Why is the task force led by politicians and not epidemiologist or even doctors?

The question uppermost in my mind is why is the task force led by politicians and not epidemiologist or even doctors? If the priority is to save lives, then people in the medical field are best qualified to lead. Yes, there are logistical and political considerations, like not enough mask, but that should be a secondary consideration....
