"Up yours" In a sudden move, MDA stunned the world of social media and the whole wide world with a pawn’s gambit, by requiring social media website reporting on Singapore to be licensed, to put up a $50k bond and risk a $200k penalty if the news site violated its regulations. There was such a huge outcry when the Media Development Authority (MDA) announced the licensing regulations for news websites that you would think they are shutting down the Internet entirely. But everyone is justifiably worried. The new rules are not only broad-based, they are also vague, arbitrary and potentially limitless....

Leong Sze Hian I refer to Raymond Ng’s letter “Reveal the actual cost of public housing” (Today, May 25). Formula for HDB subsidies? Mr Ng asked “how the Housing and Development Board (HDB) derives its formula for “subsidies” for each housing type and the profit margins”. Well, I thought that a good starting point...
