Before 2010, GIC had disclosed annual returns in Singapore dollar. (GIC reports, see pg 10). There was no reason to change the reporting currency because all returns would eventually have to be converted to S$. And Singaporeans have the right to know GIC’s actual performance. The one thing, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his government can be counted on to do year after year is to remind Singaporeans that they are so fortunate to be better off than the generation of 50 years ago.
