Deeply disappointing when disconnected politicans behave like sleazy snake oil salesman

Deep in my heart, I know that our country is heading for mediocrity. Citizens are getting lesser opportunities under the incompetent PAP’s rule, and yet we are even seeing politicians unashamedly behaving like sleazy snake oil salesmen.

In a recent meeting with residents, Sembawang GRC MPs Khaw Boon Wan, Ong Ye Kung and Vikram Nair told residents that “increases in cost of living are good things” and that they and that they are “problems of success”.

It is easy for them to say such things but let us remember that PAP ministers and MPs earn lucrative allowances that we can only dream about. Ironically, low-income Singaporean workers do not have minimum wages, unlike low income workers in Australia, Japan or even Hong Kong. In fact, last year and this year, Japan hiked its minimum wages by 3%.

To make matters worse, Singapore has been ranked year after year the most expensive city in the World to live in. Many of our workers are left to struggle, swim or sink on their own. Already this year, we have seen a 16.8% electricity hike, 30% water price hike while a 9% GST is soon on the way.

Yet, Khaw still has the check to tell his constituents that higher cost paid to vendors and service providers go towards paying higher wages. Is this so? Higher living costs certainly add to the burden of our citizens, but it does not automatically translate into higher wages.

In fact, the reality is far from this.

Too many of our workers have not seen pay increase for one year, two years or even three or more years already. Even more of our workers have in fact seen their wages depressed because of the liberal importation of hungrier and cheaper foreign workers, compliment of the PAP government’s policies.

Every so often when I see elderly citizens with their heads full of white hair and bended spines leaving their flats very early in order not to miss the very early buses for work, I couldn’t help but sigh in resignation.

Only unthinking citizens will buy Khaw’s cock and bull stories. Unfortunately, we have plenty of such people around. I strongly urge all aware and informed Singaporeans to enlighten as many as possible their lesser informed friends and colleagues for our collective interest and survival sake.

The writer got his facts wrong. In some survey, Singapore is most expensive city in some years, not every year. And these surveys geared towards expats. If you take out cars and condos (which expats demand), Singapore is actually very affordable. We can still have chicken rice for $2 in some coffee shop. Which other developed country you can eat out so cheaply? As for utilities and water bill, in Australia and USA, for most homes their average utilities is $400-500 per month. Ours is much lower.

As for wages, yes there are some industries don’t have wage increases as those industroes not doing well. But the majority are getting wage increases, usually 3%-4%. This is higher than our inflation rate. So our workers are better off than 5 years ago, and definitely better than most developed countries.

The whole bunch of PAP people is typical of AH Q behaviour. How to identify an Ah Q?

One day, Ah Q fell down. His friends laughed at him. He scolded them and told them he did not fall instead he bent down to pick up sands. This is Ah Q.

To pay higher costs of goods and services is primarily good, or to be precise, very very good for one sector, collecting more and more billions and billions $$$ for government and civil servants with their pay ever increasing year after year, some times, during bad times, a few percent and some times a lot a lot increase during astonishing times

you eat chicken rice every meal even if in your dream it is just $2 ?

Which year was SG not most expensive city?

Oz and US got 4 seasons, of course total utility bill higher but they are also get paid much much more. The $400-$500 is just a small% of even their minimum wage.

    “Our Workers are better off”?

“Our” refer to whom? “Residents” or Singaporean?

“Our workers are better off” Really? Then why has the number of Singaporeans PMETS driving cabs/GRAB increased? Do the other developed countries also have massive reserves, perennial budget surpluses and high (obscene) wages paid to politicians without real accountability? Considering these why are the lives of Singaporeans not much better?

Wages have been stagnant over the last decade while prices have increased sharply. HDB prices doubled over this period. Why? Who is responsible and accountable?

Homes in Australia and in USA would have higher utility bills because they need home heating during the winter season. Food sold in supermarkets in

Australia and in USA have greater variety, better quality and often lower price than Singapore. Goods sold in department stores are also higher in Singapore.
