UNSC passes resolution demanding immediate truce in Gaza during Ramadan

Author: The UNSC has passed a resolution calling for an immediate truce in Gaza for the remainder of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan - and for the release of hostages. The resolution drafted jointly by China and Russia has the backing of the bloc of Arab nations 22.
It passed 14-0 after the US abstained, thus not using its veto. Washington has previously vetoed three ceasefire resolutions. The Security Council has been divided over the Israel-Hamas war since Hamas's October 7 terror attacks.
Despite the passing of the resolution, Netanyahu has gone on record that Israel will invade Rafah, regardless what the international community thinks. Since the UNSC has no military under its belt, the resolution is technically useless unless it is passed to the UNGA for follow-up action.
Political experts have opined that the UNGA can uphold the UNSC's resolution under the "Uniting for Peace" formula, authorizing sanctions or military intervention, and that decision cannot be vetoed.
However, since the month of Ramadan is relatively short, even if the UNGA intervenes, the resolution in UNSC would have lapsed, when and if any action is taken.

The US has claimed that this resolution is nt binding, suggesting that the US is going to continue to allow Israel to do whatever it wants and to ignore the UNSC.
Which begs the question. If the UNSC resolution is not binding, then why did the US choose to piss off the international community to veto the initial 3 resolutions when it can just allow the resolutions to pass and then tell Israel to ignore them, right?
