The Delibitating Effect Of The Iron Rice Bowl

Bertha Henson bemoans the declining quality of the Straits Times.

But is there any incentive for a person or organisation to innovate and improve when it is handed an iron rice bowl by the government?

And isn’t this in effect what is happening when this PAP government has pledged $900 million of taxpayers’s money to keep ST and the other associated newspapers and media afloat?

I mince no words when I say the ST is amongst the worst newspapers I have read in my life. There is not a single redeeming feature I find in the newspaper. But I am not surprised because the only ambition of the ST seems to be to be the mouthpiece of the government and authorities.

A government that is always admonishing Singaporeans to be self-reliant, and is miserly when it comes to assisting Singaporeans in need, but which is willing to indulge in profligate spending,to prop up a failing newspaper which cannot even stand on its own two feet despite the monopolistic position it enjoys. That is the sickening reality of PAP’s Singapore.

So my advice to Bertha Henson is not to have any hope that the organisation she once belonged to, will improve and recover. A person or organisation on life support, which is how I see the local MSM, very rarely do.

First,PLS KEEP THE ordinary sgs afloat.
Dont $quander away sgs’ HARDEARNED RESERVES ON NON-DESERVING PRs/FTs especially the well-$alaried like giving $600 to deserving n needy sgs but granting generous furlough to non-sgs when taking out money from our sgs’ reserves

Why not just let PETIR takes over, it is printing the same thing? PAP’s PETIR can definitely support it by its members!

We save $900 million for the taxpayers! Why taxpayers still need to pay to read it! It should be free!

I have not read any thing from the local MSM for more than 40 years. It’s just printing whole lie, and half truth. Any one trying to tell the truth will be POFMAed.

I only interested in articles that were POFMAed, because that’s where you can find the truths. The truths that PAP does not want anyone to know!

  • opposition dude:

When your circulation numbers are declining year on year it tells you the whole story lah. Never mind the fact that it’s PAP’s mouthpiece but rather on the happy fact that fewer people want to read propaganda which is not reflective of what they see daily or even better, weasel worlding of articles to paint a nice picture which they have done so many times in the past.

The newspaper can’t come up with new tricks liao so just like its old tired master PAP will simply repeat what they have said eons before. I still remember laughable articles comparing our squeezy MRT cabins to those in HK and Japan ha ha ha. Imagine the stupidity of the reporter trying to make it seem like we have loads of space in our MRT cabins during peak hours when it isn’t so! Or their current favourite of informing us how inflation has come down by 2% COMPARED TO A YEAR AGO wa ha ha ha!

They know this isn’t sustainable which is why they have done an SMRT style private listing for SPH and sold off the property arm. Once private it doesn’t matter if you lose money since PAP needs a newspaper to tell its lies.

Agree. At least they can use it to reduce their tuition fees and we can read their perspectives. Present journalists in ST are dead wood. They bring shame to journalism but then they are nothing but free riders.

By way of writing some innocuous topics, that which seems to show she’s throwing stones from the other side, one can decipher Bertha is doing National Service lah.
