Resignation of S. Iswaran

Subramaniam Iswaran

Subramaniam Iswaran

With the latest resignation of S. Iswaran from his ministerial post, Member of Parliament and member of the pap, our Parliament is further deprived of another member and this time, a heavyweight one.

So far in the current parliamentary term, we have already seen numerous disgraceful resignations ranging from the former pap Speaker of Parliament, Tan Chuan Jin to Cheng Li Hui, Raeesah Khan, Leon Perera and now, S. Iswaran. (not in particular order).

Of course the pap government had very predictably argued and defended that constituents interests have not suffered and that other MPs could cover their out of action (OOA) colleagues' duties lalala...

As a citizen, I couldn't help but wonder if constituents' interests and welfare have really not suffered despite their MPs being OOA or did we have a bloated Parliament to begin with and losing some MPs is just some small beer.

I ask if residents' interests and welfare do get affected one way or another, is the government going to continue with more of their other MPs could cover their OOA colleagues' duties rhetorics?

Our MPs are paid well and therefore, our constituents shouldn't be shortchanged even though many of them either do not understand or simply do not care about such issues.

I invite fellow netizens to share their thoughts about our increasing OOA MPs phenomenon.

Think.

* The former minister has also been slapped with 27 charges related to corruption.

  • You are FIRED.:

Anyone knows how many were fired by Trump POTUS?

    Chairman of Tennessee Valley Authority
James “Skip” Thompson May 2019 August 3, 2020 Fired after TVA announced that 200 American workers would be replaced with cheaper foreign workers. That decision was reversed on August 6.

    That’s MAGA.

Here, one MP proudly boasted that he replaced a few old Singaporeans with young foreigners. Yes. That’s Singapore.

  • You are FIRED.:

Not only were our cleaners paid a paltry sum, they could also be easily displaced by foreign workers. In 2010, MP Ong Ah Heng (Nee Soon Central) gave this account in parliament:

I know of one family who complain the cleaners in their precinct are lazy and too old. They don’t want local workers who are old, they want young foreign workers… To satisfy the demand, I changed the local workers to foreign workers. Foreign workers are not a burden to us… Without foreign workers, things will be worse. [10]

OAH: Old Singaporeans, you are FIRED.

Sad for Iswaran case..a lapse of judgment?

  • What loss?:

These ministers, one term earn $10 millions. One term already earn more than what 90% of Singaporeans earn over a life time. What loss?

Sad: Whatever the outcome…a big loss for him and family already .

  • rice:

Very simple to resolve OOA MP issue.
    Remove GRC.
ALL ELECTED MPs only via SMC.
So,if incumbent MP commits offence, candidate whp won next highest number of votes at prior election ill take over.
    No need to have re-election.
Save time and save taxpayer money.

  • SINGAROAR:

It is not only Parliament that is over bloated, the cabinet is also the same. I think LHL rewards PAP members at State costs by giving them appointments. A tiny, tiny island needs a parliamentary secretary, a State Minister plus a cabinet Minister for every Ministry? On top of it he appoints mayors and pays them $600,000/- a year. It is a scam and daylight robbery but 70% approve it so it is us, online that have the ability to understand the legal theft of our taxes by the ruling party. On the ground are the PAP supporters and they are the ones allowing the legal theft.

Let’s replaced these expensive million-dollar ministers with cheaper, better and more responsive (to the people) foreigners. I dare you!

Our great PAP government already had many online services that you can make use of.

So what interests and welfare you talking about?

Opposition has no solution except oppose for the sake of opposing.

No positive contribution at all. Totally useless.

  • Harder Truths:

This Indian-origin(al) was too greedy. Even being given millions by his party was not enough. Had to do a side hustle for a few hundred thousand which to someone like hm is peanuts. Bu I guess some crooks are more stupid than others.

  • Trust only myself:

That is why for a small country they want to have so many members in parliament……..allow for some to commit crimes, resign, sack, pass away also no need to have BE….

  • NotMyProblem:

Our parliament is certainly over bloated. It is proven with so many MPs vacated their places, constituents and parliament were not affected!

Or it could be this redundancy is intentional for this type of eventualities.

However how much extra money taxpayers have to pay for this. Especially the useless mayors!

Yes, resignation is more preferable to imprisonment if they allow it.

    Read that again.
