Irritating Ads on TR Emeritus
Please be informed that following our readers' feedback, we have managed to identify and remove most of the irritating ads that were run on our website without our permission, in particular:
1. ALL full-page ads, in particular very intrusive interstitials and Google's Vignette.
2. Ads that use forced redirects.
3. Floating videos and banners.
Of particular concern is the fake Adobe Software update full-page ads that forcibly redirect readers to Shopee, which we have asked the advertisers to ban from our website. Please follow up in this thread if it reappears again.
We have a policy of ensuring that our website uses only Native Banners (that stay at a specific allocated place) to ensure a smooth reading experience for our readers and not allow our website to be decorated like a Christmas tree.
We continue to welcome feedback from readers on any further inappropriate ads that may appear on our website, in particular any of the abovementioned ad types.
Thank you for your continued support.

The shopee floating ads is stillt there!

@inowatosay
Can you please be more specific as to how the Shopee ads is “floating”?
What I know is that it is being forced redirected after an Adobe Software popup, is that still the case?

“adobe ads” still popped out on every page access.

@sammy
Is this Adobe ad redirecting to any other URL and is it closable with the (X)?

I took a gamble an clicked “ok” on 1 ad. It said something about 1 message and attention needed. (The x at the top right probably works.)
It led to a mcafee subscription renewal with a non-macfee url.

Definitely a scam. It’s no good for TRE to have scam ads.

@Scams
This is indeed very helpful.
What you saw is actually a software ad, not a scam, per se. It is however very misleading and I will have that disabled.
I am more concerned with the forced redirects that some readers have experienced, did you experience the same without clicking on any ads?
Appreciate your feedback.

As of 21st Feb, I have filtered out the ads that may have been causing the irritating pops, especially Adobe and Shopee.
Please update in this thread if you continue to experience them.
Thank you for your feedback.

It is also showing storage space clearance.
Tech: These are software ads, acceptable since TRE needs advertising revenues to maintain. As long as there are no full-page and forced redirects, just ignore and close it. Even MSM uses full-page popup ads, and we are trying to not use them although it pays handsomely.

If I use laptop, the ‘Adobe ad’ came out, asking to download.
If I use handphone, ‘shopee ad’ came out, and sometimes ‘storage space running low’ came out too.
Shopee is redirecting to somewhere when close X.

@Relax
As you know, TRE depends on advertisements to survive, and like all other socio-media websites all over the world, the CPM/CPC for Google’s Adsense has dropped significantly, forcing many websites to try out other alternatives.
With new advertisers, come new formats, and native ads no longer pay as well. So at times, we need to try something new and rectify as we go along.
What you see are actually “software ads”, which are sometimes misleading and very irritating. We have asked the advertisers to ban these ads and once the cache is cleared after 24 hours, it should not appear again.
So sorry about that.

Finally able to access without the scam Adobe add. Who is the culprit trying to block access to TRE?

@dave
We have asked the advertisers to disable ALL full-page ads, especially from Adobe and Shopee.
Glad that we are back to normal.
Please continue to feedback if the ads are back.
Thank you.

Is the system dropping comments or someone actively censuring?
