Dr Tan Cheng Bock – A need for an independent president

Author: Many may wonder why I am here today, with my competitors from PE2011.

The answer is simple: today we share a common vision ….. to have an Independent President.
So I am here in my personal capacity as a PE2011 candidate because Singaporeans want transparency and accountability. Having another establishment endorsed candidate as president will not provide this.
Only a truly independent president can.
This presidential election is very important to me.
A president has two key roles. To review the use of our reserves and appoint key public appointment holders. So, this person must be independent from the government.
But I’m very sad.
I’m sad that the political landscape is in such turmoil. I’m sad that a highly qualified candidate like George Goh was not eligible. They raised the bar for private candidates by increasing the shareholders’ equity 5 times to $500M and certain management experience conditions.
However no equivalent conditions are required for public sector candidates.
And, it only resulted in all past Elected Presidents being endorsed by the establishment.
This is not a healthy trend for Singapore.
The government must give the people the choice to vote in a President who is independent.
Today, I Tan Cheng Bock want to plead with you to stand for what is right. Love your country by supporting the cause for an independent president. Your one vote counts make it worth it.

These guys are not stupid. They are old enough to know what the Regime is capable of. They will see out their terms in comfort and safety. They are not going into this as a sacrificial goat to try the solve the mess the $inkies put themselves into during every election.

TCB’s voice is one of power, honesty, dignity, integrity, honour and patriotism. Listen to his wise words and support him through TKL. He could not participate because of the $500m. The EP was deliberately stolen from him and us. TKL saved the State and Citizens. So let us all vote for TKL to remove the EP from the ruling party. If TS and NKS had the interest of the State and Citizens at heart, they will withdraw from the EP.

It is shocking to see even TCB is such a naive man. May be both TCB and TJS hope they would become presidential advisers since the change in law makes it impossible for them to participate in the Presidential Election. The 3 made a silly assumption, ie their votes would go to TKL when both TCB and TJS don’t contest. Stupid isn’t it?
All 3 candidates of this 2023 Presidential Election are not independent. Tharman, Ng Kok Song & Tan Kin Lian were one way or another related to the PAP or PAP Government. Independent cannot be claimed by either of the 3 candidates.
Tan Kin Lian should know that he would lose, again, the Presidential Election (may be he would not lose his deposit this time). The interesting questions are why is he contesting again? Who pays for his deposit and who finances his campaign?
Tech: Have you taken a look at TKL’s investment portfolio? He may not be as rich as Tharman or Ng, but I would guess his bungalow and shares is easily double-git millions. So what is 50k deposit?

Why must a PAP man always win?
Don’t underrate the wisdom of sg voters.
Why vote for a man who confirms himself that he does not want to be the guy who leads but merely support and let other score goals?
The EP IS A LEADING ROLE and ought to be so,at least regarding sgs’ reserves and top public appointments.
If the EP remains an ERECTED post,might as well just appoint,why go to the poll?
We cannot afford to have the EP to just officially function similar to erected presidents like before.
We cannot treat the EP like a gong kia anymore.
The reserves must be protected independently from any ruling govt.
Maybe in future,PAP becomes the Leading Oppo,who knows?

We,as a Nation,must RECONSIDER THE EXCLUSIVE CRITERION OF THE 500M.
IT IS IRRATIONAL AND UNFAIR,not just to potential candidates but to the PEOPLE,THE VOTERS.
It completely EXCLUDES GOOD SGS LIKE DR TCB,for example,from having a chance to SERVE THE PEOPLE and the PEOPLE from having good Elected Presidents.
We need to be more equal.

Voters, please learn from PM.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) issued a statement on Tuesday (May 23) where Mr Lee said that both ministers had spoken to him to ask for a review “that is independent of the ministries and agencies they supervise”.
An independent review, headed by Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean, will be carried out “expeditiously” to look into the rental transactions of the two Ridout Road state properties leased to Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam and Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said.
“Independent” cannot be by itself. If anyone is independent of everybody, he will be living a solitary life on a deserted island. Even Robinson Crusoe is dependent on Man Friday.
“Independent”, as shown by PM, is relative to something else. Minister Teo is INDEPENDENT of some other ministries.
An Independent President means he is independent of the ruling government.
Only TKL is independent of the ruling government.

The party must be worried, very worried for their probably have sent an IM to Tharman and Ng to start speaking up and belittle and smear TKL.
Now Ng, who was never a serious contender but merely a planted vote-splitter has ganged up with former President wannabe Mohamed Salleh Marican (he tried but did not qualify, so not even a contender) to accuse TKL of playing politics. Heard this Marican is the father of Rashid Khan, the supposedly planted mole that was kicked out of the Wayang Party, dunno true or not.
Unfortunately Lee Hsien Yang is too busy preparing his immigration plans to remain in UK, else if he bother to take a few minutes to pen a Facebook post to endorse TKL, it would be game over before 1st Sept.
But then I was told that Hsien Yang cares only for himself and if it doesn’t concern his own interest, he really cannot be bothered about daft peasants. Looking back, it appears to be so as I cannot recall an incident in any of his post that was never about “me, myself and I”.
So TKL will have to make do with TJS and TCB’s support, which may just be enough.

Tech: Ng is just a court jester planted to spoil votes, he will only end up splitting Tharman’s votes and ending up last. Very negligible even if you vote for him. If the party is serious about wanting Tharman to waltz into Istana, then their best bet is to withdraw the court jester now. My 2 cents.

Independence of the president is an important factor, but not the only factor. I would normally vote for the independent candidate, but in this case, the problem is that the “most independent” candidate TKL is really weak – senile, has made weird comments including on pretty girls and making nric information public domain, and is staunch supporter of China Communist Party and against democracy – imagine, he wants to become president through people’s votes but he is against the democratic system! and now he is not even independent as clearly he is now a mascot (or even puppet) of opposition parties.
The further complication in this elections is the “government candidate” Tharman is very strong (it is not a Tony Tan or Nathan – Halimah no need to talk lah). Well-respected and a really good guy. Remember Ong Teng Cheong was a similar candidate to Tharman, and proved to be a great president. Tharman could well follow suit.
If the opposition had put up a more mentally-stable candidate instead of TKL, still in this election, the challenge will be can we reject Tharman ? but still some case can be made. For e.g., if the opposition had supported NKS, I would still consider rejecting Tharman (but with a heavy heart). But not TKL for sure.
NKS is a solid candidate and I could have gone for him. But with opposition supporters grouping around TKL and PAP supporters around Tharman, NKS has practically no chance. So there is it – support Tharman, and I urge all to do so. The battle around policies are to be fought in the general elections, not in this presidential elections.
