benefit themselves. Additionally, if individuals or companies affiliated with the government are awarded contracts for AED programs, even if they do not have the best proposal or are not qualified to carry out the program, this could suggest that corruption may be taking place.

In order to prevent corruption related to AED funds, transparency and accountability are essential. Governments and funding agencies need to have a clear understanding of the costs related to the AED program, including the purchasing, maintenance, and inspection of the devices. They also need to implement proper monitoring systems to ensure that the intended AED program is carried out. Moreover, funding should be allocated in a competitive process that is free from political influence, favoritism, or other forms of bias to ensure that the most qualified and capable provider is selected for the AED program. Finally, the public should have access to information about AED programs including the number of AEDs available and their locations, as well as information about how the funds were used.

In conclusion, while the funds for AED may be vulnerable to corruption if transparency and accountability are not maintained, are there measures in place to reduce the risk of corruption? These include clear understanding of the costs of the AED program, proper monitoring systems, competitive bidding processes, and public access to information. By implementing these measures, funds for AED programs can be used effectively and efficiently without compromising the public interest.

How much corruptions were undetected with secrecy of information guarded as national interest or national security?

For those flats which got burned down while re-charging the PMDs (Personal Mobility Devices), did those households had a Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) installed at the time of the fire incident?

  • @Light The Way

As long as the CB is not fake, even the cheapest ones you can buy in China for RMB 6 trip when there is a short-circuit, so the chances of a fire breakout is minimal.

There were instances of a fire breaking out in some super old flats because they had installed old manual type CB (push up and down) that doesn’t trip. However, most local authorities have changed all these to new ones. Each unit must now have at least one main new CB installed in its incoming line.

It is now also an offense to charge ANY PMDs in the flat. In fact, the security for the estate will not even allow any PMDs into a unit, except the designated parking areas.

  • Battery fire:

Sometimes the CB will not prevent the Battery fire caused by charging as the problem is caused by the battery failure itself and fault not detected by the CBs to trip…

    GD Star Rating

  • @Battery fire

Indeed that is so true. Once the battery is on fire, the CB can’t stop it. Most of the fires reported in China did not start from the circuit box, it started from the PMDs’ batteries. Investigations have shown that most of the chargers provided are cheaply made and comes with no adequate protection in case of over charging.

The PMDs are so simple in design and not all contain proper protection for the circuit. Those cheap ones are so crudely made, so much so that I can even DIY one that is safer and better. In fact, that is exactly what I did, I modified the RMB 1600 PMD that we bought, strengthen its internal wiring and added voltage stabilizer and CB to make it safer. I even modified the RMB10 charger to make it charge faster (5A, normal 3A), and safer, added cooler fan, thermal diode and fuse.
