A leadership crisis has surfaced with the SimplyGo saga

Simply Unacceptable!

A leadership crisis has surfaced with the SimplyGo saga. Developed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), a statutory body operating under the Ministry of Transport in Singapore's government, the SimplyGo transition encountered a sudden shift in direction. The Minister of Transport recently announced a reversal in the implementation of the transit ticketing system. Initially slated for a phased replacement of the older ticketing system starting June 1st, Minister Chee Hong Tat publicly apologised on behalf of LTA, acknowledging the "judgement error" in pushing for full adoption of SimplyGo. Some observers, perhaps considering the forthcoming general election, are framing this pivot as a demonstration of the government's responsiveness to public feedback.

At many levels, several aspects of this episode are problematic.

Firstly, this is just a transit ticketing system. We are not pioneering interplanetary travel to Mars. Similar systems are already in place in various cities worldwide, including one just across the causeway. This is literally not rocket science. Moreover, we already possess functioning legacy systems - Ezlink, Nets, NetsFlash… A $40 million overrun on a project is not insignificant, particularly considering the existence of efficient transit ticketing systems already in operation.

Furthermore, why is the minister apologising for LTA? Shouldn't he hold LTA accountable instead? The principles of good governance include the separation of powers.

The expectation from leadership in policy-making is a process where listening comes before action. However, what we observe here is a pattern of acting hastily, followed by reactive listening, and ultimately, reversing course when faced with intense scrutiny or backlash, with the financial burden falling upon the national treasury. This is simply unacceptable!

Finally, it is crucial to have a level of transparency that goes beyond mere ministerial declarations on the subject. There are pressing issues and inquiries that the populace seeks answers to. For instance, who is responsible for the implementation of this system? How were the decisions made? Were there any decisions made in the grandstand of the F1 circuit?

Ha ha good joke on the bit where they say the government is suddenly more responsive in view of the next GE. Even if this is true then it means that PAP will be back to its bulldozing ways after the election lah?

All this little episode has shown is that government agencies have long been f-king it up and LTA suay suay 2 quick ones in a row following the reversal to not withdraw 167. Let us not forget that HDB screwed up with the AMK Sers not too long ago too yah? And the AGO publishing reports of various government agencies failing audits, remember those published over a few years hmm?

One little reversal for a ticketing system is nothing lah, this should be done even without having to wayang and say a government agency suddenly became more “responsive” to commuters. In the first place this is standard procedure to listen to the people who are affected what! It’s all due to PAP’s arrogance over the decades and yet another fine example of “WE KNOW BEST” being displayed, simple as that.

Lawrence saying he will be more consultative after he takes over ah? Same old nonsense as when Goh Chok Tong took over, say also the same shit but look at who he sued?

    Dear Tan Tee Say,
There are no leadership crisis in PAP.

On the contrary, PAP demonstrate good leadership showing accountability like what this mother did.

    https://shorturl.at/rwzA2

Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat, like this mother, took responsibility for her son (employees) mistake and then show her son (employees) how to correct the mistake.

This mother took responsibility, did not run away from the problem just like Chee Hong Tat.

We must vote PAP. PAP has leadership.

Opposition on the other hand is behaving like snake, always turn here and turn there like Pastor Kong/Pastor Sun and Venerable MingYi to avoid bearing responsibilities for their actions.

When SimplyGo first started, still remember their staff at the MRT station was quite convincing on the merit of the SimplyGO system over existing system…until the part cannot show the fare and the remaining value.
Told them it will be no go for many people, especially the Seniors and should feedback to their boss.
But they still proceed as it is….

It is the same with me on the Pop up Shoppee. Started when I was in Malaysia and continuing in Singapore.

Tech: I have contacted the network and they have agreed to blacklist Shopee on our website and turn off popups. However, since the contents on TRE is cached to your system locally, it would take a day to get rid of the annoyance as the refresh rate for local files is set to 24 hours. Sorry for that.

The 207 money-laundered property should also be put up for auction.
