When will the General Election be held

Singaporeans are guessing when the PAP will hold the general election. Will it be this year or next?
The signs are rather contradictory. We are given $500 to spend at the supermarkets and small shops and stalls this year. But the sweetener is not sufficient to match the rise in GST, water and electricity charges and transport fare hikes. The steep rise in COE has also made those who need to drive very unhappy.
Yet, the government is determined to make people happy this Chinese New Year. So we have the lighted dragon in Chinatown and the Art Week in full swing. Art exhibitions and displays are everywhere. Even the city, usually dead in the night has come to life with LIGHT TO NIGHT.
Unfortunately for the PAP, there are some unhappy revelations. Singaporeans still remember the luxurious and grand accommodation of two PAP ministers at Ridout Road. Till today, the scandals don't seem to go away. People joke and pass uncomplimentary remarks even though the two ministers have been cleared by the Prime Minister's department, the CPIB. And before the scandals are completely dead, another scandal hit the PAP - Businessman Ong Beng Seng and Minister S Iswaran made the headlines. They are being investigated for corruption. Iswaran himself has been charged for 27 counts of corruption.
While we all look forward to the announcement of the general election, we have no say as to the date. So let us enjoy the feeling of excitement of past general election expressed by the late Mr Patrick Low. Those of us who voted in the general election held on 2 January 1997 will recollect this scene easily. Then too, the deep sadness when the PAP resorted to intimidation and defamation suits following the loss of two single seat constituencies and the impressive win by the Workers' Party in the Cheng San GRC led by JB Jeyaretnam, Tang Liang Hong and three others. Reason ? Lost touch with the suffering of the common people.
The high cost of living is affecting the bottom 40% badly and the policy and measures taken is too little and too late for many of the poorer sector of society…especially the Seniors and the jobless.
Also more will lost their jobs as the people are not trained with new critical skills needed for the new AI economy.
and the world is getting more competitive.Yet we are spending skillFuture funds on useless courses!!
If no strong measures taken to address the people woes,expect to lose more critical Ministers…

Doesn’t matter if the election is this year, next year or 2026 since the ground won’t be sweet but extremely bitter for PAP thanks to their own handiwork of making life harder than ever for Singaporeans year on year. The usual wayang report of median income now being 10k sure is laughable. Do you and your spouse earn 10k combined or would it be closer to 6k?
PAP knows they do not have that much support compared to previously so it would not surprise me if they couldn’t even maintain their 60% share from 2020. I expect Lawrence to say that they expected to do so when their vote share drops to the 50% mark, won’t be too difficult seeing as they are the cause of all our issues.
As long as the PAP are in charge we can expect yearly transport fare hikes in addition to having more than 5.9 million people on the island. So how about it kiasees? I see your group is getting smaller as time goes by. When will it be the election that you guys become the minority and your favourite party is either forced into a coalition or becomes the opposition? Neither of which they want to be in, naturally.

If you look at the result of the PE, it really does not matter if it is the year of the lizard or the mosquitoes.
It has been suggested that the result of the PE is as such is because the older generation (LKY’s eras) know only the lightning and most in the old-folks homes ticked the lightning, the only symbol they know.
It has also been opined that unless these oldies and goodies from that generation all meet their maker, there is no way the lightning party will ever be removed from power or can we expect to see a significant change in the composition of parliament.
Imagine if you were born a slave and have been used and abused for decades by masters, would you be able to survive in the real world if you were one day set free, exampled one of the readers who recently met me in Wuhan while on a short holiday.
Somehow, I am tempted to agree with her, what do you think?

For PE it doesn’t matter which year as the result shows the persona of candidate counts. The choice of symbol helps to reach majority of uneducated voters who like the pineapple associated with good fortune! The win was convincing!
If TKL used the durian symbol which the majority of voters can identify by simply explain the fruit for the people to enjoy & the thorn will be poking vs the malpractices of the ruling govt! That may result in a good fight for votes!
If GE is called early this year the many pappy scandals may swing more votes to the opposition parties!

Go and ask the usual suspects. Eugene Tan and Gillian Koh. These two pundits are experts in electoral politics. They will tell you not before this date and that date, and why. Hee hee haw haw but will refuse to pinpoint the exact date of the GE. To be fair no one knows. Not even the PM at the moment.
One noteworthy thing everybody knows, the PM will no longer have any more excuse to step down as PM and handover to his DPM by this year end. This does not mean the PM will retire from active politics.
There is not much manoeuvering room for the PM to play mind games with the public and the opposition parties this time.
The five years election cycle ends in 2025. The question here is whether the PM wants to hold the GE before stepping down as PM or after. The time frame is short before or after he steps down as PM. If not by this year is the next year in 2025
