10月17日，早报刊登了一篇新闻，标题显耀刺眼，就是《提供大量津贴助国人拥屋 建屋局净赤字飙升达近八亿》。 新加坡人的尴尬，也是新加坡人最大的心痛，就是政府津贴得愈多、愈大的项目，得到的不是减轻负担，较为轻松的感觉，而是陷入百上加斤，更为艰难、困顿的处境。 在医药费上的津贴来说是如此、在组屋售价的津贴上来说也是如此。有谁能够想象呢？当一个国家政府对人民医药费津贴达至70、80%时，人民竟然还把到医院治病当成畏途；当建屋局为新加坡人提供住屋，推出大量津贴组屋，每年的赤字都以数亿计来帮助新加坡人圆梦时，得到的却不是新加坡人的鲜花，而是魔鬼式的诅咒...
