Why is Singapore’s public healthcare spending as a percentage of GDP so low?

I refer to the article “May to unveil £20bn a year boost to NHS spending” (The Guardian, Jun 16).

It states that “Taxpayers are to be asked to help fund a £20bn a year injection of extra cash into the National Health Service by 2023-24 that will pay for thousands more doctors and nurses, while cutting cancer deaths and improving mental health services, Theresa May will say today.”

In this connection, it was reported in the Singapore media last year that Singapore’s public healthcare spending as a percentage of GDP was 1.6 per cent – and the United Kingdom’s was 9.8 per cent – does it mean that the UK’s is about six times that of Singapore’s?

Also, does it mean that from a cashflow perspective – we may not be spending any money on healthcare, as the inflows exceed the outflows every year?

this is how every ffffing pap Lj and pap Cb talk.

when citizens pay, it is AFFORDABLE.

when government pays, it is UNSUSTAINABLE.

for a public good such as healthcare, why have government if all government does is to treat every ffffing thing as a business with a profit motive?

like to do business so much why be government? why not quit government and just do business? aha. the catch is every ffffing pap Lj and pap Cb not business calibre. only throw dollars reaping cents. that is why CPF kosong and gic temasick not making returns so must up GST.

in the end, ffff the 70% stupidest sheep.

  • You Die Your Own Business:

UK spends about US$4100 of GDP money (Y2018) on healthcare for every citizen.
SG spends about US$980 of GDP money (Y2018) on healthcare for every citizen.
So every UK citizen receives more than 4 times of healthcare funding than that of SG citizen, not PPP adjusted, if adjusted, the gap is even wider.

Moreover, since Singapore’s per capita GDP has inflated substantially compared with the past without corresponding increase in healthcare spending, the amount spent on healthcare could have declined.

The Swiss already spent about $8000 in 2016, so SG is still far from reaching the “Swiss Std”, as once promised by one Woody clown, now elevated to an expensive free luncher invisible mentor.

Y2016 data for advanced nations are here.
