With a new year, the talk amongst political pundits inevitably swirls around a general election. The last 2 took place after 5 years, so it would appear that 2016 is still the favourite, but there have been elections in 4 year cycles before and hence a lot of interest with this year. Then there's the unknown factor in leaving... 

The Singapore Cabinet comprises the PM, 2 DPMs and 15 ministers. 5 of them, or slightly more than a quarter, had been generals/equivalent in the military before becoming politicians.
