Politicising the PE is highly hypocritical
The recent call to refrain from politicising the PE is highly hypocritical. The very act of Tharman resigning to run and previously Halimah from her post as Speaker is nothing but putting political interest front and centre for the PAP. In fact, almost all previous Presidents are politically chosen by the PAP. Of course they sell it otherwise.
The fact that TKL has a united backing from Dr Tan Cheng Bock and Tan Jee Say give Singaporeans a real choice as TKL is no longer alone but now has a credible team to back him should he be elected. In fact, if he enters the Istana, many more worthy people are ever ready, willing and can be coopted into his inner circle. Thus this gives a real chance for an independent alternative check on the government to be finally realised.
Lets not be distracted by secondary concerns that should be something that can be properly managed and improved upon. Personal flaws are real yet they can be worked on but the institutional and structural flaws we faced for years have damaged and surely are greater priorities in our calculation that must be addressed.
Remember the President is not just the person but the entire highest office of State. Much can be achieved and done if TKL becomes our elected President. He can galvanise a team that is reflective of real Singapore and not the chosen class only. Our voice and concerns will finally reached somewhere that counts.

A natural choice. Everybody also want.

Politicising the Election of the Office of President seems less of a “moral pervasion” than POLITICKING it?
Go ask AWARE and some of the UN-AWARES?
Surely, beyond being a unifying figure, the ELECTION process naturally makes the EP a political figure.
Or,maybe I am too simple minded?

Ask Thamman whether all those who canvass with him are PAP members and supporters or truly ordinary citizens? Is that politicking?

Ng Kok Song’s seemingly “gut response” to Dr Tan Cheng Bock et al’s backing Mr Tan Kin Lian, calling it out to be some moral perversity, nay corruption, shows himself up not to be as dependable as he claims as to fair and discriminating judging of situations and characters. Presuming alot; for just as he himself, like Tharman, can claim independence despite his close involvement with the political leadership and the very funds he is to safeguard as President, so also, can Dr Tan and Tan Jee Say, who clarify they are in, as Tharman and he claim, in their personal capacity. And should Kin Lian, if he wins, puts them into the Advisory Committee, that would only be as “corrupt” as Ng’s himself being robed in likewise by Tharman if he wins.

Shows a few things if you have been observing carefully.
#1 – PAP is feeling the heat because, not surprisingly, the opposition has thrown their weight behind the one they do not want to be president. No matter what botak says about resigning from his ex party no one is going to believe him that he is independent just like that oh hell no.
#2 – Fear of losing leads them to mount an assault on candidates’ backing. While Ng can say he was never a PAP member the same cannot be said about botak. Whether what Ng says is agreed by the majority will be known by this Friday after the votes have been counted.
#3 – I’m surprised that PAP hasn’t done this but goondu Loong could do the same trick and say he supports botak in his personal capacity. Nothing to lose since he can also say Dr Tan sama sama what. Or perhaps some other minister comes out and does it who knows.
The only one I can think of who hasn’t said anything is George Yeo. If he was to come out and support Tan then, well, it would be good to have a former minister on your side wouldn’t it? Especially one who was voted out and not willingly resign to take part in a presidential election.
It’s going to be a Good Friday for sure. Let’s see what the remaining few days will bring us. I hope for more surprises to spice things up!

Listen to the speeches on TV
Only TKL said he will speak up for the people. And immediately the TV presenter said the president cannot do such things.
Tharman and Ng spoke of the world being divisive. My take is that these two men are speaking as diplomats on the international stage.
The choice is kind of obvious.

Most things are politicized.

The TV presenter is brainwashed. There is no law, nothing in the Constitution or any other law, that forbids the President from speaking up for the people.

What really surprised me is the fact president “cannot speak up for the people”.
No wonder all the past presidents, whether elected or selected, we never see them often, usually seen only on TV during National Day or when foreign VVIPs visit…..

So many years of politicking by someone changing goalposts from 500mil rule to racial lines, and bloody village idiots like F Tan, E Tan and G Koh can keep quiet. Now TKL gets supported and they say it’s politicking in CNA. Once a bloody idiot, forever a bloody idiot.

Writer poorly educated. He himself don’t even know what he himself is talking about. 3 ‘dodo birds’ ganging up is simply call ‘no balls’ to stand alone. A spade is a spade.

Nah, she was not brainwashed, she was following order from the earpiece she was wearing hidden under her old fashioned hairdos. She must be feeling great
Btw, there are only 2 things going to happen:
1. The president role is what the behind the screen elites determined to be over the years based on their intuition.
2. The president role is what the people collectively want it to be, and changed over the years, if the people are determined.
Note:
1. There is NO LAW saying president cannot talk.
2. There is NO LAW saying president cannot openly disagree.
3. There is NO LAW saying president cannot say he/she rejected but things still happen the way it does because the government under the law, can force president to comply to government decisions.
4. There is NO LAW saying president MUST attend CEREMONIES!
If this year’s presidential post goes to TKL, the panic button of PAP will be pressed. They will be panic for the coming GE which is giving them too short time frame to fix. And thus will make decisions that will speed up their own ending.
If GE2025/2026, the result for PAP is no good, we might see an awakening to the true role of elected president, which, was taken a U-turn by LKY in the mid-90s.
I would love to see TKL continue his interesting character and temperament as president. It will bring lotsa headache to the regime. Can’t wait to see that happening.

EP should be a President that is a unify figure…
EP should never be a GE…a contest between Parties Candidates….a sad day for Singapore if the EP is not well respected by all.
Better to have a non partisan President…

The EP has always been MADE partisan since its birth, except for onebterm. Aren’t you aware ?

Forget what the gov say now.
Read the Constitution and the Parliament debate at the time the EP law was inserted into the Constitution.
The EP was and is meant to be a check on a rogue government. That means what? That means a rogue government is/will be very scared of the EP. A good government should have no worries.
Ask yourself? Who is very worried now?

You KNN. What respect you are talking about when change constitution suddenly on EP. And then An Indian become Malay?
You papies IB, welcome!

Politics is everywhere, can’t run away from it. So let’s get out of that debate. So the question now is who to support – govt candidate tharman, opposition candidate TKL or independent candidate NKS.
So, like general elections, it boils down to the candidate. Some opposition can win in general elections because they are able to convince the electorate, while others are not able to. In this elections, the opposition candidate TKL is very weak, almost appear mentally unstable, while the govt candidate Tharman is very strong. The independent candidate NKS is solid but unfortunately with the opposition throwing their entire support to TKL, NKL doesn’t have much chance.
TKL is really weak – senile, has made weird comments including on pretty girls and making nric information public domain, and is staunch supporter of China Communist Party and against democracy – imagine, he wants to become president through people’s votes but he is against the democratic system!
The further complication in this elections is the government candidate Tharman is very strong (it is not a Tony Tan or Nathan – Halimah no need to talk lah). Well-respected and a really good guy. Remember Ong Teng Cheong was a similar candidate to Tharman, and proved to be a great president. Tharman could well follow suit.
So there is it – support Tharman, and I urge all to do so. The battle around policies are to be fought in the general elections, not in this presidential elections.

from wha ti know 70% are really stupid… They thought 70% will vote for TKL so they can vote for Tharman . But they self pawned and resulted in freak election result. Same story in 2015

If Mr Tan Kin Lian is being elected as SG President, I forsee major conflicts with the ruling party cabinet millionistors. They probably cannot see eye to eye with Mr Tan being a President. And there is a possibility I think the non-establishment President would be fixed by none other than mee siam mai hum !!!
